You'll find people on ebay calling bootlegs "promos." Neither The Chocolate Invasion or Slaughterhouse were ever released on CD. They were downloads only from the NPGMC and are available now in (supposed) lossless quality on Tidal. Same goes for Xpectation and C-Note.

See princvault.com and discogs.com if you need further verification.

IMHO ....wish people would stop supporting Tidal...

Well, who knows what's going on with the estate. I felt it would be better to get the exclusives -- rather than see the estate pull everything on Tidal. I am not a member of the site. Paying to listen to the radio is stupid. If I like a record, I'll buy it.

Well for some reason you're not listing the two MOST valuable CD's

eek eek eek eek eek eek eek

#2: "My Name Was Prince" - Japanese release (Easily goes for $2,000 and up)

#1: "Black Album" Long Box, 1987 (Only 20 copies known to exist) (Last one I know about sold for $30,000 - still sealed)

For the rest you're mentioning: BEWARE of fakes. Lots of them around.

For example: GOLD NIGGA (16 track) is heavily bootlegged and portrayed to be "Canada release". It's fake (Although the original actually WAS printed in Canada but it doesn't say so on the CD or Cover)

cool

We covered My Name Was Prince. As for the original Black Album (no matter the format/condition), it is not as rare as "The Future" US promo CD single. Nothing is.

Wow eek eek eek eek eek eek

So you're saying I can sell my US promo CD single for more than $30,000 ???? razz

You seem to not understand that the price is not only about scarcity or not. I will collect ANYTHING with Prince but I would pay a lot more for an original Long Box Black Album than for a promo - which btw never went for more than $200 as far as I know. And there's a lot more of them than 5 copies. Unless of course I know where 40% of them are cool

Ohh let's see: It turns out tomorrow morning that by some miracle all copies but 15 of 20Ten disappeared from Earth. I still wouldn't pay a lot for it. lol

Good luck on selling The Black Album anymore for $30K. Even after he passed away, nobody's buying something for $30K that is available otherwise.

Same could be said for The Future (being available otherwise). I'm talking about rare/most expensive. Nobody on this forum has that promo CD single -- nobody on this forum has ever seen one on ebay. I've known of ONE copy of it since the 90s. Unlike every other CD mentioned in this thread, where we've seen them repeatedly on ebay. (Some more than others -- such as The Black Album.)

As for 20Ten -- as horrible as that record is -- you're in the minority when it comes to Prince collectors. If it is something they don't have, they'll pay for it. That's how I was -- until around 1999 when the debacle Rave was released. I stopped buying everything that was available. (Meaning anything that was put out on CD -- promotionally speaking)

We simply can agree to disagree about the rarity of "The Future." But if you can find more than one person that owns it (not the person on discogs -- who claims he has it -- I'll be shocked.

Well I will buy almost anything .... just not for any price. Of course in my thought experiment above I assumed I would still have one of the 15 left in the world razz cool

It's funny how people come to those numbers. Whether it be 5 of "The Future" or 15 of the Black Album still in the longbox. They weren't numbered, so how could anyone possibly know. (Regardless of what's been said by anyone.)

At least with copies of the White and Grey marbled "Black Album" vinyl in 1994, they were numbered. Which is why those go for crazy prices as well.

Apologies - didn't notice the link on one of the other pages while skimming..

..and not sure why it's a 'lol' that i asked that. Just asked a simple question in regards to a promo i'd never seen/heard of.. thought this was a place for discussion/learning instead of competition of who knows the most/least. anyway... happy thursday.

.

.Edit - sorry if that seems a bit snarky, just had a few people on here make piss taking replies, not sure why that happens to be honest.

I lol'd because everyone who was a big fan in the 80s/90s has that CD single in their collection. Because when that CD came out, there were no torrents. The only way you could hear that is if your friend bought it -- or you did. There was no internet. So you couldn't even come to the org to find out if it was worth buying. So us crazy fans who had to have everything Prince, bought the CD single for about $10-$12 in the import CD single section at Tower Records. Back then, it was easy to be a fan. So little was ever released commercially that it wasn't a big deal to spend $12 on a CD single. You can still find it for dirt cheap on ebay.

Nothing to do with who asked the question, I just thought it was funny. No harm, no foul. It's not like you were asking if he died of a terminal illness. Tired of that shit on this site.

Picked that up a couple of years ago. It was before I had a car. Instead of wait a couple of days for it to ship, I took a bus to go get it. I think it was 6 hours roundtrip. But I finally had something I'd been wanting since first reading about it in Billboard -- or Rolling Stone. I don't remember.

OUCH - TGE...best hang on to mine for a bit longer!

Nope. If you need the money, sell it. Warner is releasing tGE later this year. You can buy it again then. May even be remastered.

With that said, I have 4 different versions of tGE in my collection.

BS. What is your source ?

So far, these have already been announced. I don't know if these were approved by Prince before he passed -- but I am assuming they were since For You came out so close to his passing.

With his passing, it only makes sense for WB to do their due diligence and try and put out every record he released under the WB label on vinyl. Do CDs not get a simultaneous release? Are there potential rights issues re: TMBGITW keeping tGE from being re-released? Possibly. But I have to believe that WB will contact the estate to try to release as much as possible to capitalize on his passing. For me, that would include tGE -- as well as remastering his catalog. Just as Columbia, etc. do every so often with huge Miles Davis releases/collections/box sets.

But you're right, I was under the assumption that it had been announced (since Come & The Black Album and all the other records that have been.) tGE had to be a bigger seller than either of those records for WB. So perhaps it's a rights issue re: TMBGITW. Who knows.

I'm trying to complete my vinyl collection with "The Rainbow Children". It's always been exorbitantly expensive.

I bought it for 25$ when it came out

I'll give you $50 for it! Double your money!

I have the most expensive CD of them all. Only few people will appreciate it's value. The CD is called 'Purple Rain' and I value it at 1.7 millionkazillion dollars. Interested? Just send me an org note... lol

But seriously, prices are idiotic. People can and will ask any price, but I wonder if and why people would pay that kind of money.

So my question is: Did you buy some of these "obscure" releases because you really liked the music? Or is it more or less to just add to a collection?? For me I can't see aquiring music you don't like, or are never going to listen to. But then again I'm not a serious collector of anything, and even being a loyal fan I still don't feel motivated to buy stuff I don't like. But after reading this thread I'm wondering if I'm the odd one. I must be missing the point.

Well in my case these were Madhouse on CD which at the time I knew was a rare find but I also wanted them because I just dug the music. I mean cmon "Four" is the bomb off of Madhouse 8.
