I know a good number of people who joined Tidal after Prince died so they could access his music in an official way (which is awesome because theft is shitty). I'm very happy that they'll have a chance to hear some of these more obscure/OOP releases.

That being said, I pray none of them listens to 1999: The New Master. Diehard Prince fans know never to speak of it. But these newbies haven't been warned.

Do you all really think Tidal just ripped some CDs or downloaded some torrents to put up on their service? OF COURSE they had the legal clearance to put up those albums, NPG Records wouldn't have given them to Tidal otherwise. The history has been with Phase One and Two that catalog albums were added to Tidal along with those releases for a bigger splash. It's likely the original plan was to trickle the back catalog out along with new releases (for instance Phase 3 accompanied by Gold and Crystal Ball), but now that there won't be any more true "new" releases from Prince perhaps it was decided they could release them all at once.

In loseless ?

If this is so, why Tidal doesn't promote it that way, to make us trust in their material ?

I did. Bought previous digital only releases in flac (Chocolate Invasion, C-Note, Slaughterhouse, Xpectation), as well as all of the Tidal only single releases. I did it out of fear that they might be pulled and might never have access again. I bought most of the Tidal exclusive singles. I'm not spending $19.79 for one song off of the Purple Rain EP because if it is ever released again, we will get that in a deluxe edition (one would hope).

But yeah, someone needs to take down the 1999 New Master off of Tidal and we need to find a way to scrub it from the internet. It is the "Jughead" of Prince releases. Actually, that's not saying enough. When they are done investigating his death, they should prosecute everyone involved in the making of 1999: The New Master. What in the hell was he thinking? (Other than $$$$$$$, obviously.)

I bet even Rosario Dawson doesn't mention it. Denies being involved. "Oh no, that was another Rosario Dawson." Tony M and Larry on the other hand...

Lossless.

Every single page on their store. You can buy every record in lossless or not lossless format. That's why they don't promote it. Because every single page offers it. Stream in lossless, or stream in not lossless.

This is wonderful. Even the 30 second snippets, but they do offer a free 30 day trial. I wish they sold these albums. They just aren't available anywhere else now.

Maybe in time.

It might not have been Prince's idea, but what a lovely gift to his fans channeled through Tidal.

Tidal and any other streaming service cannot release ANY material without legally binding permission. So there is no way that these are CD-rips, UNLESS that's the way Prince himself sent them over, which is highly unlikely. The entire point of tidal is that they offer music in high fi, or standard hq mp3 depending on what kind of subscription level u have or the option u choose when directly purchasing music.

Nicely done, Tidal. Tomorrow is one day that I hope the commute is at least an hour longer than usual.

Wow that is cool - pity im not a subscriber to the service - but thankfully have all the albums. Something i dont think wouldve happened if P was still with us. Can someone confirm whether erotic city is available on Tidal? Just curious

yeah I have them all but most are in storage after putting them in iTunes, then iTunes went to shit. So many of these, like 1800NEWFUNK, Rave, c&D, etc., I haven't listened to in a while.

Absolutely fantastic! Great to have everything in one place finally! Just 20ten missin

Maybe they're just holding a couple of things back to make a splash further down the road. I'm certain 20Ten will be made available at some point. If they uploaded Exodus then I don't see why not Goldnigga....they're equal parts kickass as well as offensive. Perhaps they will also upload all of the associated artist albums, too.

Great that all of these are added. Like most others here I have all of these but it's so convenient to have it on your phone and other devices and as others have stated you can download for offline listening. Really hoping for the last few albums to go up and more associated artists too. Be interesting if we ever see more details of Prince's deal with them.

The amount of messages I've had from people saying that most of the albums are on Tidal today is brilliant. Let's hope this allows more people to discover Princes discography. And Tidals catalogue for many artists is incomplete so the missing stuff isn't a big deal.

Umm... since it's not Prince that is now getting paid,..... how do you figure that??? And even before that, even if he WAS,.........since he was worth $100 million,.... does it really matter whether he makes a couple of more bucks...?

Please note, I'm NOT condoning piracy, but..... ultimately it's the music that matters, not the money......

(Btw, I cannot buy on Tidal from my country.....)

LOL, well even Purple & Gold is on my iTunes.. did uncheck it though wink

.

Tbh, I don't even think The New Master is that bad as most describe it here.. Of course nowhere, NOWHERE, near the original, but I see it as a fun remix to listen to now and then.. rolleyes

Has anyone heard Jay-z verse on the all the way up remix? He's insinuating that Prince gave them his masters before his death.
