The big question is : was it already schedulmed before Prince's death ? How the hell could they release 15 albums that were on so various record companies ? Prince had the masters of course, but did he gave the loseless tapes to Tidal before he died ?
-- Of course he did how else would Tidal have been able to get a hold of Exodus.
So he gave all the tape of everyone of his albums, but Tidal is releasing them only now ? Does it sound logical to anyone here ? |

Don't you think though if Tidal didn't have a prior agreement with him they'd have to get clearance from somebody/his estate for this, and obviously nothing has been settled on that as yet |

Just an FYI - none of those albums appear in the Tidal Store for purchase, so they must be a streaming exclusive for a while.
And that is the opposite way from the latest tracks released when Prince was alive; the Piano tracks were download first (he said something like "For now, support the artist" on Twitter)
.

Prince probably had a predetermined schedule for how he wanted things released and either today is in line with that schedule OR he didn't have a schedule, but had already cleared certain material for distribution at some point and this is Tidal making an executive decision which legally it seems they are within their rights to do. NOW, it could also be that these 15 albums are ONLY available for today. We'll find out tomorrow :/ "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE |

Yeah, they are kind of weird when it comes to how they have artists/albums layed out. When you search certain artists you get their music AND the music of other artists w/ similar names. The R&B group Switch is an example of this. "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE |

If you offline the albums now, they'll remain in your downloaded albums even if Tidal later removes them. |

Lol seriously? That's a crazy glitch and really bad quality control on Tidal's part. Not that I'm complaining. Lol. So if you offlined Oui Can Luv when it was available you still have it? "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE |

So far, the only things Prince made available through Tidal that haven't been released digitally before are:
Little Red Corvette/Dirty Mind Joy In Repetition SOH Live Black Sweat (Live) God 12" Instrumental (on the Purple Rain EP) -- at the hilarious price of $19.79 for the lossless version If Eye Could Get Ur Attention Pretzelbodylogic Reloaded Free Urself Ruff Enuff (with Mono Neon)
Hopefully there will be more of those kinds of releases, not rehashes that lifelong fans already have.
The brief appearance of "Oui Can Luv", too.
I don't believe that Oui Can Luv was available for purchase. It has been a long time since I've been interested in an associated artist release. I mean, I've bought the ones available for purchase, but haven't listened more than once. I mean, Prince's output for a long time was hit and miss -- so the songs he gave to other artists in the last couple of decades haven't been up to par.
Still, I wouldn't mind hearing it since most of the tracks were covers of other artists.

If I remember correct this is true, as long as you have a subscription and don't log out on your device.
When ruff enuff came out it was instrumental first, which I saved for offline.
When it was replaced by the ' vocal' version i still had the instrumental in my playlist.
Don't know what happens if the release is withdrawn completely though. |

I can't stream in my car or at work which is where I spend most my of my day. I have most of those on CD but they are mysteriously scratched to hell. I really hope all this gets put into a box set but I'm not holding my breath. Surprise, surprise.

Thankfully someone saved the instrumental, because the vocal version just wasn't the same. (Same with Da Bourgeoisie after horns were added. The early version is just better -- and I love Prince's music with horns.)

If they had the rights legally, they would have done it some weeks ago, even before Prince dies.Righ
If this was Prince's schedule (on his birthday?) , they would have advertised it as such, it would have made great publicity, such as "the prince's last gift". |

Do you all really think Tidal just ripped some CDs or downloaded some torrents to put up on their service? OF COURSE they had the legal clearance to put up those albums, NPG Records wouldn't have given them to Tidal otherwise. The history has been with Phase One and Two that catalog albums were added to Tidal along with those releases for a bigger splash. It's likely the original plan was to trickle the back catalog out along with new releases (for instance Phase 3 accompanied by Gold and Crystal Ball), but now that there won't be any more true "new" releases from Prince perhaps it was decided they could release them all at once. |
