Read Princes messages...they are clear. Maybe he gave him some music so he wouldn't wind up like he did. You are aware of what Prince said about JayZ when he refused to appear at that charity concert and when Prince did not show up Jay Z was mad and burned Princes hit and run CDs saying some disturbing things.... Look it up the info is out there.

This is complete nonsense and b.s conspiracy theories. I guess you probably think Jay-Z is a 'satanist' and part of the illuminati as well, right? You are making way too much of Prince's no-show at that concert. Prince shared live performances and plenty of additional material with Tidal well after that occured. It really wasn't that significant.

There is no proof about that concert that anything happend beyond Prince not making it. If things were so bad between Tidal and Prince why was the Baltimore concert broadcast on Tidal? Why did Prince continue to send them content up and until the week before he died Was someone putting a gun to heads and forcing him to work with Tidal. Read the court docs nothing is going on with Tidal that was not going on with the UMG deal. More laywers trying to breach contacts to get commission checks.

There was a link of the concert on a now deleted thread on here. If you search it might show up. It was clearly an issue and JayZ was not happy with Prince.
And IMO Prince may have given JayZ those songs because of this.

There was nothing in those links but gossip and Prince gave Jay-Z music because he was contratually obligated to do so. You do realize that Tidal has some sort of proof of a contract or exchange of money or this case would not be going to court.

but the quick assumption that Prince fans here don't like the Jay Z connection because of race is simple and so overlooking all the other real reasons they don't like it.
U have been a Prince fan long enough to know most people around these parts Don't like a lot of inbetweeners between them and Prince. Jay Z became an inbetweener.

.

And if he was Jewish, people would go after that ethnic group with all their stereotypes if their issue is race.

Not one person has given and logical, legal or sound reason that they do not like the Prince connection. Not a single one. If if he was Jewish no one would be routing for his business to fail. I never saw anyone cheering for Facebook to fail.

Some of you have not taken the time to read about Tidal's case and just do not like rap music or are just racist which is bizzare considering Prince was certainly black

[Edited 7/1/17 19:09pm]

it doesn't have to be logical. It doesn't mean it is race.
People go after Beyonce, for all kinds of reasons, some may be logical some not.

.
Serious? Facebook? Where is the Prince connection?

Again, stay focused.
A whole lot of Prince fans don't like a middle man between them and Prince.
It would not matter who was there, it would be a problem.
Did we not go after LotusFlow3r and who ever it was operating that? No one new the race of anyone

.

And stop with your seriously ignorant race flames.
Some people don't like rap music. So what? Some don't like Jazz or Rock or Folk or Country. So fucking what?

Does Jay Z represent rap?

Sweety I was there in the 80s when rap music was doing it's thing from underground to serface. I had UTFO and Roxanne Shante and the Real Roxanne, I was at the Fresh Fest concerts and will always be a hardcore Run-DMC and Jam Master Jay(RIP) fan.

I was there in the 80s when older BLACK folk were against Rap music.

I watched a show where Glady's Knight talked about why she liked rap and Della Reese explained why she didn't

So you need to get off it.
Get off the race flame baiting.
Get off the idea that 'white folk' don't like it, when everytime I hear some hardcore rap music being played in a car driving by it is someone white (male or female) and get off the idea that all Black folk like or should like Rap music and know who Jay Z is and like and respect him because it isn't true.

I question who's signature maybe on that proof they say they have....strange how they brought that up late in the game.
The video was proof and was very upsetting as it was very disrespectful of Prince. Remember he set fire to his tapes as well as what came out of his mouth. I will continue to stand by Prince not those that choose to disrespect him.

Wow! Why should it be race related??
If Jay-Z was a white guy with the same shoddy busines practices and crap music I still wouldn't like him and would still say the same thing. I actually agree with some of those lyrics but in the end he's as much as a money grubbing corporate tool like Universal, WB or Londell. I would rather see Prince's family get some help from professionals with a proven track record regarding cultivating an estate and leave these clowns where they are.
Jay-Z should just sit down and understand that Prince just used him as another pawn.

