Me too!
Are you thinking of the "band version" of the song? I thought that one was later.
I can't tell where the "1" is, then Prince starts clapping to bring it in. Fucking genius/leader. That one? . [Edited 1/12/19 6:17am] What? |

I’m referring to what’s labeled as a “demo”, though there seems to be disagreeement about whether or not the album version came first. It’s discussed a bit here:

It is possible that by the middle of this year there will be a reissue for this year of 1999 with totally unknown songs for hardcore fans!

Nah man, I had it on an ancient vinyl bootleg (Moonbeam Levels it was called I think) from 1990/1991.

I suspsected something, as in the UK 1999 disappeared from streaming service Deezer, while it is a regular WB album, and not in dispute any where.

Correction: the vinyl bootleg was called A Better Place to Die and had a couple of live tracks and some 1999 outtakes on it.

Crazy, I'd never heard of it before Studio Nights. The version you're talking about probably was of a much inferior sound quality, though. |

This? I didn't have it but remember seeing it often back then. It doesn't fit your description, though (no live tracks and a mix of Family/1999 stuff).

This wasn't it, the cover on mine was a Purple Rain concert shot.
Teh sound was muffled on the old vinyl release, the one on Studio Nights was clear and a huge upgrade.

There was another thread (http://prince.org/msg/7/452178) on this where a Prince version of Jerk Out was mentioned that seems to be amazing so I hope that one is on it. it is rumored that there will be unheard/uncircualting unreleased tracks (probably unheard for us low level, bootleg collecting fans and only heard by the select few who talked about that Jerk Out Prince version) so that would be great. But all the previously bootlegged 1999 outtakes/session tracks must be on there too. But I have a feeling it will be a half assed release like Purple Rain Deluxe missing a lot of essentials like longer versions/alternate edits of teh album tracks like Delerious and DMSR, but it's better than nothing I gues. Well if true then naturally this will be awesome!
However, it bugs me that everything is always soooooooooo slow.
Why oh why does it take a company forever to release an album!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time is ticking and we are all getting older.
I don't want to have to go into a cryogenic freezer to be resurrected when I'm 150 to get a deluxe issue of Batman, Lovesexy, Gold Experience, New Power Soul or any other album for that matter.
The danger is also that audiences move onto other things if not fed once in a while.

well, to be honest, i get antsy about it, too. but then i remember that they've only moved the vault over to iron mountain and been documenting it for a year and a half now, so it's only reasonable for the whole process to take some time, including decent remasters from the original tapes for all the classic albums.
so PR Deluxe being a knee jerk release, filled with whatever they had in the WB vaults and then the fairly straight forward and 'easy' release of Piano 83 could both be seen as just releasing something quickly just to get product out there.
but whatever happens from this year, moving forward will be the real way to gauge what the future will hold for us as fans.
now that the tapes have been digitized and the vault is catalogued up to at least a certain point, will the 80s albums all be remastered with additional content and on what time scale etc.
if 2019 doesn't bring anything worthwhile than the future looks bleak indeed. but i'm not really that surprised that we haven't got any real gravy just yet since there was so much to deal with in really all aspects of the process from physical tapes to legal issues etc.
but now seems to be just about the right time for warners to start moving forward at a pace.
it'd just be nice if people were actually talking and giving us some information. there's constant info on whatever new projects might come from docu's to new merch to band tours to broadway plays n movies, but the only thing everyone remains silent on is actual music, the one thing that prince was always about. and the one thing that everyone wants.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps |

I know this won't happen, BUT
Shouldn't the Time and Vanity 6 albums be included in the reissues? They are all Prince songs.

There should be proper, separate archive reissues for those albums with P's guide vocals and other outtakes. The problem is WB still own the masters for those Time and 6's records, while the Estate owns the unreleased stuff, and God knows where Prince's guide vocal versions fit in this since the instrumental tracks are the same as the WB owned versions, so that's some legal entanglements to solve and some profits to share and, while I'm sure it can and will be done on the long run, I don't think it's the Estate or WB'a priority right now. |
