Would love to see UTCM and SOTT with Prince fans, especially on Wed. night!

Hope some of the musicians he knew closest will be performing the majority. "Put on your boots Alfred...let's go!"

Gotcha, good to know. That sounds like a weird ass setup. I attended the UTCM showing at the Uptown Theatre. They did a showing of Graffiti Bridge the following week, but I wasn't able to attend. . People brought up wanting a showing of SOTT while at Cherry Moon, but the issue is the cinema doesn't know who owns the rights to the film or something along those lines, so they're a bit SOL even though they seemed up for it. Billboard tried to do a tribute with a "relevant" artist and it was a disaster. Keep it Purple. I have no doubt that true Prince fans will fill the stadium up. Prince and Gaga and Bruno had no connection. Is this a money maker or a tribute for his true fans?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Sure there is a connection. They don't necessarily have to have known Prince. They were both influenced by him in ways. The concert will be huge. They are not going to fill a stadium with acts like Esperanza Spalding or Sheila E.

My memory is a bit fuzzy about everybody who said they were influenced by P, but I think I remember Bruno saying that he was, not sure about Lady Gaga but I could see it. She has not own unique creativity. I'm not a human

. Yes! KEEP. IT. PURPLE. Prince did NOT care about celebrity status, so anyone that truly wants to honor him should not consider someone's celebrity status when choosing the artists to honor him at a memorial tribute. Period.

I had a feeling when US Bank stadium was announced the family was planning something bigger. It's a a 50,000 seat stadium. From the RS article it looks like they're trying to secure TV rights. You're not going to do that with a concert comprised of Revolution, NPG and 3rdeye band members. Like someone else said a huge stadium won't be filled just by more obscure acts that worked with Prince. You need some star power. Prince was one of the most influential and talented artists of the last 40 years. He deserves a major tribute. Paisley Park is in your heart

It's a tribute to Prince, not a concert for people who post on the org. This is what Bruno posted on Instagram after P's passing: [Edited 8/3/16 6:54am] Paisley Park is in your heart

What I think needs to happen is Michael Moore travel the world and talk to Prince fans. Ask about the first time they saw a Prince video, or heard a Prince song, what Prince meant to them, what they remember most about Prince, intersperse those interviews with concert footage and videos of Prince. Maybe even put in some of Prince's interviews, or excerpts from those interviews, and show this in theaters with the proceeds going to a chairty Prince supported. Maybe even have each theater do a food drive for local food pantries or shelters, something Prince used to do at concerts. These tributes with the big stars that are performing songs they just can't truly perform in true Prince fashion - these aren't for the fans/fams, these are not a memorial. And we truly need some kind of memorial. [Edited 8/3/16 6:58am]

Lenka Paris puts those nights together and is an AWESOME Princey DJ (my favorite, in fact). She used to spin at Paisley Park from time to time, including at the last celebration. She has a good connection w/the folks at Aloft and they let her use the space to throw Prince parties now and again. It's more about the party than a viewing of the movie. |

You're underestimating the number of worldwide fams that would attend a genuine memorial tribute focused on the musicians, singers and groups that loved him dearly and worked with him. What I have been seeing people post in the past day or so is that the more the tribute focuses on celebrities, the less interested real fams are in attending. I agree. If they need to focus on what artists will be picked up for a TV telecast, then make that a separate TV event not related to this. Film it in a theater or TV studio. Don't do that to our ONE chance to attend a memorial for someone that has been a huge, incredibly important part of our lives. - "Major tribute" by people that didn't really know him and love him? That's not what Prince would have wanted at all. He could care less about celebrity status and how famous people were. - Yes, he believed in encouraging and challenging the next generation of artists, and he wanted to do that with Bruno. I wouldn't mind seeing him do one song. He's very talented, but he's by no means a huge part of Prince's life or Prince's world. The focus should not be on big stars because that's not what Prince would have wanted.

