Just a reminder that today is our FINAL day to download the #PRINCE songs that we are supporting in our campaign, so I am urging everyone who hasn't done it yet to download as soon as they can so that the songs can make their final leap up the charts. If you are just catching the Prince4Christmas train, here are these songs again*:

1. The Cross
2. Sometimes It Snows In April
3. Still Would Stand All Time
4. Moonbeam Levels

Our main strategy (which is proving rather successful so far), is to download them in that particular order, thus giving a chance for one of them to reach the top quicker. 'The Cross' is currently in #4 of the R & B category on Amazon UK, so let's see if we can move it even further up !

Thanks again for your interest, support and all the kind words of encouragement, let's remember who we are doing this for and... happy downloading! 1f642.png 1f49c.png 🎧1f3b6.png🎶

The 'Cross' is still #4 on Amazon R&B, 'Sometimes It Snows In April' is #2 in Classic Rock, 'Still Would Stand All Time' is now down at #27 in R&B (it got as high as #12 yesterday) and Moonbeam Levels is #149 in Pop category. Only 1999 remains in the iTunes R & B charts. One a side note Prince does have a #1 spot in Classic Rock with... Purple Rain of course! However, in the top 100 Song (overall list) 'The Cross' is doing really well at #45 whilst Purple Rain is only at #199.

R & B best selling songs on Amazon UK so far:

The Cross #4

Purple rain #8

Sometimes It Snow In April #11

When Doves Cry #18

Still Would Stand All Time #27

Pop

The Cross #21

Purple Rain #84

Moonbeam Levels #149

Still Would Stand All Time #346

Classic Rock

Purple Rain #1

Sometimes It Snows In April #2

When Doves Cry #6

Under The Cherry Moon #26

1999 #58

Strangely, 'The Cross' is not classed as Classic Rock (?).

Overall best-selling songs on Amazon UK so far:

The Cross #45

Purple Rain #134

Sometimes It Snow In April #256

Moonbeam Levels #293

Still Would Stand All Time #618

Prince is still only appearing once on the iTunes R&B charts with 1999 at #63. http://feeds.feedburner.c...soul-chart

Things are currently changing very quickly all the time, especially on this last day and we won't know for sure what the real deal is until tomorrow, when all the counts will be collected from all the different outlets, so anything could still happen... For now, even though this won't make him come back, I am still very grateful that his music has reached sales highs again and becoming visible to more people as a result. Big thank you to everyone who helped making this happen.

Ok, even though it has been looking quite good all week, and Prince is already occupying the first two places on Amazon UK in Classic Rock with Purple Rain at #1 and Sometimes It Snows In April at #2. 'The Cross', still at #5 in R&B on Amazon and at #29 on Google Play has started to drop dramatically in Pop and the overall Songs listing (Amazon) and for some mysterious reason is not showing on iTunes, although it did make a sudden appearance at #59 on Sunday.

We could just sit and watch everything gradually go down but I feel that we all worked really hard to get that far, to not use the last few hours to try something else would be a bit silly.

If we all download 'The Cross' from iTunes tonight (a place that I think not many Prince fans have maximized the use of yet) we might see something suddenly happen... I could send a call out on Twitter and Facebook now. What have we got to loose?

All we need is a connection and 99p...

Any thoughts/suggestions? Please send useful alternative suggestions. I just need your suggestions in terms of what track you consider best to push at this point, based on the current charts situation and the 4 hours we have left to spread the info.

Thanks! smile

Ok, we are going to wait another few more minutes. We need to act quickly if we are going to do this, so if no suggestions has been made in the next 15 minutes, we are going to try an get everyone to purchase 'The Cross' on iTunes only before 11:59pm tonight.

Ok, from now until 23:59, we would like everyone to please ignore the other songs and focus on purchasing 'The Cross' - preferably from iTunes.

We have 3 hours to do it and spread this info using anything we can, including the good ol' telephone lines.

Ready, steady...GO!!!!

We tried, Cherry - I did get a few people to download it but they're all so bloomin' disinterested in any / everything, lol! Nevertheless, it's been fun getting behind our man and seeing him in the singles charts again!

Well done to YOU, missus - your enthusiasm and dedication has been hugely inspiring...If you need a role in campaigning for better women's healthcare, let me know won't you? biggrin

Ha ha don't worry, I think we all did the very best we could considering the circumstances. I really enjoyed it though and met some amazing people along the way, which is a plus. I will certainly have a think about your offer... Although not an expert on the matter myself, apart from being a woman!

