I missed the Maxwell performance.. hopefully it appears online soon.
It will. And if you have a DVR, it's going to air again directly after the aftershow. I think 12:40am...

I put down all 20 of my open tabs and my phone and my ice cream and my diet coke when Jesse started talking. Amazing, inspirational speech. |

As far as the Prince tribute goes; I think you just got to get the right people. To be honest, the best tribute could be Lenny Kravitz doing "Let's Go Crazy" with The Revolution backing him. And then somebody like Usher singing "The Beautiful Ones". Probably could have the New Power Generation do "Diamond & Pearls" and The Time could do something pre-1999 or even Little Red Corvetter with Dez Dickerson doing the solo. And then maybe have somebody sing "Adore" like Alicia or again Usher, somebody that could hit those notes and sound as close to him as possible on that song. And just do it throughout the show.
But again, I think the BEST tribute would be Lenny Kravitz doing "Let's Go Crazy" with The Revolution backing him, The Time doing "Little Red Covette" with Dez doing his solo and then maybe have Usher sing "Adore". And of course, NPG doing "Diamond & Pear;s".
If this was an after party, I would recommend Rashaan Patterson to do "Breakfast Can Wait".
Or get Lenny up there doing When You Were Mine or Dirty Mind.
Hmm, maybe Dirty Mind but I think that Lenny could really pull off the vocal techniques of Let's Go Crazy and of course the guitar solo.
That's one of the reasons people are getting upset about these tributes like for an artist like Prince; his vocals were just as important as his playing ability in these songs. I think people forget that Prince was helluva singer!

Exactly. It's an heartfelt tribute. Some people want it to be an historical reenactment. We're getting performers who were influenced or touched by his music, it's not yet time for Princemania, the br0adway show.
right. prince would be proud |

Apparently your choices for background effects at the BET awards are (1) fire, (2) fire or (3) fire. (Beyonce gets whatever she wants.) |

Ok, checked back in after watching Game of Thrones season finale. Stevie Wonder & Tori Kelly were ok. They did the best they could...but Jennifer...lawd I was fighting tears, especially with her vocals and seeing P's pics strolling. She killed it. Maxwell, oh God...he sung Nothing Compared 2 U better than Lake By the Ocean!!!! Maxwell was up there preaching!!!! Yeah, these Prince tributes kicks Billboard's ass!! I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince. |

I think it would be great if Spike could do about 5 or 6 parts. He would be good at it.
And I think he would include a lot of those "misconceptions" of Prince that casual fans and even some fans on this board still think about Prince.
C'mon. It wouldn't be a Prince doc unless it had SE7EN parts.
No need to be clever with the response. Personally, I don't care if it runs over the course of 17 Days, just as long as it's good.
Shoot, Spike could do it in 5 or 6 parts and it would be good. |

While sitting here watching this does anyone else feel like this isn't a proper tribute? I mean Badu, was the best, Stevie poor guy is in pain, but he tried, and everyone else has put in a valiant effort, but to make us watch the whole show so they can get the ratings? Anyone else feel this?
This! I'm waiting for someone to get up and speak about the man they knew and loved. So far all the performances have left me a bit cold.
Shelia needs to close this mother out right and make them all recognize. |

I was just listening to the Oakland P&M shows today. That voice. And those piano chops. I'm not sure anyone could do his guitar playing justice but for sure someone could get up there and do a proper vocal and piano tribute. Paisley Park is in your heart

Right, he would be.
I remember back in 2010 when so many "fans" on Facebook was talking about the tribute but Prince almost started crying when he did his acceptance speech. He was touched.
This ain't really about us, it's about him. |
