Sorry friend... You'll have to bleed out like the rest of us.

There just isn't anyone that can take his place.

But check out St Vincent. Definitely inspired by Prince and Bowie. Watch her videos. She is crazy on guitar.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Nobody , no one else moves me music wise. Only Prince does. Cocteau Twins music means a lot to me because they were my mums favs.

I agree - this is horrible, nobody can replace Prince - the same as nobody can replace anyone you love - period.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Nobody. Everything is too different, the age of self-made superstars is over. it doesn't even make sense to consider it.

I'm a huge fan of a million modern bands and artists, many of them scratch an itch that Prince never came close to but none of them could do what he did.

St Vincent is great, seen her live loads of times, she isn't a patch on Prince overall though. It's a different world. Same for, say, Janelle Monae or whoever you feel like bringing up.

Currently, no one that I can of think of, but it's going to have to take someone that is extremely talented and extremely disciplined. You tend to get extremely talented individuals who aren't as disciplined or you tend to get extremely disciplined individuals who aren't as talented. Rarely do you get both and with an added appeal and charisma that translates onstage.

Why doomed? You really think no more Prince music will ever be released? While his death eats at my soul, I do take comfort (although I'm cautious at this point) in the fact that there will be new/unheard Prince music released in the future, for quite a while.

As far as anyone taking his place - how is that even a question? Ask an Elvis fan that, or a Beatles fan.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I didn't know where to post this, anyway I'll post it here:

21 nights - london
September 16 2007

"I'm 10, and I hadn't been to a rock concert before. When it started, there was a girl singing, and that was a waste of time. But, when Prince came on, it was like a miracle - like an angel coming down from the heavens. It was explosive."

There are so, so, so many unheard Prince songs. We still have plenty of new Prince aural experiences that will come our way.

There was nobody like Prince and there never will be again. That's part of the grief. The void he has left is truly huge, because he created a whole world through music and now it's as if our whole world has lost it's soul.

But it's up to us collectively to pick up the pieces and create our own worlds through whatever we do. Imagine if every single Prince fan in the world did something that made an impact on even just another 10 people. Through music, art, writing, or just being very, very good at whatever it is that you do, your hobbies or your work. More than anything, Prince demanded excellence and proved that anyone is capable of it. I always remember Jimmy Jam's story about how Prince would have him playing keys with both hands, doing choreography and singing a vocal part too. We all should strive to that level of improvement.

I agree. Nobody has nothing on Prince, that is for sure. St V is still fairly young though. Definitely one to watch.

But I know nothing matched Prince. I won't even try. I just not so patiently wait for "new old stuff" ... I had never heard Beautiful Strange before a few weeks ago and I really treasure that "new to me song".

And we can all enjoy Phase2 for at least a year before we really feel that no new music void.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

I agree 100% that nobody can ever replace Prince (or Bowie, my other favorite...fuck 2016 right in the ear!). But there are other artists who hit sort of the same note with me. Artists I want to follow on a journey, rather than just "oh look another album yippee." Some of them include: St. Vincent, D'Angelo, Van Hunt, Radiohead, The Antlers, and Bilal. You could add them all up and I still would like Prince more. But that doesn't mean that their music doesn't still bring me a ton of joy.

no one.
We just have to appreciate other artists/musicians/entertainers for who they are, the ones we like.
I've always had other people I was into. I was always a HUGE jazz fan and there are and always have been very non mainstream non commercial stuff happening in the musical culture. A bunch of Jazz festivals coming up and those are vacations for me.

In 14 minutes? That's a spectacular way to miss out on a lot of great artists.
