I hope Jesse and Morris finaly understood that The Time was the perfect storm. Im kind of embarrassed that I didn't get what was meant in that part of the interview till now lol. It all makes sense now why it fell apart. But did they each think they'd have the success individually as they did as The Time? "Climb in my fur."

Johnson: Yeah, “Screwdriver.” He has a big-assed orchestra now; he’s got bands with guys, he’s got all-girl bands. He was just here; he just played a few days here. But that’s how he is. Prince has not treated our version of the band with any respect since ’06, since he did the Super Bowl. He’s had a hair up his ass about these other bands who have been around him for over 30 years, I might add. And I just don’t understand why. On the other hand, my other people—I was in the Original 7ven with Terry and Jimmy and Jessie Johnson—and they always do this. Anytime a crisis comes, they run off, because they’re rich. They run off, and you don’t hear from them no more. And Jessie Johnson bailed on another project too. So you know I’m just tired of babysitting and bowing down to cats that I grew up with. Because I got talent too. So..
Johnson: Well you know, here’s the thing: that’s the myth everyone thinks. I’m so well-to-do because I grew up around them and have been in bands with rich guys,” but it didn’t translate it out to me because there’s been a lot of selfish bullshit that went on in my career over the years. So that’s where we’re at today. I hate my rich friends: I’m not going to lie, they get on my damn nerves. But at the same time, I’m attached to them for the rest of my life. It’s like HIV: they’re going to always be attached to me, so I just accept it and move on. It’s kind of a bitter pill sometimes that I’m struggling like this and I probably shouldn’t be. But I am, so I have to get through it the best I can.
Jellybean Johnson: The Original 7ven, I doubt if you’ll ever see it again. I hate to sit here and admit that: I doubt if you’ll ever see it again in light of Terry and Jimmy’s bullshit and Jesse’s bullshit.
Johnson: The only original members in Morris Day and the Time are me, Morris and Monte. Jerome left in like ’05 or ’06 or something like that and got with his brother. You know, Terry Lewis is his brother. And he decided he didn’t want to be in it anymore so he was back in the Original 7ven. But now him and Morris fell out in the Morris Day and the Time version because of money. He wanted more money and he was making more money than any of us except Morris and that wasn’t enough for him. So Morris got him a guy he could pay $300 a show and was happy with it. So that’s been the case for the last five or six years.

THE REASON I LEFT THE TIME/O7

I think Morris Day did, I think the other guys did, that is why I think they were will to ride out the lack of pay and ill treatment. I mean Morris and Prince ended up fist fighting at one point. But if Prince didn't fire JJ & Terry, there would not have been that 1984 drama. Which I still don't understand why Prince would attempt to mess with the 'perfect storm' on the cusp on the Purple Rain momentum. I still don't understand that move by Prince. And it had a chain reaction. It definitely was a mind fuck by Prince, because didn't he tell Jellybean to tell Jimmy that he could come back but that Terry could not? That had to be some tenstion for Jerome and Terry for a bit too. . I'm trying to get the piece together but from memory, Prince had Jesse in his back pocket while being in the Time. Like Jesse would tell Prince things the Time members had secret. . I think Prince had Jesse souped up, especially for the period he lived with him. Maybe Jesse got the idea that he was bigger than the guys. Being a part of that purple camp is what made it so huge and addictive. For Prince as well. That foundation of 1980-1987 specifically, if Prince didn't have that I wonder what his career would look like. Jesse was making 'bigger' moves than Morris Day I believe, but Jesse as well stayed a bit stuck in a place that only could have happened in the 80s. Even Prince struggle musically after the 80s and the changing music scene.
On 8th June 1984, THE TIME, led by [Jesse Johnson], performed Jungle love live on the 3rd annual Minnesota Black Music Awards at the Prom Center in St. Paul. [Morris Day] wasn't present at this event and his conspicuous absence sparked rumors, that THE TIME had broken up.
^^^^^^^^I don't believe Prince was ever going to replace Morris with St Paul. I believe the Family was always the next move

Morris was irreplaceable. No other frontman would have worked following Morris. He was the David Lee Roth of rnb bands at the time. "Climb in my fur."

Prince was so fucked up with power and control in his life due to his mom and pops emotional abuse that anything less than ultimate loyalty to the kin..the Prince, is off with their heads response. He no doubt didnt want Terry back because Terry was 'mouthy' with it and was not intimidated by Prince from what Ive read in the past. Just like Alexander Oneal. Prince couldnt del with some folks who were ..ahem..live with it per se' "Climb in my fur."

Jimmy Jam's story of how/why Prince fired Alexander O'neal (during his interview with Questlove) from The Time is f**cking hilarious. I love that story

I remember seeing Jesse perform an intimate show in 2014, in the beautiful beach city Santa Monica,Ca, at a small club called Harvelle. He had the audience in the palm of his hand.
"That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when was doing the Purple Rain tour had a lot of people who knew 'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."

Actually this was all started when he opened his mouth in his 50's, not when he was in his 20's - 30's. Looks like he didn't learn very much.

This album face solidified Morris Day forever as the face of the Time
For some reason Prince underestimated the bond these guys had and their belief in his vision of them as a united. Prince removes Jimmy and Terry were were very integral to the shows, Jellybean leaves(and returns) Monte leaves when he realizes Morris is leaving etc chain reaction.
I noticed something in the movie. Al Magnolia always centered Morris Jesse Jellybean & Jerome in shots in Purple Rain, and the others were like on the 'outskirts'

can you imagine what would have happened if,in retaliation for Jimmy and Terry being fired,Morris had left the band in 1983? That would have been a disaster for Prince. As someone pointed out,Morris is irreplaceable. No one else could have pulled off that persona. The movie would not have been the same without Morris.

I remember reading that the band didnt feel the same when Jam n Lewis were gone. Understandable. "Climb in my fur."

Yes, the newer members of The Time (Paul Peterson and who was the other guy??) were hardly seen in the PR film. Magnoli was clearly trying to focus on the original members.
