My concern is that whoever manages the estate -- including the tribute concert -- is someone who has the actual business knowledge to oversee this correctly (even if that means hiring the right team to manage the day-to-day). Just because someone was a musical associate of P or related to him, they might have no idea about all the issues involved in pulling off a huge stadium show -- let alone managing assets worth $300mm+

Disch, you are so right. It is an extremely complicated enterprise to manage such an Estate, let alone a tribute concert. I run a small business and I know what I go through - I cannot imagine the team required to manage Prince's businesses.

That was the BET Awards. Prince and Shelby were trying their best not to break down laughing when Alicia climbed on the piano, big pregnant.

Prince was trying not to laugh...as he just about squeezed Shelby's hand off. Shelby could not contain it! She was full on laughing.
But, P was gracious about it and stood to clap when Keyes was finished. I think he appreciated that he was being honored.

Actually Prince was terrified that Aleisha was going to fall and hurt herself and the baby while crawling on the piano. He grabbed Shelby's arm and only started smilimg when he saw Aleisha was okay.

And look at the face of the guy sitting behind them!! ROFL!! That's the first time I've noticed him. I bet this is one of Shelby's most treasured memories.

OMG, the expression on that guy's face is classic! I hadn't notice him either.
Yes, P is concerned as well. I think he's going through many emotions actually, but he sure can't let himself laugh yet. Shelby, though, she just doesn't hold back (although I do think part of her laughter is about P's reaction).
Too funny! | |

Please no Christina Aguilera or John Mayer as suggested in the article! Otherwise, it gives me some hope. There's confirmation that talks are happening and the Revolution still could be there. I'm going to look at the bright side and ignore the mention of those two performers. It would be horrible if Christina Aguilera and/or John Mayer perform at the memorial tribute. Hopefully, they are booked elsewhere!

Well, it appears Morris Day is out. He mysteriously deleted his last tweet about the Tribute Concert-now he's booked on the 14th in Jakarta, Indonesia. Couldn't possibly do both. Very pissed at him. At least Sheila E, immediately said she wasn't doing Minne. Morris said he was-advertising it and all-up until Sunday. I thonl the Tribute Concert is officially over

I'm not mad at Morris. Just like Brownmark's apparant change in how sure he seemed about this tribute, I think something behind the scenes and out of the control of Morris and Mark happened and this whole fustercluck imploded further than the mess it was before. I firmly believe something happened in just the last few days that seems to have put the final blow to this dead horse of an idea. It's too bad. Prince deserved so so SO much better than this mess.

Someone above suggested that they should have done a Celebration at Paisley Park -- and that honestly would have been such a better idea: Open up PP for a weekend a la Prince's Celebrations, with his old bandmates etc. doing intimate shows, sharing stories with fans, lots of memorabilia on display, screenings of his movies, etc. Something like that could have been both a festive memorial and also a lovely tribute in line with the kinds of events P himself hosted -- and it would have attracted a full house of die-hards, I think.

i think this is the absolute best idea for a tribute I've heard. Everything about it seems 'right' and it would have been a wonderful way to find closure (as much as one could) and pay respects in way, like you said, that Prince himself enjoyed hosting: having fans there at PP, enjoying the music, being together. I wish this could have been what happened in regards to a tribute. To me this would have been the perfect way to say 'goodbye' and 'thank you.'

But if this was also about needing to make $$ to help with legal fees, estate taxes etc. an event like that at PP wouldn't bring in the money that filling a 50K seat stadium would. It's still weird to me that just a few days ago BrownMark tweeted that he and Londell spoke and it was all good and he'd have more news soon. OK well we're almost to the end of another week with no news. Something obviously is preventing this from happening. I wish Londell or someone from the estate would just release a statement saying they ran into issues and it's being rescheduled for a later date. Yeah it sucks for those who bought plane tickets and hotel accommodations but I never would have done that without more concrete information, like when tickets would be on sale or an initial list of performers. I think the original statement was too vague to make plans off of. But I do feel bad for those that did. Paisley Park is in your heart

You would have needed many weekends to accommodate enough fans. This concert would have been great. I'd love to know what happened behind the scenes that they couldn't pull it off. And why they announced a date when it was clearly still very preliminary with no stadium booked, no acts secured. Sigh. Paisley Park is in your heart

Totally agree about the money -- a weekend PP event would definitely not have been any kind of cash cow (more a break-even thing, at best). But now, if that stadium event gets cancelled, they make no $$ AND they've pissed off fans who they're going to depend on to buy future stuff from the estate.
I think they just bit off way more than they could chew with this whole stadium-show idea.

I am still a bit skeptical that he would fly all the way to Indonesia only to turn around and fly back to the United States the next day (or would it be the same day?). And this is something he just added to his schedule this week? Weird. Paisley Park is in your heart

If Morris Day is busy, perhaps Jesse Johnson is available and can do a solo set! Sly Stone can also join him for their duet. Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis would also be awesome as performers at the memorial tribute.

Just a few days ago Londell is sending out cryptic keep the faith tweets and BrownMark is saying it's all good more to come...and then NOTHING. And what really sucks is I feel the opeining of PP for public tours was probably rushed so it would be open in time for anyone coming in to town for this concert. Well now that the concert doesn't look likely to happen there's no reason to rush to open PP yet tickets have already been sold so they have to move forward with it. What a shit show. i also really can't stand that cryptic shit (perhaps that's their way of honoring P, who knows). Just come out and say in plain English where this thing stands.
