At best, D'Angelo.

And other undiscovered talents of my generation.

Surprised people are saying St. Vincent, I know she has talent but not comparable to Prince by any scale, nor can she put on a show, nor write a tune for her life at this time. Great artist but no similarity at all.

No....just no. For starters, I don't even want to admit to myself that he is gone yet. Secondly, no one can ever take his place. He is multi-faceted as an artist and as a man. No one could contain all that Prince contains, and for me, with Prince, it is the whole package. It is the grace of his hands, the depth of his voice, those incredible eyes, the sense of humor, the artistic beauty of his words and his music, the depth of his soul. No one can touch any of that, so no one can EVER take his place.

I watched Santana on YouTube last nite and he did a tribute to Prince. He performed Last December and his guitar sounded so good. Made me sad because he pretty much nailed it. There can never be another Prince or one who could fill his shoes. But as far as the guitar goes, Santana took me to another place with Last December. I still mourn...

I think it was the Rolling Stone 1985 interview where Prince mentions Santana as more of an influence than Hendrix because Santana played pretty like him while Hendrix had more of a blues sound

I just read the whole thread and I'm actually shocked people had the liberty to even mention St. Vincent. I won't comment as I wouldn't insult her talent. But in no way at all does she represent anything of Prince or what he was capable of. Nothing at all, and hats okay because she has good songs of her pwnZ but she would never, ever be anything like Prince. Not in the slightest, nor can she do a good show live.

Also, Mr. Santana was one of Prince's heroes and you can decipher that just by his guitar solos that he would do live on "Let's Go Crazy". However, Santana can't fill Prince's void because he's the original. That's almost, and actually is, like us saying Stevie can fill our Prince void. They came first and shaped Prince's ear, so no one quite can. I do think D'Angelo is capable musically, in terms of showmanship, not in his prime anymore so it's not capable, but definitely musically, Prince gave him the torch. Everything he does, reflects Prince.

Carlos Santana is the person that I wanted to do the Prince tribute. Notice how thoughtful his song choice of Last December is. cool

No one can replace Prince and I do not want anyone to do so. He was unique. I can still listen to his music and watch the vids of his live performances.. Before April I listened to other music and went to other concerts and I will continue to do so. My concert world is a littler emptier without P but not my music world.

That was a great choice and took me by surprise.

All of you are overlooking the obvious answer to this poor soul's question. We need a Supergroup made up of George Clinton, D'Angelo, Bootsy, Patti Labelle, Sly, Maceo, Alicia Keys, Santana, Bernie Worrell, Sheila E., Questlove and Fred Wesley. Then, and maybe only then, will we get something that comes close to approximating someone like Prince.

That was funny because it was obvious that he is well acquainted with the song. I didn't think much of it in lieu of the fact that Prince himself had his own song lyrics handy at his shows. lol

Anyway, this is my opinion of how to do a tribute and I was so glad that Carlos did not choose the usual songs that everybody else is doing. The lyrics of this song make his tribute more meaningful to me.....

Lana del Rey is the artist I've listened to almost every day for more than four years. So in some way, she has taken the place Prince used to have in my life.

Nah, not overlooking.

I love every one of them but even all of them put together cannot not equal the extraordinary phenomenon that was Mr. Nelson.....no sir.

I agree 100% that nobody can ever replace Prince (or Bowie, my other favorite...fuck 2016 right in the ear!). But there are other artists who hit sort of the same note with me. Artists I want to follow on a journey, rather than just "oh look another album yippee." Some of them include: St. Vincent, D'Angelo, Van Hunt, Radiohead, The Antlers, and Bilal. You could add them all up and I still would like Prince more. But that doesn't mean that their music doesn't still bring me a ton of joy.

I second that Van Hunt!!! He is a good performer. He caught my attention years ago at show at the Roxy.

NO ONE. Maybe you need someone to take his place in your life. But I don't. What is this obsession with people always wanting someone to fill someone else's shoes or "pass the torch" all the time? "Take his place" my behind. For me, no one ever will... heart
I mean I do like other artists but he doesn't need to be replaced for me. Never ever ever!!!How could you replace some1 you love?

fuggedaboutit, Prince was a true freak of nature. don't listen to the naysayers. No one worked like that man in this field of pop music, no one. You'd have to go to edison or beethoven and mozart to find genius' that are comparable. People can say Marvin, Elvis, Michael or whoever but all those guys were crippled by their own neurosis' and personal issues in ways that stunted their growth. Prince wore his little ass out for us and we'll never see another.

You're fucking nuts. St. Vincent puts on a great show. I thought she was fantastic live. And not being able to write a tune? Clean your ears.

I don't like her as much as D'Angelo and certainly not Prince, but you're talking some crazy shit here.

These r huge shoes 2 fill but we need someone to dig musically ,is it van hunt? he is a little mysterious and his music is often different from mainstream but my problem with him is, he does not get down right funky. Who do u guys think.

Replacing Prince? Ok, 1st off, that's utterly an absolute impossible task to pull off. Why? Because Prince was a complete original and genius in every way. And lastly, why the HECK would any Prince fan feel the need to attempt such a thing?

I don't actually care about your opinion though or what you listen to, for starters. St. Vincent is a brilliant musician who can't encapsulate a certain amount of desire in a 14 song, a tune is a piece of a song, a catch, which is and has been her downfall. If I'm to find the interview of her saying what she is working on artistically, she explains it herself. I'll be sure to note you. As for stage presence? Why someone who has no similarity to Prince in terms of stage presence would fill his shoes is absurd. Peace.