But it is observable that the same level of hate and criticism is not levelled at Spotify here. And that is a streaming service Prince resolutely did not want his music available on, and that is exactly what has occured after his passing.

Meanwhile, many fans here attack the very streaming service Prince did approve and provide his music to during his lifetime.

Thank you for the truth.

Again, that kind of criticism applies to streaming in general and any streaming services, including Spotify. All the exclusive music Prince provided Tidal was also available to download in their store without a subscription.

I have many downloads and have never paid a cent for them and never will. If I'm going to spend money, it is going to be on an actual original CD or record. Spending money on a download is like borrowing a friend's record back in the day and recording it onto a blank cassette tape. if you download something and burn it onto a CD, you simply have something "homemade" and not the original product. Homemade recordings have always been free except for the price of the blank tape and they should continue to be free except for the price of the blank CD. I want my Prince CDs original, not homemade.

I agree, but your issue, then, should be with Prince and not with TIDAL since Prince GAVE his work to TIDAL. I think subscribing to streaming sites is stupid, but, again, it was Prince's idea to GIVE his work to TIDAL. So, if you don't like that Prince's work is on a streaming service, be angry with Prince and now his family. Jay-Z simply accepted with Prince GAVE him. And for some reason, many folks on this site, not you specifically, are angrier at TIDAL for having Prince's work than other streaming sites. And, I can only wonder why. I don't ever plan to join a streaming site, but I'm not going to be angry at any company for accepting the ability to sell Prince's work.

Race plays a factor in many things. Just because some people want to closed their eyes to it does not mean it is not a variable on how they view Jay Z.

Yes, but not always. Or for the rest of our lives we are imature children jumping at ghosts.
Sometimes it is a strawman or a monkey wrench thrown in to distract from the real deal.

I've seen women arguing/debating with a man, loosing the arguement throw in that man must be sexist or something to try to get people to pay further attention to them and disqualify the man in the debate.
Race cannot be the first thing that comes up whenever...

The fact is many African-Americans do NOT like Jay Z

And to assume the people on here who disagree with him are non-Black racists is BS

And it is a very weak arguement.
I know some ladies who are African-American and we worked together on Police Brutality issues, I believe it was Beyonce's Formation thing that came up and they went on about their dislike for Jay Z and what they think of him and how they still feel he cause a lot of trouble in the communities etc etc.
These were Black women.

From slavery to today, there have always been black people who worked with the oppressor to ingratiate themselves to the white power structure by talking negatively about any black person who resists white domination. That does not mean that all black people must agree about the level of racism/white supremacy that exists today, but I can't think of anything that Jay-Z has done that creates trouble in the African-American community or anything that he has done that justifies police officers killing unarmed African Americans. (Well, there was that one time he encouraged white fans at the MTV awards to chant the N-word, but Prince allowed Shelia E to use it in a song as well so they both are guilty of that dumbass mistake.) As such, these black folks that you so conveniently present simply remind me of self-hating negroes who will do anything to ingratiate themselves to the white power structure unless they can provide specific examples of what Jay-Z has done to cause trouble in the African-American community.

U R probably allegedly a Jay Z fan.
That is cool.
I'm not, but I don't dislike Jay Z either. Just not a fan.

.

poorly or not U asked for proof that Black folk have a problem with Jay Z.
I provided it. It was late at night. I was not in the mood to make it all nice

.

What U posted means nothing to what we were originally talking about.
.
Again, I don't have a problem with Jay Z as a person. Get that through your head.
U R the one pushing hard on this. Like Jay Z don't like him.
As I told Rdhull. Prince fans tend to want direct access to Prince. They bitched when he signed back with WB, they bitched when he signed with Tidal. We had hard times even with LotusFlow3r.com and 3rdEye.com Prince fans want access. There was that almost 3yr period where PRince didn't release an album. The last 6 years were a little ruff.

