What the hell, why? This is a proper release by a company not a bootleg that is charming.
.
And don't you get the sense that WB doesn't really care about this release or Moonbeam Levels on the GH which is why they haven't bothered getting these from the vault?

Question... Is the opening of Our Destiny the same instrumental used as the opening for The Ladder?

Yep, they took the strings from OD and reused them on the Ladder.

They originally were two songs anyway

Our Destiny I still always liked more than Roadhouse. he must have never finished Roadhouse garden with the band other than the live version.

Roadhouse Garden is an unreleased track, recorded during Prince and the Revolution's concert on 7 June 1984 at First Avenue in Minneapolis, MN, USA, during the same show where the basic tracks for Our Destiny and All Day, All Night were also recorded.

Awesome, thank you!

On reflection, I hope WB don't issue too many tracks before the official release as I'd rather wait and listen to everything together rather than in bits n'pieces.

Otherwise, there will be nothing to look forward to.

I understand the nicer way to say "I wish Prince was on lead" is the purpose here, but we also have to remember Prince oversaw this project, and it's how it was intended back then. We do have that demo that leaked at the first of the year if you want Prince on vocals. It keeps the integrity to have Lisa on it. Prince was in that "let Wendy & Lisa finish it" mode around that time. He was so busy with Under The Cherry Moon that to know his vision and what he allowed anyone else to do is historically important.

Overall though, to have these tracks at all is the ultimate prize.

PS There is a MEGA download link out there. The quality is okay. It was "mastered for iTunes" so the quality is a bit different than the CD is going to be, to me. (Granted, it's a 1985 song recorded with 1985 technology.) Get it while the gettin' it hot.

you really want people to steal a song that only costs $1.29 to buy legally (or less if you buy the album)?

I really don't understand why people just can't accept that, according very reputable people over the years, Prince did not take care of his old tapes/recordings. So of course some material is going to be better quality. Back to these songs though. Yeah.... Not the best quality. I agree with all of the other comments. Still happy to have them.

this has nothing to do with what prince did with his tapes. they haven't been in the vault
at paisley park to pull up these tracks. and prince didn't give them all this shit. have you
been paying attention to prince since 2001? and you believe he would simply give them
'we can fuck' to put on the remaster? they had these tracks in their own vaults. there've
been numerous posts of people in the know on other threads about this.

Actually there has not been various people "in the know", there have been many people speculating. Warner does not have a vault of "unreleased Prince tracks". I'm sorry, but they don't. That's the excuse people want to make to say that either there is "no way" Prince would release these tracks or to explain the reason for their less than stellar sound quality. You said it yourself, Warner has not been in Prince's vault. They wouldn't need to, because Prince gave this material in exchange for HIS MASTERS! Yeah, you know those things he was fighting for since way back in the 90's? Have I been paying attention since 2001? Yep, I sure have. Same old Prince, with a JW coat on. Have you been paying attention to Prince's whole career? What makes more sense, that Prince would:

A) Sign a new deal with Warner in 2014, dick around with providing quality content to them (PR wasn't remastered until 2015 and was overseen by Prince), be his usual "say one thing then move on to something else" self, and then unexpectedly die in 2016, so WB has to use what he already provided in the state he gave it to them

or

B) Warner has a vault of unreleased Prince songs that they could have released YEARS ago that they have NOW decided to use, and they are in such horrible shape, even though everything else in Warners vault is still in great condition?

I swear, some of you people are completely delusional.

I don't think it's been mentioned but it is available on SPOTIFY UK and iTunes UK now.

I heard it whilst I was downstairs and my partner had New Release Radar playing whilst he was having a shower upstairs at 7am this morning.

I had to go upstairs and question "What are you playing?!"

His response "No idea, I thought it was playing backwards"

He's not too keen on Prince btw

Listened to the official version and the bootleg of the two songs side by side, and there is no difference. Just like Moonbeam Levels, this is probably sourced from the bootleg. Either WB is putting bootlegs on an official release or the master tape has degraded to that point (Making Prince himself the leaker of said tracks last year) (doubtful).

I agree that the OD/RG sound quality isn't like that of EI.

Anyway I can't find an issue on the thing, to my ears it sound as listenable as the official "Little Red Corvette" and other songs of the first P era.

On a side note, I would like to know if who's givin' bad judgement on these releases is an old (old) fan from the 80's or he/she is a relatively new fan.

For me, aware of the existence (and to me beauty) of all these outtakes from nearly thirty years, listening to them in cassettes in sometimes absurd bad quality and hoping from so long to have access sooner or later to official quality of them, this "From The Vault" disk is like to receive the Holy Grail. Really no complaints, only satisfaction.

I have to say that it is a very smart strategy on WB's part to release these tracks one at a time ahead of the album launch.

I guess it is. I'm not buying them, though. I would, if I didn't know the whole package was coming in June, but Im fine with waiting--but what does WB gain from this strategy? Is it drawing anyone to the actual product that won't be getting it anyway? I'm just confused by what the point is.