Ah well that's poor classification system for you!
At the end of the day, it's Prince who rules the 'Real Music For Real Music Lovers' category... cool

As most people know, the Christmas chart week is the hardest one to try and enter the charts because of the fierce competion that it involves so we all knew from the start that it was going to be a challenge. Greg James (Radio 1 presenter for those who don't know) actually said earlier that it was even tougher this year because we have lost a lot of heroes (David Bowie, Terry Worgan, Jo Cox, etc.) and therefore there was an even higher number of campaigns than usual to compete with.

He also pointed out that the streaming counts made all the difference this year for the contenders and the No1 (a non-mover) had a MASSIVE amount of streaming counts. That's a lesson learned and we will emphasize the importance of streaming a lot more next time. We also have to bear in mind that much of the Prince fan-base opted out, thus decreasing even more the chances of success of the campaign, not saying it is their fault, but you can't just watch something fail and criticise it if you haven't helped. ('Wicked is the witch...' you know the rest).

As for proving anything, (as someone pointed out earlier on FB that we didn't need to 'prove anything about Prince's music'), well actually no one ever said this campaign was destined to prove anything about Prince's music. As we have made it clear many times throughout the process, the secondary goal behind this Prince4Christmas was for the fans to unite and try to bring an unknown track to the wider audiences.

I think that we have achieved that. Whilst 'The Cross' didn't make it to the final 100, it still arrived at the top of the R&B sales on most outlets (reached #4 on Amazon and even managed to pierce through the very tough iTunes best selling list at #59 on Sunday) thus becoming more visible to the browsing customers who may have never heard of the track or even the album before (I am thinking younger people perhaps). Sometimes It Snows In April and Still Would Stand All Time did similarly well too. It was also fun to do, brought many people together and most have commented positively about how uplifting the exercise had been.

I personally enjoyed the experience and the outcome has far from discouraged me from running future Prince campaigns (quite the opposite). I am actually preparing the next one already (for April) and this time there will be no Christmas competition in the way, plus we already have a nice group of Facebook/Twitter supporters to build from and a lot more time ahead to organise it. I really look forward to it and I hope many of you will join us.

Rome was not built in one day...

You're probably thinking about SISIA... I am not sure we can do this one again (since everyone has already downloaded it!).

There will be a new thread soon, to decide on the song choice and what style (upbeat or not etc) we should go for. smile

You're welcome Moonbeam. I really thought ML would do a lot better (even without a campaign).

I guess many went for the whole album and Prince4Ever is doing really well in the album chart.

I think for something like this to really happen, Prince fans would need to unite (especially the UK ones). I don't know how many UK fans there are who check prince.org on a regular basis, but I bet it's upwards of 1,000. If every single one of them downloaded the same Prince track on the same date, he would be guarenteed a UK top 75 entry at the least on an average week. If those same 1,000 fans, all shared and retweeted on social media, it might even gain some attention from outside the Prince fan community, which is what you really need to make a chart campaign work.

This Christmas campaign started a little late in the day. I think if CherryMoon is serious about an April campaign, then he needs to start pimping it from January onwards.

The reason the Rage Against The Machine Christmas number 1 worked five or six years ago, was because of a social media campaign urging people to stop that years X Factor song from being the Christmas number 1. People were sick of X Factor ruining a UK chart tradition, and Rage Against The Machine stood for everything that was anti-Simon Cowell and anti-X Factor. You have to find a way to engage large numbers of people to make something like this feasable and worthwhile. You have to reach beyond the Prince fan community if there was ever going to be a successful chart campaign for a Prince song. How you do that is another matter altogether, I guess that's the million dollar question.

But Prince is a legend, and people have a lot of goodwill for the man, even outside of the hardcore fans. It is a crime when you think Prince has only had one UK number 1 single. If an April campaign goes ahead, I think CherryMoon should back the most popular Prince song (Purple Rain) and try and campaign outside the Prince fan community for it to be number one on the anniverary of his passing.

Try and think about different angles to promote it. There are a lot of real music lovers out there who aren't necessarily big Prince fans, but would certainly recognise and appreciate that he was a musical genius. Those are the people you need to try and get support from. You need to try and get the 25-40yr old demographic to come together to show the kids of today what real music sounds like.
