How do we know sifi is legit?

All I can say is that I will share info that is confirmed within circles close to this project.

It's OK to be suspicious, I will not force anyone to believe me, nor will I go into back-an-forths about the validity about my posts. I happen to be in a position to share info, which seems useful, based on the comments I have seen so far. Many opinions seem to be based on rumour. I will continue to post info when possible.

*raises hand* you kind of skipped over the question that was just before this post.

What happened to the live stuff? Was that made up?

The Vault one is a real yawner. There's Other's Here With us--no. Do Yourself A Favor? no. How about something new we never heard. Why not release him jamming in the studio?

But the tracks you list were not recorded in the same time period as Purple Rain?

Why not email Warners about your concerns?

They would never listen. There agenda is make as much money as possible for as little material as possible. Why bother. Would emailing them about 4ever and Blu-ray box set have done any good. This is a company who thought they can add 1 extra track and resell an hits package for umpteenth time. And told us to treat 7"edits even on 4ever like unreleased gems. Warner's have been terrible. 3 releases since princes death and made a pigs ear out of all. Best for them to holding back details to save themselves a backlash.

That sums up the WB attitude and action toward this project and all things Prince these days.

If the track lists are indeed legit it seems that for CD3 they've tried to take into account what people that have been collecting bootlegs for years might want to hear.

Is "Electric Intercourse" really going to be described as a "studio version" on the package? There would be no real reason for it other than to make the fans that are already familiar with the live takes interested in it. There has been no official release of the track in any form so far.

Of course, the track list for CD3 doesn't look that bad as such.

I was just personally hoping that they would compile a really strong "Purple Rain 2" type of a "pseudo album" as one of the extra discs, putting tracks like "Do It All Night" that sound more like the stuff on the original album on it, instead of stuff like "Velvet Kitty Cat". Disc 3 gives me the impression of being a bit uneven stylistically, but I'm sure I'll love the previously unheard material on it anyway.

I may be the only person who's excited to have a 7" edit of "Purple Rain." I've always felt like that song plods along way too long past the mid-way point. But it's not a personal fave. There, I said it.

It totally makes sense to me to make remastered versions of the B-sides part of this package. The soundtrack's singles were what made Prince really famous for his B-sides. The "Baby, I'm a Star" edit may not be necessary for everybody, but it's short.

Disc 3 looks great to me. It wouldn't have made smart business sense to stuff too many great outtakes into one package. I just hope there's no question that these are from the true master tapes (unlike the "Moonbeam Levels" speculation).

It's amazing to me that this is finally coming out at all.

In 7 short years, we'll probably see another configuration for the Deluxe 40th anniversary.

That's the way it is on every CD, cassette, digital copy AND LP, so no, it won't be changed.

Pretty sure the point was an artistic decision and not merely an easter egg for those that purchased the vinyl... wink

Hope this sells amazingly well, only so it will warrant other "Deluxe" editions in that time....namley Dirty Mind, 1999, ATWIAD , Parade and ofcourse Sign Of The Time's (have a feeling this ones coming next...hopefully with Dream Factory material)

Disc 2 is a joke and where the hell is:

Prince's version of Modernaire (Dez said the master for his version is lost)

Prince version of G-Spot

Father's Song

When Doves Cry unstripped with bass and rhythm guitar

The strange Crying version of Father's Song

They could have made disc 2 the actual score by Michel Colombier. Why even include single edits?

Fathers Song is the last track on disc 3.

Okay I made a mistake with Father's song. I also want to say, Lust U always should be here, both the instrumental and vocal versions. if you look at the end of the purple Rain movie, right after baby I'm a star you notice that they play small samples of each song in the order that they are played in the movie. The very first song is a very small sample of the instrumental version of Lust U Always. Maybe that was the first track of the original cut of the movie.

however that does not mean I wouldnt buy it, I for one would love the score to be released and im sure it will......its just there's far more important work's that will be first in the cue......they should really pass the score and all the other associated artist's all on to "Rhino" or a similar company.....so they can remaster them......and warners should just concentrate on "Prince's" work.....they way we could get them all a lot quicker....

Exactly. Thàt would've been a total surprise...

-

Honestly, what a TOTAL let down this is... The edited versions are hopefully also remastered.

-

I do hope the packaging is a nice extend, and not a fucked up contemporary one. A nie booklet with the shooting of the cover picture for instance, stories, whatever... I'm afraid im longing too much here. wink

-

Why no Demo versions ?

Why no comments by co musicians ?

Why no Fargnoli additions to the choice of the music for the movie for instance ?

Or is that something we might expect for the DVD releases ?

well it seems like every other fucker is. Shelby, Morris and the rest either releasing new music on his death or touring. What the hell is that video from Morris, its awful. Prince world has gone mad. None of this would be happening if Prince would have had his way. Now you kind of see Princes point on keeping everything so tightly under control.

I'm too lazy to go clicking around and know there are some extremely knowledgeable folk here who have this info memorized...

Are the edits compiled on disc 2 everything that was contemporarily released? I can see why they include it, the whole picture gathered together, documenting the album, blah blah blah, but if it's just bits and pieces and not comprehensive that doesn't make sense then. Those single edits are the versions that were hits after all. Even though I'll never listen to 'em. Also some of those have never been on CD before or are pretty hard to find no?

Yes

About these 7 inch Single Edits... once I saw a bootleg compilation containing these Short versions,

and people / P-fans were in search for these 7 inch single edits (it was before the "4Ever" 2Cd).

Believe this, some really want to have it ALL, and I am actually one of these fans.

( recently I did buy the Scandalous promo-CD, just to own the 4 minutes short version of this brilliant Prince song )

--- and of course I know the 6 minutes album version + the 12 inch Scandalous Sex Suite are much better, heart

Still it's so nice to own them ALL, I can enjoy the 4 minutes edit of Scandalous a lot, still.

Ok just imho.. nod woot!

Releasing 7" edits is par for the course in reissue series in 2017, we'd be moaning if it wasn't there.

You're all working on the assumption that this cd of single mixes is taking the place of something else which we have zero evidence of bar our own personal wishlists.

Thanks Militant for the tracklist exclusive...nice work!

.

Personal track wishlists aside, there's plenty on this release for me to be happy about. Also my inner pessimist is just grateful this hasn't been canceled like soooo many of his other recent reissues.

.

I'm purchasing this without a doubt on the first day it's released. And if WB ever releases an even delux-ier version, I'll buy that too.

.

I hope this does well. I hope all his WB era albums get (super) deluxe editions.

Although to be fair what MOST people are pissed about is Warners issuing a misleading press release stating "two albums of unreleased material".

As I have said several times now, Warners will spin this because they used the word "album" not "CD" and will point to the fact that CD3 does indeed contain 2 X vinyl albums worth of material. But that was sneaky and a bit of a dick move.

Now if they had said from the beginning "one CD of unreleased material" nobody could complain (though of course this is the ORG so folks would definitely still be complaining)

Personally I too would rather NOT have the single edits and wish they were replaced with the alternative versions of WDC and Beautiful Ones (longer one) but hey ho big sigh!

Something else to consider is that people are also being pissed based on unofficial leaked information. There's still been no official announcement. It's entirely possible that the tracks Militant listed have been put in the data base because they are set in stone, yet a second unreleased disc is still being compiled and not yet definite and so not yet registered.

It's also entirely possible that the information we have is what will be released. But at the moment, nothing is 100% certain, so people should just wait and see before getting their knickers in a twist.

RIP sad