.
What up swirl bro

But what I've expressed identity wise means nothing here, I've defended Jay Z as a person, and I like his wife. Having issues with Tidal has nothing with Jay Z and race. I wanted access to hardcopy albums. Back then when this was all talked about the word was you had to sign up/pay a fee with Tidal.
U could be triracial, and none of this matters as far as my thoughts on the subject.

U r making a biased assumption that it must not be 'black folk' who have issue with Jay Z.

im a huge Roots/Questluv fan, and if he was tidal, I would still have a reaction. But because I see him like us a hardcore Prince fan I would think differently.

So unless everyone agrees with your take on things, it must be racism?

First off, I am a mild Jay-Z fan. My favorite emcee is Ghostface. I'm a huge Nas fan, & I've had issues with some of Jay-Z's lyrical content. I am however enjoying his new album.

I'm seeing people say "He's greedy", yet Tidal was built for artists to earn far more than Youtube, iTunes, & Spotify is willing to offer. So, it amazes me that Jay is so "slimy" & "greedy", but WB, Youtube, iTunes & Spotify are better? Jay-Z is actually looking out for the artist & Prince actually had an agreement with Tidal, & if Tidal is that bad, why did he do it?

So, do I think race is involved, when no one has yet to show any real proof behind the hate? There is definitely a possibility, not a fact .

If this was Birdman, or Puffy, I wouldn't even have argued the point, because they are proven to be slimy, snakes, & truly greedy in their business ethics. Jay-Z in NOT known for that.

That was my issue from the start. Hence why I typed what I typed. Tidal may not be perfect, but I believe there's something else there too. I've never seen this much hate just for a music service. I had Tidal @ one point, & it wasn't even that bad. It just wasn't free.

Is it just because artist want better pay for their music that people have a problem paying for a subscription with Tidal? You tell me. I, personally see nothing wrong with it.

& You are also absolutely right about most Prince fans; They are never satisfied. lol btw, I shared the articles I shared, because, contrary to those ladies beliefs, Jay-Z does do positive things in black communities & he does appear to care about what's going on out there.

Okay let me put my little 2 cents in. Prince was the main person promoting Tidal. He said it was the only streaming system that he felt would pay him right. And I'm tired of people saying that Jay Z is doing this for money. THIS IS A BUSINESS!! Of course there is going to be money involved! We need to stop worrying about other people's money and worry about who is doing right by Prince. For every song that is played on Tidal, Prince was getting paid for and he was getting the amount of money he wanted and the other people were getting the amount they wanted. Either way somebody is getting paid, that's just how it works. *whew* Rant over

PR4Life so right!

Prince pulling all his music of other sites is a complete endorsement for Tidal-wave, add his 50% equity stake negoiated with Jay-Z eye 2 eye, maybe one day the fan's will understand how we can all tap in 2 our pineal gland Prince did

No RACE is not involved.
Everyone from April 21st 2016 till now is accused of being vultures greedy milking (there is another word that I believe starts with a C that has been used a lot that I cannot remember)

EVERYONE no one is exempt from the wrath of Prince fans.

Don't you know there are many who still believe Prince faked his death

Haven't you read all the murder conspiracy's

Haven't you read the hatred directed at Prince's various family members

and Tyka plotting Prince's death.

But you gotta admit, You like Jay Z. So you see things differently. And obviously others don't.
It is the way it is. He is an entertainer. Think about all the reason people like or don't like Beyonce.

No there is nothing wrong with paying through Tidal. But in a society now were you pay to pay for something, even pay to pay a bill. Yeah people are not too confident in stuff and people.

I still did not get my Tshirt and song from LotusFlow3r.com

No, race is not the issue.

Yes, But like I said, I spoke against what those ladies said, pointing to various positive things Jay Z has done and the belief that people do change. But that is their belief.

