Cosmic Day is one of the most overrated unreleased songs in his repetoire..tied with that Big Tall Wall crap ppl used to die for. "Climb in my fur."

"Our Destiny" would have been perfect for the Family album, with Susannah on lead vocals.

Even though I am absolutely thrilled about all the vault releases on the forthcoming PR Deluxe "Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden" are a slight disappointmenet cause of how shoddy the sound quality is. How does this happen? Werent these un-released tracks provided by the Estate for inclusion? Hearing this probably not. "OD/RG" sound like Prince demos submitted to the label A&R in 84 as guides, not finished Prince & The Revolution masters. It's like Warner Music already had these and just added them to the PR Deluxe disc as a value add. Maybe that explains why material, not necessarily dated "Purple Rain" period, is on this release.
There was a lot consternation on this site when "Electric Intercourse" got released, most saying they prefered the Live version from the 1st Avenue 83 show rather than the studio recording. While I LOVE the live verison for me the studio version is just as good, bristling with sexual tension and avant garde touches. I think it is brilliant. Yet in the case of "Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden" I definitely prefer the 84 Birthday show live versions - full of life, power and so much stronger than the studio (demo version) in my opinion.

I'm grateful for ANYTHING coming out of the vault. I try to keep in mind that these were NOT released OFFICIALLY by Prince himself. With that being said, I LOVE them both. Roadhouse Garden is a bit more catchy as of now.

although it may not be Prince's own edit, I absolutely love the segue from OD to RG, puts a big smile on my face, I don't mind minor changes like this one, to improve the music when Prince for various reasons didn't finish it himself. I know and understand and respect that lots of people will disagree with that.

After hearing these I'm SOOOOO glad he did ATWIAD instead. That whole album is miles ahead of these. They are ok...but not near the quality of anything on that album. Yes, although i like the songs, they are no way on the level of the album tracks (pr & atwiad). I understand prince didnt release them

Finally listened to the pair last night.
I can't say Our Destiny sounds dramatically better than what I've been listening to, but it could be because I bought it on iTune.
For those new to the song, the whole intro may sound too brittle at first, like there's something wrong, but wait a few weeks and you will see it's by design and makes perfect sense in its minimalism once the vocals and other instruments start swelling exuberantly and urgently. The bit after "best specimen I've ever seen" is among my all-time favorites.
I'm not as familiar with Roadhouse Garden, but the versions I've heard before do not sound like this one. It sounds more bouncy than I remembered.

ATWIAD was a crap fest aside from PP,RB,America, and Pop Life. Roadhouse would have fit nicely on ATWIAD with the alternate version of ATWIAD that was on You Tube last year.

. Are you serious??? | |

After 1999,Purple Rain and before Parade and Sign and Lovesexy it is the lesser album of the five.
I would keep the alternate version of ATWIAD and add She's Always in My Hair. Condition and Temptation and two of my least played songs in his catalog.
Now the wife agrees with you so what do I know.
We Prince fans never agree.

Glad to have the songs. Solid, But his best material. Would prefer to have G Spot.

It's a matter of taste > Condition of the Heart & Temptation are two of my favorite Prince Trax ever ....& most challenging & complex songs ever written by PRINCE !

I much prefer the amazing versions of OD/RG from the 1984 birthday show, but I'm glad to have these officially released. I'm keeping my expectations low for any and all future Prince releases. Well, maybe not low per se, but not unrealistically high. I just want to enjoy the fact that I have new ("new") Prince music to purchase again. Also, on a selfish and illogical note, the subpar sound quality makes me feel better about the deluxe PR set not being released on vinyl. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

G Spot os meandeing. And "ordinary." These other jams are not normal traditional songs in the sense of the music and structure. The essence of what vintage Prince music was about. I dont get the love but like they say we all have different tastes. "Climb in my fur."

Condition of the Heart is up there with Beautiful Ones and Adore as my fave ballads. Temptation is the one weak track on the album for me...I would've been ok it being replaced with She's Always or if OD/RG was fleshed out more.

Everybody seems to dislike Temptation. It has his sexy dirty guitar groove, solo, and some of his most uninhibited singing.
I bet ihe had ever did it live guitar god-wise, folks would lose their mind..wait a minute now "Climb in my fur."

G spot is not ordinary. I'm not sure which other songs you are referring to, but if you mean songs like Condition of the Heart then I agree. The wooh is on the one!

G Spot is a simple sax durge. Nothing extraordinary about it. "Climb in my fur."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I guess we just have do disagree on that one. Do you like 17 Days? It could be described as meandering as well. Anyway I like songs like Condition of the Heart and RG is pretty cool as well. The wooh is on the one!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The meandering of 17 days is of unordinary music though. Its sounds of never before heard. Like music made from Mars.
It's his greatest song..or third greatest. "Climb in my fur."

If I were to be critical, it sounds very "80's" but otherwise is one of the better circulating bootleg songs. Not top 10, but top 20. Roadhouse Garden, Destiny and the studio version of Electric Intercourse would not make my top 20. The live version of Electric Intercourse is probably in my top 5. The studio version actually wouldn't make my top 50. Sounds really hokie. [Edited 5/13/17 8:03am]

Hm. So meandering isn't really a problem after all. But I agree that 17 Days sounds great. And to think that Prince could create that wonderful sound by himself! What du you think about a song like Heaven? [Edited 5/13/17 8:19am] The wooh is on the one!

Jus listen to the bootleg. All you others say Hell Yea!!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Not neccessarily (regarding meandering..because if its innovative etc than innovative can meander forever because its wonderful to hear non stop), but Heaven, fro what I remember (from some 3 cd boots I have, Deposition?..) I disliked it very much. If its what I remember, that annoying rewrr rewrr synth isn't working to well imho. "Climb in my fur."
