The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

Screaming does not equal singing.

Wasn't as bad as the version she did on Broadway. But still you lose a lot of the soul with all that screaming.

The only true "Prince" Tribute was from Sheila E and gang. Everyone else, except the guitar solo, was OVER done and poorly.

While sitting here watching this does anyone else feel like this isn't a proper tribute? I mean Badu, was the best, Stevie poor guy is in pain, but he tried, and everyone else has put in a valiant effort, but to make us watch the whole show so they can get the ratings? Anyone else feel this?

It w sad It was ALL hype to get everyone to watch the entire show and it wasn't worthy of him except the end with Sheila E, Mayte, Jerome and the roots. No matter what anyone thinks, everyone way over sang or was over dramatic and it lost it's effect. Of course it's my opinion only and that isn't all that important.

Stop with the mud slinging. Stop with the race card, and all the wounds that get opened up discussing race. This is not the forum or the thread for discussing such things.

You want to discuss black issues..... save it for politics and religion forum, by all means go and start a thread over there and save your rants and bickering. And don't feed the trolls!

This thread is the tribute thread, discuss the tribute put on by BET, Sheila E, the twinz, Shelby J, etc..... don't let this thread get derailed. smh at the behaviour of some folks.

Is this how you really honour this man???

lurking Keep it civil and stay on topic. Further action will be taken.

It's funny the moments that make you emotional.

**

I had various moments that got to me, but at the very end when the purple flower-petal confetti came down I just .... it killed me. Killed. It reminded me how when he would end the PR-era shows with Purple Rain and there was that loooooong denouement after he left the stage where the music was still playing, softly, on loop (the final strains of Purple Rain) and there was confetti and sparkly lights like stars and you had just had this BIG experience and was it over, or was there more? Where was he? Where the hell was he from, was he even human, and how did he make me just feel that way? How is this moment encapsulating my whole life, and where my life is going (how I felt when I was a teenager watching this happen) and now how I feel about where my life has been (now that I'm a middle-aged person)?

**

So much of his music is literally the sound of yearning, and now that yearning feels so different because it's yearning that can never be remedied, because he's gone.

You captured the emotions we all feel so beautifully. Yes his music captured yearning, and now we yearn for him. I still cry thinking of him. So sad that he was in so much pain. He gave us so much and enlightened us in so many ways. God Bless his soul!

Thank you for posting this. Sheila did such a great job. I was so happy to see Mayte onstage. I have been searching for a link that features Mayte dancing during this performance but haven't been able to find one. Does anyone have a link to that? Thanks!

Just watched Sheila E. Wow. Amazing. You could feel the LOVE. You could feel his presence. She totally nailed that tribute.
Seeing Mayte up there was quite moving also. I don't care what people say, she was his wife, the mother of his unfortunately dead child, so yes, it made a lot of sense. Plus, Sheila invited her, so she should know.
This felt like closure for me. Thank you.

I was so happy to see Mayte on stage too. It felt so right - like all his family was around him, honoring him and loving him. I hope Sheila takes all of these wonderful artists on a tour to celebrate Prince -- and have Mayte on stage with them -- as well as anyone who was associated with Prince. God Bless his Soul!

Sheila did a great job. Crap like this just makes me miss him more though. It's like he left us with all these people that are not even 1/4 the talent of him. The blue cloud at the end was great to see too. I wonder where that one is stored. For that matter, I wonder who gets all of his guitars.