I never said that Jay-Z represents Blackness or the Black community. I responded specifically to the point that these ladies said that Jay-z's work harms the black community. From what you have provided about these ladies, it seems that they have a rather myopic view/understanding about the narrative arc of Jay-Z's lyrics and career, and that's coming from someone like me who is not the biggest fan of hip hop merely because of the musical aesthetic. Of course, your friends have a right to their opinion regardless of how limited/narrow-minded it may be.

*

And if you want to make this a pissing contest, I've spent the last twenty years of my life teaching writing classes to help students improve their ACT scores to earn their way into college. Additionally, I have actually impacted and helped write public policy and legislation regarding laws that harmed Afro-Mississippians, including city ordinances regarding high speed chases in residential areas and removing stop and frisk policies. Furthermore, my entire adult life has been about working with black folks in Mississippi to get justice in the most racist state in America so I know what the trenches look like. Even more, because I have spent so long in the trenches, I had the experience of teaching college English to one of the biggest drug boys in our city, helping him to change his life from dope boy to community activist. So, while I'm no life-time fan of hip hop, I can appreciate anyone who is willing to work to change oneself, much like the young man that I taught and much like Jay-Z continues to do. It's a pity that your two "black" friends can't see this.

1. I never said you did. My post before you came in was to someone else. My post was directed at the bs that people must be racist because they are against Jay Z. You are responding to a debate/discussion I'm having with someone else.

.
Of course, I don't care what their view point is. My original reason (which had nothing to do with convenience) was simply that there are a lot of black people that don't like Jay Z nor know who he is. So when others questioned persons race or racism earlier in the thread, it was a moot point.
The Jay Z thread in NonPrince Music has a lot of 'black' identified org members who don't like Jay Z. Why, is irrelevant. As I said to others, and this is nothing new, Prince fans can be extremely fanatic about Prince and don't like middle men between them and their Prince. And since April 21st 2016 everyone is being accused of going after $$$ so for Jay Z to get a little heat is nothing compared to what Tyka and the family is getting.

.

2. Dude, who is pissing? Where is the pissing contest? I'm not talking about me, I'm not talking about you. I was talking about the group of ladies. They are not my friends either. I did not read everything, because it is irrelevant to this, but I hope you feel a sense of accomplishment and have a good heart at it.

.

You are a Jay Z fan, I get it, your want to defend him, I get it. The discussion is hot over here: http://prince.org/msg/8/4...?&pg=1 New Jay-Z Album, 4:44

.

additional to the above Jay Z discussion:

Surprisingly, TMZ claims that Kanye had no idea that JAY-Z was about to drop an album bashing him when the financial dispute erupted last month. "4:44," which was released on June 30, delivered some pretty harsh lyrics aimed at Kanye.

The track "Kill JAY-Z" hits hard: "But you got hurt because you did cool by 'Ye / You gave him 20 million without thinkin' / He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f--- was he thinkin'?"

No RACE is not involved.
Everyone from April 21st 2016 till now is accused of being vultures greedy milking (there is another word that I believe starts with a C that has been used a lot that I cannot remember)

EVERYONE no one is exempt from the wrath of Prince fans.

.
Don't you know there are many who still believe Prince faked his death

Haven't you read all the murder conspiracy's

Haven't you read the hatred directed at Prince's various family members

and Tyka plotting Prince's death.

.

But you gotta admit, You like Jay Z. So you see things differently. And obviously others don't.
It is the way it is. He is an entertainer. Think about all the reason people like or don't like Beyonce.

.

No there is nothing wrong with paying through Tidal. But in a society now were you pay to pay for something, even pay to pay a bill. Yeah people are not too confident in stuff and people.

I still did not get my Tshirt and song from LotusFlow3r.com

.

No, race is not the issue.

.

Yes, But like I said, I spoke against what those ladies said, pointing to various positive things Jay Z has done and the belief that people do change. But that is their belief.

lol I'm done. Just stop being naive, man. Race is definitely involved....just not for everybody. I'm not going to keep doing this with you. I don't where you're from, or how you grew up, so I'm done.