It's a tribute to Prince, not a concert for people who post on the org. ;-) This is what Bruno posted on Instagram after P's passing: [Edited 8/3/16 6:54am] Bruno Mars for sure must have been influenced by Prince. He's funky. How could anyone not be influenced by his genius? I'm fine with bigger acts as long as there are plenty of tickets to go around. That is my only concern. AND ALSO that they stay true to what Prince was all about. I'd love for this to have the feel of a Prince concert. But hard to have that without the main ingredient. I just hope they play some of his lesser known songs mixed with popular ones and maybe each artist could tell a "Prince Story" or memory that hasn't been told before. If it's a memorial, it should include stories as well as music. If these big names just play a song or two that's fine. I just don't want it to turn into an even that the true P fans can't get tickets for if it sells out quick. He had so many die hard fans...I am just thinking of half go to the show, it would sell out in seconds. Anyone know the best way to buy tickets and best way to know the moment they hit the streets? Lol I'd like to at least have a chance. Any suggestions? "Put on your boots Alfred...let's go!"

The focus should not be on big stars because that's not what Prince would have wanted. Ok I never said it should be full of people that didn't really know him or love him. But it's not up to org'ers or die-hard fams to decide who deserves to participate or not. The official statement from Prince's family said: βWe are excited for the opportunity to bring everyone together for the official family celebration of Princeβs life, music and legacy, and there is no better place to do it than his hometown of Minneapolis.β It says "official family celebration". I don't think this was ever billed as a tribute just for die-hard fams. According to the StarTribune members of Prince's bands will be there (Shelby J posted about it on her FB page). There is no way Prince's family could pull something like this off on their own so I'm not surprised they reached out to people who have experience in pulling stuff like this together. Also a lot of people won't be able to come here and tickets will probably sell out fast so getting it online or on TV so more people can see it is a big deal. Again, I'm certainly not pushing for random celebrities that didn't really know P or work with him. But there are a lot of people he did work with and was friends with that would make sense along with artists that were influenced by him. I'd love to see Lenny Kravitz rocking When You Were Mine or maybe Bruno Mars performing with NPG. Get Alicia Keys up there doing How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore. I think it's totally possible to put something together that has enough star power to get it on TV and make it the big event it deserves to be while not completely selling out and just throwing any random celebrity up there. Also lets not forget it's not in LA or NYC. I don't think just any celebrity is going to make the plane ride to Minneapolis. I'm not worried about who's going to be there I'm worried that getting tickets will be difficult because it will sell out so fast. Paisley Park is in your heart

Would love to get any helpful info on this! The more this gets focused on big names, the more people who are not Prince Fams will be trying to get tickets. The stadium should be filled with people who truly love Prince, not fans of other artists...

Guess I wont be going Staples Center Fiasco nightmare all over again! I didnt feel like Prince was gone, but as time goes on If he really is gone, the more that comes out the more I worry (murder) especially with the AEG Randy Phillips, Londel McMillan, and Judith Hill creepy connection.

I know that Esperanza Spalding, Judith Hill, Andy Allo, former band members, Sheila E., etc. may not pack the house and may not get a HBO deal, but that is what Prince would have wanted. He would have cringed at the thought of some of the ideas that are floating around about this, but it is what it is. He is not here and it will be what it will be. That is why I think his true fans need to have some gatherings and events also. This thing is in our hands now. He wanted fans to be more involved as evidenced by the Phase 2 distribution.

You can have people like Esperanza Spalding and some more well known acts at this event. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Outside of that Rolling Stone article what other ideas are floating around? Paisley Park is in your heart

I understand its a lot of tickets to sell and the big names would help it sell out (or help justify higher ticket prices ), but since they do have 2 months to promote this concert, i hope that they will wait a few days after the tickets go on sale before they announce performers like marz or gaga (though i would be elated if stevie will play), so that in case they do sell out fast, it will hopefully be more purple army that get tickets. i mean, this is the first mega purple reunion since p was abducted by aliens or whatever, so i think it should sell well. wonder if they will take any measures to avoid scalping?
