She tried. But if they were going to do the crowd singalong bit, ask Wendy and Lisa and Sheila to play and just let the crowd sing Prince's lines on PR. The outfit looked good. Prince would have liked the outfit.

I was thinking the same thing. By the way I don't know if anyone noticed, but behind Rihanna was Stephen Hill from BET. Maybe after watching this horrendous performance, he will come up with MUCH better performers for a tribute at the BET awards next month. [Edited 5/22/16 20:33pm]

I thought there would be more to the tribute. I liked Madonna's outfit though. It was very Princey. The choice of song, Nothing Comapres to You, was appropriate. Judging by the display of "talent" during the awards ceremony itself, nothing compares to the raw talent that Prince had. Overall, I was disappointed in the lack of substance to the tribute.

Naw. I wasn't feeling the cemetary photos. Matter of fact I was up in here like 'what dafuq?!?' during the who headstones montage. But when they showed that first photo of him from '80-'81, that's when the waterworks came on in a rush. Thought I was done crying, but NOPE. Started crying my eyes out during the montage with all the photos of him.

Okay, but what stage designer google image searched "cemetary" "death" "gothic font" before putting together that power point presentation in the background?

All snark aside, Questlove was clearly coming from the heart. (And we all know how Stevie feels about this. I'm sure he can't say "no" to anything Prince related right now)

So critical we are. Sure I can think of a lot of people that I would have preferred to see perform a tribute. But Madonna is a contemporary of his. And I can appretiate her doing it. Purple suit, cane I actually thought was pretty cool. Madonna has never been strong vocally but at least she didn't use pre-recorded vocals. Which is totally acceptable at the billboard awards apparently. It was much better then i imagined. I have always respected her work ethic. What came easy to Prince, being a great performer, Madonna worked very hard to obtain. There will be more tributes to come on better award shows. The Grammy's have a lot of time to work on a tribute.

Any thoughts on Kesha singing "It Ain't Me Babe" with Ben Folds on piano? I thought it was nicely done. .

This right here! Love that BET released this right afterwards with that quote! Hilarious!!! BET is gonna show BBMA how a real tribute is done! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Madonna is considered the high priestess in the music industry which explains her relevance to BB. I could critique her performance but dont want to spend much time on her irrelevance from a personal standpoint. The graveyard in the background was distasteful especially when they could've flooded the screens with his "through the years" photos since he was one of the most photographed superstars. The Weeknd's acknowledgement and dedication was better than Prince's tribute; however, I was pretty much a pool of tears so I will have to watch it again. I'm sure that the BET Awards will pay homage quite respectful. Prince 4ever in my life

Not bad, not great. But, this has to be said. Stevie sounds horrible these days!! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

. Yes pure genius and definitely makes me want to watch. As Dave Chapelle said, Prince's death is the "black 9/11", so you know it's going to be a good tribute if they have anyone with a brain and some talent producing it.