Adults don't jump at shadows. If there is someone real and presented, that is the only thing you can go by here. U cannot accuse people you don't know, in this instance of being racist, because they don't like Jay Z. This is Org culture. It is what it is.

Go over to the discussion on the album, a lot of the people who don't care for Jay Z are black org members.

I've mentioned this several times as well and none of the posters critical of Tidal here even acknowledged it.

But yes, their central argument is moot because all the exclusive Prince music at Tidal was and remains, available without a subscription or the need to stream.

Stop putting words into my mouth/statement to construct your straw man argument. Show me where I said that I was a Jay-Z fan. I've written on this site several times that I'm the least hip hop person I know. And, I've never purchased a Jay-Z album in my life. I am aware of some of his biggest hits, but I'm more aware of his narrative arc to improve his life. His music, for the most, doesn't move me, but I like a lot of the philanthropic work that he does. This is the point I was addressing--that the ladies you presented seemingly have a very narrow/myopic understanding of what it means to be a black person struggling against white supremacy while also struggling to become a better individual. You presented these ladies as if somehow that proves that Jay-Z is harming the community with his work, and I simply countered by asserting, again, that their notions seem to be limited and that there have always been black folks willing to minimize other black folks either to ingratiate themselves to the white power structure or simply because they don't like that other black person's notion of blackness.

*

As such, the pissing contest started when you felt a need to list their socio-political accomplishments as if that somehow justifies their narrow-minded/myopic understanding of blackness. By listing their accomplishments, you seemed to be clearly assuming/asserting that folks who see Jay-Z has having made a positive change and impact on the black community are people who could not have possibly done as much for the black community as the two ladies that you presented. These ladies may have done some work for/within the black community, but that does not mean that their notion of Jay-Z and blackness is not limited/narrow.

The way he/TIDAL acted right after Prince died shows that he obviously does not respect Prince and it IS worth mentioning that Jay Z embellishing things in his rap songs and often lies. Why is that not worth mentioning? I am not sure why you have so much trust in a man that cannot be trusted. Nothing has been proven in court yet so its interesting you are siding with him.

--It is not about siding it is about legalities. Do you really think that Prince gave Tidal music files and received no payment? Why did Prince say he wanted to put the last concert on Tidal and sent content the last week he was alive if he revived no money. Do you realize a big chunk of his catalogue we would not even have access to if it were not on Tidal. Do you not know what equity is? Do you realize the difference between and charity/non-profit and a business. Oh a people have been embellioning things in music since the blues. What is your point?

So if YOU know people embellish things in rap songs why are you choosing to believe Jay Z then? confused What you said makes no sense. Read what you said.

None of this has anything to do with the fact that you are choosing to side and trust Jay Z (for whatever reason). He hasn't done anything that shows that fans should completely trust his word. He has done shady things such as putting unauthorize material on TIDAL without Prince/Estate permission RIGHT after he passed away (basically taking advantage of his death) So I KNOW right there he aint shit and never will be shit.

GO JAY Z Thats hitting HARD

No matter what anyone else thinks about him...

Jay Z had a LOT of respect for Prince...I dont think he is being driven strictly by dollars..He has enough...I believe Jayz and Prince understood each other on a Level that many did not.

If Jay Z had respect for Prince why did he put unauthorize Prince songs on TIDAL a day AFTER Prince died....that is not respect.

Why was he bragging that he owned Prince catalog ( a LIE) AFTER Prince died...that is not respect.

Yall keep putting trust in this JOKE for some strange reason. Yea Jay Z is a JOKE.

Might be uncomfortable for some to believe but Prince choose to have his music on Tidal because. 1)He believed in Jay's artist friendly, middle finger to the overseer approach and 2)he wanted to support this black owned business. The struggle is real, just listen to Black Muse.