It generates buzz from the fan base. I imagine WB don't think it will be 1984 again - those who will buy this will predominantly be people who already own the album, I'd venture. But there are a LOT of people who have bought the original, so generating buzz from the hardcore fans who then share their affection to fans who may have tuned out but have liked Prince in the past may well draw in (or bring back) others to buy the album through word of mouth.

They aren't putting out videos for these songs or announcing them - they know that we are checking them and it makes sense to me that they would rely on our buzz as a way to draw in sales. It's working for me, at least. I know a fan at work (he has tons of Prince stuff) who wasn't aware of this release, but you'd better believe when I saw him today I gushed about these songs.
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Whoever at warners tacked these two together fucked up. RG segues in WAY too early. We already know from the bootleg leak that Our Destiny continues on a little longer with the synths Which proves that this statement made by Sifi on the locked PR deluxe thread was complete bullshit: "Our Destiny contains Lisa´s vocals / Roadhouse Garden contains Prince´s vocals. Songs go back to back and will be released here as they were done in the studio."

We still can't be certain that this isn't how Prince wanted the track in it's final form. For exanple, if Parade had never been released and we had only heard the single version of Kiss on a bootleg and Warners were now putting out the Parade album for us, we could conclude that it's wrong because Kiss is cut off too early.

I'm not claiming to know what is right or wrong, just that we will now never know for sure.

It doesn't matter if this is what Prince intended it to be like or not, that point was Sifi was bullshitting when he said "this is how they were recorded in the studio". It obviously isn't

So yeah, the quality of these tracks on iTunes / Purple Rain Deluxe is not as good as EI.

.

If this represents the best available quality of OD, it might explain why on Hard 2 Get v.1 they layered the Lisa version with the 1st Ave version - as a way to conceal and otherwise fill in the dropouts and warbling from the Lisa version. The results are interesting if not essential.

.

The bottom line for me on the PR Deluxe version is, I'm glad to have it (purchased), but it's disappointing. However I think if even Warners is not able to do any better than this in terms of vault releases, it may motivate some elite collector(s) to be more free with anything they might have that's better.

According to your previous post, Sifi said "this is how they were DONE in the studio", and that is not necessarily the same as "recorded".

"Done" could simply mean "this is how the final master was done in the studio by Prince, editing the two (originally longer and separate) songs into one."

The additional recording done in September was the string overdubs and the vocals for the Jill jones version (according to princevault)
Just listen to how it segues in and tell me that sounds right to u...
To me it's obvious, Warners only had a copy of our destiny with a fade out (like the bootleg) but they wanted it segued with roadhouse (like it should be) so they had to tack it together

Have to agree with others that the sound quality is not master quality. It sounds like one of my cassette tapes from the 80's that I played and played and played with the warbling of the highs and tape hiss I can hear. Like someone else here said, I am really hoping that the liner notes addresses the reasons for this - something to the effect of 'because of the condition of the source material as we found it/was provided to us.....we cleaned it up/did our best to restore and correct as best as we can' type of statement. Or something from Susan Rogers talking about what we are hearing.

I am not sure what is going on this board. we go from crazy posts to splitting hairs on sifi.

more people are more concerned with with him being wrong or not in the know, than we are getting some cool shit from vault.

Perfect no.........

But hell my first copy of last heart had a skip, witness #1 sounded like a walkmen was used to record it.

Prince was difficult, his engineering of sound was not perfect, shit his last 10 albums were brickwalled and compressed to high hell.

All of a sudden everyone is a sound engineer with a $1milion dollar B&W abbey road setup.

try to enjoy the music. the emotion and feeling.

shit look at the beatles...... we had fake stereo, 87 cd's, anthology, and recently mono box set, and now deluxe sgt peppers...... love was done amazing by gilles martin but that was what 40 yrs later.

Unless you only use lossless 96/24 or 192hz sampling rates with pure analog signal path's let's not get nuts.

This generation listens to mp3/mp4 which are 1/3 to 1/4 the original information with beats headphones. let's keep it in perspective.

We got vault tracks...... last night I got a fng email that said our destiny/roadhouse gardent is ready to download. that's a big fng win for prince fans.

There is a difference on Roadhouse Garden. On the bootleg version i got, only Prince's vocals are in there. In the WB version, there's wendy's vocal on it and there some more production added (some delays and echoes on the voice for example).

But the win feels empty when an official release is sourcing from subpar quality tapes. I'm not an audio engineer, and am well aware of the criticism of the Crystal Ball set, but to my novice ears the outtakes sounded great. I had no qualms about sound quality. The sound quality of some of these new outtakes is well below that standard, which was Prince's.

If an unreleased song doesn't sound at least as good as what was on Crystal Ball, again, Prince's personal standard, I'm going to be disappointed. Material that is of lesser quality should come with a disclaimer, and be treated like a bootleg.
