Underrated slow jam: Man O War His lead guitar playing is ON POINT, the horns and the piano compliment eachother beautifully and his vocal delivery is so nuanced and sincere. When I listen to Man O War it feels so evocative... the whole vibe of this track just sums up his feeling of despondancy and melancholly, which I'm sure anybody who has experienced the breakdown of a relationship can relate to. I agree with your assessment...It's really is an incredible song. If I recall, you are a big fan of the Rave album, I am too!

Who is underrating all these songs? I have always thought this to be a very strong song personally. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

This was the only song I was obsessed with when the album came out. Great vocals. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

That is astounding to me. I have found a lot of the haters seem to only listen to a song once before they start hatin, only to come back after a few listens to give it praise. Every song should be listened to a few times and assimilated properly before a real judgement can be made imo, not just Prince songs, any songs. So many times I used to hear a new Prince song and didn't fully appreciate it until many rotations later. A lot of work goes into a song and it takes a while to fully feel the depth or levels it has.

This topic made me listen to it again, it's one of those tracks I had "forgotten". But it's beautiful indeed!

I can't stand the song, honestly. "Why you screamin'? You know I'm not a man of war."

Because Rave is one of my least favorite Prince albums, I haven't listened to any songs from it in years.
Despite this, the melody of Man O' War comes up in the jukebox of my mind frequently. Three times this week alone.
