Isn't it wonderful! It's sorely slept on, but musically it's top notch work. I have yet to revisit Chaos and Disorder. I remember trying to listen to it years ago and I couldn't get more than a few tracks in. But who know's maybe I'll like it, I didn't like Come at first either. I agree tho I do recall it being LOUD.

At least Chaos & Disorder didn't * have cuckoo lyrics that ruined the music. Too much rock? I've never heard a fan of Prince say "too much rock" about him. That's like saying that burger has "too much bacon" or I got paid "too much money" or this sundae has "too much whipped cream" or.......

I'm all for the cuckoo lyrics! But agree with this... Chaos & Disorder, too much rock?? Seriously. I savour the moments when Prince chooses to rock out (especially on record).

ive always preferred funk & soul Prince over Rock&Roll Prince...i was one of his black fans who felt like Prince's music was beginning to "sell out" in the mid to late 80s when he became the Purple Rain icon...thats why i love alot of the NPG stuff when P was making a conscious effort to make "black music"

I love Exodus. Still listen to it regularly. I'm actually a bit jealous of you just discovering it, you'll be digging it big time after a couple of listens and buzzing off the segues. In fact I'm going to listen to Mashed Potato Girl now lol

Thanks to Tidal I have just heard snippets of 1999: The New Master EP for the first time.

Talk about pissing all over a Picasso. I bet this got played at exactly zero NYE parties.

I kind of hate that Tidal currently have that exclusivity over the streaming rights, and the sale of some albums. It's far too expensive.

It's expensive because it pays artists what they SHOULD be paid per stream. If you can't afford to pay at the store, you leave empty handed. Same here. Plus it's only $20/mon. It's not a lot.

Prince obviously wanted his catalog to be Tidal exclusive because it was in line with his thoughts on the way the industry should be, you should respect that and respect the rights of other artists like he would want.

How do you figure 20.00 is not a lot? For some of us, it is. Plus- as far as I can tell, if I want to listen to any of this at work or in my car, don't I have to purchase the album since streaming at work is blocked? If I pay 20.00 a month for this and some artist who isn't on Tidal puts something out I want, my 20.00 "fun stuff money" is gone.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Thank you-
I have been to that site a few times and have left completely confused.

I'm just so skeptical of the whole thing. I bought stuff from iTunes that just disappeared and I guess my main thing is, if Tidal goes under for whatever reason and say I paid 20.00 a month for ten months I just dropped 200.00 on nothing.

Believe me, I understand artists deserve to be paid but I don't like the idea they can just shut the site down and it's gone. Perhaps I have other bad experiences with that to sour my taste for it.
Surprise, surprise.

If you've bought it off iTunes, and it's no longer on your computer, you can re-download from iTunes.

Account > Purchased > Not in my library (meaning, not on your computer) > then download the ones that show the cloud icon in the right hand corner -- by clicking on the cloud icon. It's helpful if you accidentally delete things, or if you update iTunes (the program itself) and your library disappears. With Apple, you can pretty much guarantee that during your lifetime, you won't lose what you've purchased. With that said, I have my stuff backed up on two separate offline hard drives. QUALITY hard drives are so cheap (pricewise) these days (compared to 15 years ago).

Also, I'm with you re: $20 a month ($240 a year). For literally nothing. Streaming is just silly. Artists upload their music to youtube where you can stream in high quality. I listen, and then go buy on iTunes or in the store. It's going to suck once physical copies are no longer available. You see artists moving in that direction with USB sticks, bandcamp/soundcloud, etc. Ideally, I could buy the vinyl -- with a CD enclosed. Or like Radiohead where you buy the vinyl directly from them and get a free lossless download. The only thing they are paying for is bandwidth, which is built into the cost you're paying. Or built into the cost of ticket prices. Or merch tables.

But yeah, no $$$ for streaming for me. I'm from the generation where we listened to the radio -- heard something we like -- drove to Tower Records and bought it in the format we preferred at that time. We didn't pay $10 a month to listen to the radio! Pisses me off that I have to watch an hour and half of commercials to watch an 90 minute movie on AMC/TNT/etc -- on top of paying $125 a month to my cable company. It's a racket. Again, when I was a kid, we bought a tv, plugged it in -- and watched TV. That was enough. My Dad would have shot the TV if he had to pay $125 a month to watch it -- AND commercials.

I don't think the tracks are even there anymore. I had Love or Money downloaded and it's gone. I can't find it in the store. I'll have to play around with it.
I also apparently purchased a bunch of stuff with a different iTunes account - I used a yahoo email before the iPhone came out and I switched to an "iCloud" email. I had stuff backed up to DVDs because I don't trust hard drives, well I have to figure a work around for that stuff.

I lost all my ripped CDs when I wiped my hard drive like an idiot. There were maybe 3 official releases I didn't have. GN, Exodus, ... The Rave remixes. Some of that I could restore from CD.

Anyway- I think I am struggling with the digital age a bit. While I think CDs are bulky and resource wasting, digital content seems so- I don't know, easy to "lose". I just broke down and subscribed to Tidal. So thank you for the link. It's cool so far. I found other artists I like too so, I feel better about it. The setup is cumbersome but I suppose I'll get used to it just in time for an update.

I sometimes really miss my 5 cd disc changer. sad also with TIDAL, how do you make mix CDs for people?

Lol right? I got a kid and other assorted "old folks" bills. A subscription to music is another bill. And my pay has stayed the same while the cost of property taxes, music, milk, and candy has all gone up.

lol Or, it is just dumb to spend money on literally nothing.
Not to mention, why support someone who can't stay loyal to Beyonce? Far as I'm concerned, Jay can go fuck himself. He isn't going to miss my $10 a month. I'm supposed to support folks like him and Kanye? falloff Leave that to other folks who don't realize you can still buy music off of Tidal without being a member.

That's like renting furniture -- or a telephone. Folks just don't realize they are literally throwing their money away.

It's not about Jay Z or Kanye or anybody else. Tidal is the only streaming service that even attempts to pay artists their fair share per stream and it offers more than "just streaming". It's the only service that comes close to supporting artists the way they should be.

So cheeky!
lol

I do actually subscribe to Netflix, as £7.49 a month seems reasonable for all the content they offer.

Even Spotify seems too expensive to me.

Why is Netflix cheaper than Spotify? I mean, if you want to make movies and TV shows, they're a lot more expensive to produce than making an album. Anybody can make an album in their bedroom these days, with the technology available. Nobody is making Kimmy Schmidt in their bedroom.

If the artists aren't getting recompensed adequately by Spotify or other streaming services, they should question how much the record companies are pocketing, not moan that subscribers should pay more.

And I did used to subscribe to Spotify, until Prince withdrew his back catalogue from the service. I figured that others might follow suit... I can cope with the annoying adverts after every few songs, for the amount of time I use Spotify now.

I'd subscribe to any music streaming service again if it offered as much value as Netflix does.

And I'll always buy CDs of artists I love, even if I can stream their songs for free.
