Clearly no one can even come close. There's not really even that many artists who I would go see in concert, much less really be amazed by. Prince's concerts were a semi-religious experience, as far as their visceral impact went. There will never be another like him....not for us.

I still have Bruce and to a much lesser extent, Sananda/TTD. Bruce looks to be good for a few more years but he's no Prince and I don't see anyone in that league. D'angelo? no way, I loved how he shat on Prince's music after putting out a couple albums and then when he found out how difficult the business of being a star is, he got fat and sat around for the next ten years.

Damn ok guys i said kinda take his place but i worded wrong, who else is intreasting musically,i know prince was the greatest musician song writer performer ever in my book.he is the reason i taught myselfpiano 21 yrs ago.i juzt cant find anyone to inspire mw to listen long to there music.van hunt deangelo trence trent darby r good not prince. I love him and miss him dearly i thank him for my playing today. And thank uto you guys for being here.it helps.love u all stickman

bruce is still quite capable of giving me chills and the young people can come up with a good song here and there, ttd, well i love him but I haven't heard a song of his I've liked in a long time. Still, good music is good music and it can come from anywhere, but the package we got with Prince won't be repeated. It's like someone said of Jim Brown, "the good lord said 'i'm only going to do this once'". Now, other styles of music, you have people who can compete for productivity as a composer but no one covered as many basis' as our man. You never saw Duke Ellington sing, dance, play multiple instruments and those are the kinds of guys we have to compare Prince to and that's a difficult comparison.

I don't like her as much as D'Angelo and certainly not Prince, but you're talking some crazy shit here. I don't actually care about your opinion though or what you listen to, for starters. St. Vincent is a brilliant musician who can't encapsulate a certain amount of desire in a 14 song, a tune is a piece of a song, a catch, which is and has been her downfall. If I'm to find the interview of her saying what she is working on artistically, she explains it herself. I'll be sure to note you. As for stage presence? Why someone who has no similarity to Prince in terms of stage presence would fill his shoes is absurd. Peace. You're missing the point -- many people here (myself included) are saying NOBODY can fill Prince's shoes BUT here are some other artists that are cool...including St. Vincent. You don't care about my opinion? Well, neat. Here's a cookie, bitch. Nobody cares about your opinion more or less than mine. We're all in here talking about artists we enjoy, and you gotta bust in with your ignorant bullshit about St. Vincent. I bet you're just bothered because she's a woman. Your English isn't the best, so I'm not entirely sure what you're saying about St. Vincent and interviews. If you can't find any good interviews with her, try using Google. There's a shit-ton of interviews. Here is one example. You don't need to like St. Vincent, but if you're going to continue to slam her and talk nonsense about her not being able to write a tune or having no stage presence, then just admit that your hobbies include talking out of your ass. http://www.rollingstone.c...t-20140623 [Edited 5/27/16 17:55pm] "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I know they exist but being a fan of one artist baffles me. There's so much to choose from. Prince was one of my faves and some of my faves are dead (Freddie Mercury/Ronnie James Dio/Marvin Gaye/Michael Jackson/David Bowie/Prince) but I still have Morrissey, Bruce, Elvis Costello and (non-satanic) Black Metal
Plus Prince has a HUGE catalog and a likely huge catalog to be. Prince may end up having the largest released catalog in recorded history if we are to believe he has around 1,000 unreleased tracks. That's 100 frickin' albums worth.

Good point. Now THAT'S someone that knows Prince's catalog. That would've been an amazing tribute. "Chaos & Disorder" came and went faster than The Chevy Chase Show.

all i can tell you guys is that as a role model for a young musician, the hard work, the talent, the passion, the vision, all I can say is I couldn't ask for more. I was so lucky to have michael, bruce and prince. That's the way i see it, who do the kids have today? TI is running around getting in trouble, Beyonce, well, i don't want to start no arguements up in here.

No one, obviously. There will be no one artist to unite all of us in the way that Prince did. But, Prince would probably appreciate if we all go out and find (or continue to support) artists who are truly talented, love music, love to perform, give a great show, do their own thing, and don't compromise themselves. no one can take the place of our man like it was mentioned earlier: no one has his swagger or his rhythm and ryhme no one can touch his mystique or creative output Miguel has even mentioned he thinks no one can do Prince maybe generations will have to pass before anyone comes close cause he was so far ahead of his time

When I was a kid, my dad was a DJ in the mid 70's. He played all types of music in our home all the time. Disco, Pop, R&B, ROCK, Jazz, you name it. That exposure I had to music early on, gave me a love and passion of all styles of music. ROCK,Alterative,GRUNGE,R&B, Funk,Soul,Old School Hip Hop, JAZZ even Country. My music tastes go on and on. That said, as much as I ADORED Prince's music (even during the 80's when my OBSESSION for him was @ an all time high), I wasn't a Prince exclusive listener type of fan. I'm just not that type of music fan for anyone's work. When a musician's work speaks to me, I drink them completely in. Meaning, I find out what artists inspired and moved them musically and I totally engross myself in their journey. It further connects me to the artist's work and as a result my passion and knowledge for music grows again. I've adored the journey I've taken with my music idols discovering new sounds through their ears. And that goes triple for my journey with Prince. He was an asbolute genius, completely ahead of his time. For me, he was the whole musical package. That man was GORGEOUS yes (sorry, I couldn't resist that lol), but so much more to me. He was the only musician I admired who combined all the styles of music I adored. I proud to say, I learned the most about music from Prince. As a fan, I cherich him for that and all the music he gave me. As always, Prince (now more than ever),holds a very special place in my artistic soul. For me, no one will ever replace him. And, I will miss him for the rest of my days.
RIP my dear Prince. Amen. "So here I sit in my lonely room
Lookin' for my sunshine But all I've got is two cigarettes And this broken heart of mine So let the rain come down Let the rain come down Let the rain come down, down"

I would never look for anyone to replace him. Those kind of cars don't pass u every day etc. However, I do like all kinds of music, and there are so many artists and styles to explore. At the moment I'm getting into Nils Fram and Max Richter (brilliant for relaxation in times of stress btw), also Mazzy Star - I initially discovered all these via Jarvis Cocker"s excellent radio show, which will be back on air in the UK in the autumn. I like to keep my ears open for anyone new coming along, I get different things from different artists and so on. I think Prince would want people to be open to new performers and all kinds of music. But it's not easy right now, his loss is so huge etc., so I do undestand the question.

Prince's place can never really be filled. I will continue to seek out and explore innovative artists who demonstrate high musicianship, but Prince is irreplaceable. He was music incarnate. It will be a few generations before the world sees anything like that again. And it wasn't just his music, it was the unfettered and pure manner in which he poured out his spirit, warts and all. I never really considered him all that private, honestly. We learned more about Prince's evolution as a musician and as a spirit than we do most artists just by listening to him. He lived his Maker's design impeccably.
