Jay-Z is a tool. I hope the estate has nothing to do with Tidal in the future. Who even knows how long Tidal will be around. Spotify and Apple Music aren’t going anywhere.

falloff

seriously though. i hope the family get it together now. they were all just thrown in the deep end
and it's understandable that they made mistakes and listened to the wrong people. seasoned and
well represented stars make mistakes and let crooks handle their bussines at time. so why should
a family who is faced with this huge task, whilst mourning the loss of a brother, and faced with an
immediate 'deadline' regarding a huge tax bill etc, be able to sit down and make the right and best
choices at the drop of a hat, just like that?

they fucked up, they stumbled, now they know. so it's only from here on out that we can somewhat
fairly judge if they want to do the right thing or if they are content to screw things up, continue the
internal bickering and opposing and are happy to let everything remain up in the air or if they will
sit down with some good advisors and make the right kind of deals to move forward. let's wait and
see.

however, if londell remains advisor to those older sibs, it's going to be hard for all parties disbelief

meanwhile, they could have just listened to what jay z/tidal had to say and worked out something
with them. like give them that last album and the live album. it would make some money and the
fans (duh) would get to hear the music (yeah, i'm being selfish lol ).

and if jay z offered 40 mil, why did they sell the rights to umg for 31 mil? hmmm so many questions.

it'll be an interesting year ahead of us. i just hope there's a resolution and some music and a bit of
dignity for all involved at the end of it.

but not for koppelmann and londell no no no! lol

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Even though I'm not a fool enough to throw away money like that, do I dislike something owned by Jay-Z more than other services? Damn right I do. He is shit hop trash and I wouldn't give one cent of my money to support shit like that. Is it racial? Hell no. My love is funk and I was listening to it as far back as 1979 right after disco's supposed "death" in the days when I was one of the very few white people listening to it and caught the backlash from all the white people that hated it. But was funk replaced with a better form of R&B when it ran it's coarse and something else took over? No, it was replaced with shit hop, which is a bunch of absolute nothing, and shit hop hasn't been replaced with anything since. Styles always changed every ten years but not with shit hop, the 2000s arrived, still shit hop. The 2010s are almost over, still shit hop. So this is what the dominating form of R&B is apparently going to be from now on. Well, not one cent of my money will contribute to it.

Just because you don't like Jay-Z's music or hip hop in general, why would that stop you from going to the Tidal STORE and BUYING post WB music/albums that are not available anywhere else?

I don't have Spotify but does anyone know if the post WB releases are there?

Peace~DD55

Oh, I didn't buy "Fart Official Age" or "Shit N Run" from there or anywhere else for that matter. Not because of where they were sold, but because he sold out the way his music sounded so I just strictly didn't buy them at all. I don't give Prince a pass either. My days of buying something strictly because Prince made were over by then. To buy something and then bitch about it does no good because Prince had your money whether you liked the product or not. The best way to show you don't like a product is to make them feel it in the pocketbook. Now, "Purple Rain Deluxe", on the other hand, I bought it on the first day of release and even called Best Buy a few days early to make sure they had it before wasting my time driving up there. And if they didn't have it, I would have searched all over the place for it. I gladly support things I like and if I don't like it, I don't spend one cent on it.

Go to the Tidal store, not streaming, find your reciept and send them an email. They will send you a link to the files. Or look in your download file on your computer if you downloaded them a while ago. Tidal customer service is very good and they get back to you within a day.

I don't doubt that at all. There's plenty of ignorance and bad taste around these days. Just look at what's all over the radio. I like the song... but yeah, didn't P say he wanted PP to turn into a museum?

Prince did plan to turn it into a museum--that doesn't mean that the way it's been done is what he intended. But who knows? For Jay-Z, it just mixes in to the unprofessional (at best) or dishonest (at worst) way that Prince's legacy is being handled. Now, the fact is that when Prince was at war with the industry, Londell is who he went with and who he publicly credited with much of the success of his efforts (whatever we might think of that "success"). So there you are, not that it means he had any sense of what he was doing with the Universal deal or anything else with the estate's affairs.

As to whether I want things to be handled by Tidal--nope, I don't. I want a mainstream approach, across platforms and services, with reliable physical releases for most, if not all future Prince product. I don't see that happening with Tidal. Prince may have been able to push for that during his lifetime, but Tidal has too much of an exclusive release/availability type approach for me to want that to be where Prince's legacy winds up. Nothing against Jay-Z in that--if I knew that general widespread availability would be guaranteed, I don't mind at all to see the word Tidal on the discs and for some of the money to end up in his hands.

Okay let me put my little 2 cents in. Prince was the main person promoting Tidal. He said it was the only streaming system that he felt would pay him right. And I'm tired of people saying that Jay Z is doing this for money. THIS IS A BUSINESS!! Of course there is going to be money involved! We need to stop worrying about other people's money and worry about who is doing right by Prince. For every song that is played on Tidal, Prince was getting paid for and he was getting the amount of money he wanted and the other people were getting the amount they wanted. Either way somebody is getting paid, that's just how it works. *whew* Rant over

Co-sign. People act like Prince had a gun put to his head when he signed with Tidal. He wanted a bigger royalty rate and he got what he wanted. Now there are people trying to undo and none seem to see the problem with breaking a contracual document because some idiot lawyer wants to get a check

Damn it! It's just too much going on all over the internet today, I can barely keep up. lol Anyhoo, here's my quick two cents about this. I'm with Jay-Z and I'm not mad at him for speaking on it. Everybody KNOWS damn well if Prince hadn't died, his music would not be all over Spotify and the rest. That shit happened literally...over his dead body.

Whatever the deal was he had with Tidal, it's what he wanted iin the end because it was still in place and likely was going to continue. For all of Londell's wheeling and dealing, the estate honestly doesn't seem to be any better off for it, now does it?

I'll be back later. cool

Jay Z is no better than LM. He's after the $$.
Prince pulled a no show on Jay Z for a reason at one of His benifits concerts. I will side with P any day...plus he told all his fans to support our local record stores with finding his last hit and run. That's exactly what I did.
I do not support Tidal and think the time with them and P was coming to an end.

Geez, I had to go and re-read the lyrics, but yeah, it all kinda weird that Prince and Eric get mentioned in the same song.

Afterall is said and done I much more prefer frustation come out this way as opposed to in ways that seem like an fu to the fans.

If Jay-Z was a white guy with the same shoddy busines practices and crap music I still wouldn't like him and would still say the same thing. I actually agree with some of those lyrics but in the end he's as much as a money grubbing corporate tool like Universal, WB or Londell. I would rather see Prince's family get some help from professionals with a proven track record regarding cultivating an estate and leave these clowns where they are.
Jay-Z should just sit down and understand that Prince just used him as another pawn.

But it is observable that the same level of hate and criticism is not levelled at Spotify here. And that is a streaming service Prince resolutely did not want his music available on, and that is exactly what has occured after his passing.

Meanwhile, many fans here attack the very streaming service Prince did approve and provide his music to during his lifetime.
