I'm trying to complete my vinyl collection with "The Rainbow Children". It's always been exorbitantly expensive.

I scored a sealed copy at Amoeba for $150 a couple of years ago. Almost didn't buy it because I'm not a fan of the lack of lyrical content, and $150 is not cheap.

Now I could sell it for a lot, but what's the point. Someday I'll unwrap it and give it a spin.

I'm amazed how much people are playing for bootlegs. From Apollonia 6 to NPGMC.

I would have thought the hardest genuine CDs to track down at the moment would be:

51 Hours

Undertaker

Goldnigga (extra track)

The War

Peace Single

Then it might be the likes of:

Apollonia

Madhouse longboxes

ATWIAD Longbox

Vanity 6

The Truth Single

and of course various promos (real ones that is).

Not sure there's a 51 Hours on CD.

I wouldn't mind getting rid of 90% of my boots, but I couldn't do that to other fans.

Thats not a bad idea! I've got boxes of stuff. It wouldn't be hurting fans, as fans should know its a boot.

There were boots of Apollonia 6 going for over 100. I can't believe people can spend that sort of money without a bit of research.

How about Daisy Chain cd single? think this was only sold at two or three concerts? It is official (IIRC there are three of them?)

A copy of the Thunderball boot of Dream Factory currently has a top bid of just under £300...?!?

I vowed not to sell any of my Prince stuff and that's how it's staying. But some of these prices are crazy. The interesting thing is that I'm seeing true rarities (not a CD, but the 12" promo with 10 minute version of "Gett Off", for example) going for about the same as they've done in the past few years.

So long as you don't sell any releases that were Free to begin with, I don't see the problem in selling bootlegs.

I made an extraordinary amount of money a few years back selling my old Sabotage bootlegs on ebay after I went digital.

Yes, The Daisy Chain, Peace and Supercute. IIRC Peace is the rarest.

i did c two of those were promo from NPG...

You'll find people on ebay calling bootlegs "promos." Neither The Chocolate Invasion or Slaughterhouse were ever released on CD. They were downloads only from the NPGMC and are available now in (supposed) lossless quality on Tidal. Same goes for Xpectation and C-Note.

See princvault.com and discogs.com if you need further verification.

None of those are rare or expensive apart from the Undertake CD.

A lot of the CD single promos are rare and expensive as they had limited runs.

One of My favourites in my collection is the Man O War CD promo.

The official 16-track Gold Nigga CD has always been expensive. I know because I sold my 15-track edition years ago with the intent to buy the 16-track version at a later date if the price was right. It never was. Every one I found sold for at least $200.

Maybe he already had "The Truth" -- or is going to pick that up later. I've seen a lot of that lately. People selling just the disc. You just never know. With that said, I expect that "Crystal Ball" 4CD version will be reissued soon through the estate. Even if they have to license it through WB. Not sure how those rights go though. Might be more difficult than I assume, due to all of the people that will need to be paid, have the rights, etc.

Yup already have The Truth. I have my old crystall ball cd set but the case is damaged. great bargain for me.

I think the best song on all of those albums is "PrettyMan"

Can't stop laughing every time he sings, "When ain't nobody around...I smell myself!"

I adore his silly side coupled with great funk

Well for some reason you're not listing the two MOST valuable CD's

eek eek eek eek eek eek eek

#2: "My Name Was Prince" - Japanese release (Easily goes for $2,000 and up)

#1: "Black Album" Long Box, 1987 (Only 20 copies known to exist) (Last one I know about sold for $30,000 - still sealed)

For the rest you're mentioning: BEWARE of fakes. Lots of them around.

For example: GOLD NIGGA (16 track) is heavily bootlegged and portrayed to be "Canada release". It's fake (Although the original actually WAS printed in Canada but it doesn't say so on the CD or Cover)

cool

So my question is: Did you buy some of these "obscure" releases because you really liked the music? Or is it more or less to just add to a collection?? For me I can't see aquiring music you don't like, or are never going to listen to. But then again I'm not a serious collector of anything, and even being a loyal fan I still don't feel motivated to buy stuff I don't like. But after reading this thread I'm wondering if I'm the odd one. I must be missing the point.

Years ago I hunted down some of these at my local record stores in the SF Bay Area. They were all interesting to listen to, but I didn't keep all of them. I felt like the best versions were the live stuff on "One Night Alone..." and bootlegs.

I still have some rarities that I could sell right now for a big profit, but it just seems wrong to me. I know it sounds silly to some, but Prince was like a close friend that was there for me through all the tough times in life.

So when he dies I just sell stuff he made to make a few extra $$$? no no no!

To answer your question:

I love the music. However, much of the music on these releases are the same. eek

I COLLECT music, magazines, memorabilia, etc with Prince because I love his music and now I am an avid collector. I even collect all the live recordings and studio outtakes I can get my hands on. smile Original recordings preferred but I take any bootleg too. cool

Anything else in regards to Prince? Count me in (Heck I even have some of the Purple Rain condoms (unused)) wink

Do you think I am the odd one then?
