If it is confirmed than someone needs to let them know, cause Morris is posting numerous times a day pics of Prince and footage and mentioned the London Show but nothing about BET.

GottaLetitgo

Well, I cried. I knew I would, once the pictures came on, all four of them, that was enough. I have seen so many damn "In Memoriam" segments in my life but this is way too soon for this one. But I think between Madonna's vocal limitations, the insensitive and weird cemetary pictures, and the unbelievable 2 hour and 50 minute setup (well several weeks plus 2 hour and 50 minute setup) it was not the tribute we had hoped. Why not have the tribute in the middle, have one less current tool perform and squeeze in a good 15 or 20 minute segment. I know, it's about ratings and they were probably afraid all the Beliebers would riot but it seemed to be a tacked on 10 minute segment with no real value statement as to why the guy was so important to all those musicians in the room. The Weeknd said more in his speech at the beginning, there was more heartfelt sentiment but also more of why Prince was relevant. Nick Jonas is a Prince fanatic, would have been nice to see him included. Seal could have torn up "Nothing Compares 2 U". Rihanna? Justin Timberlake? To have them speak on how much Prince was an influence to them...just seems like a missed opportunity. But all the purple, the purple throne, the 4 pictures...waterworks. The segment won the battle and lost the war.

All good things they say never last...

Yeah I haven't heard anything either. I believe these purple band members are working on an individual Prince tribute that is all about him. Not at some award show. I think fans are putting to much hope in these award show tributes.

Two issues: 1. He hated the Sinead O'Connor version and she did it anyway. 2. He no longer believed in crosses and she wore crosses as part as her outfit. I question how much she "knew" Prince given that she did those two things. Perhaps she knew him once before, but anyone that is close to him would no not to do either of those two things. I think bashing her performance because of her talent is unfair. She is who she is and we knew she was not going to be Esperanza Spalding up there. She did her best. But, she should have done her research.

Just because he didn't wear crosses doesn't mean she would stop if it means something to her. I think people are making way to much of this.

Yeah that was what I was mentioning the religious stuff needed to be left out when that stuff was playing behind her I was thinking WHO was in charge of picking that??? Her the network etc..then it went away and you had his photos which should have played straight through her performance. Also I cant knock the talent or the voice, that is Madonna and you know her range etc... Fdeluxe (The family) reposted their video of the performance they did for PRINCE as a tribute, which was beautiful, with Paul and Susannah. But award shows are not going to do their homework, lets be real, like PRINCE always said, these cats came from law and accounting, what do they know about music and performing.

We all want something but the reality is they are not gonna cater to us wanting to see Shelia, Judith Hill, Andy Allo, 3rd eye girl, the family, the time etc....For one they will most likely give it a 10 minute slot, and to have 8-9 different performers crammed in is not going to work or happen. I think the grammys will (if ) they remember in 10 months, do a tribute of some sort but I have an odd feeling we may get Beyonce and Alicia and others not Shelia and others.

I agree.
I hope in the coming months the real purple soldiers start making some musical revolutions and maybe by the time of the grammy's people see who needs to be on the show.

Well, at least it will be band members, childhood friends, etc., that spent years and hours working with him.

Is this something that is confirmed?

No, I was responding to LBC's wish list, as like others, as to who some of us would like to see as part of BET's tribute. I'd actually would like to hear some of his childhood friends/band members speak about their friendship with him during his early/younger years, like Morris D., Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis,

As Questlove said, there are going to be a slew of tributes. I doubt any music awards show in 2016/early 2017 will overlook a Prince tribute.

I am holding out hope for BET and the Grammys to have bang-up performances, but also the Academy Awards since Prince himself is an Academy Award winner for music. For that show, I envision a career-spanning montage . . . even just a minute long if it's done right.

NAACP, Soul Train, MTV Video Awards, Trumpet Awards. Hell maybe even the ESPYS. He's been seen at many NBA games, and was a basketball fan.

CynicKill

1) Did Prince REALLY hate Sinead's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U", because that's news to me?

I for one think it's THE best version of the song.

2) I refuse to be critical of Madonna because I'm trying something new (not be mean for no reason). He was her friend. I'm sure she was devastated.

3) I agree with whoever said the tone was off. I mean this is Madonna. She of the spectacle tour and who was right alongside him causing all types of problems and breaking down every barrier back in the day. I expected high energy and excitement. Too sad. Too somber.

RT? I got the creepy feeling like she was trying to wear his skin....the throne should have been EMPTY - this proves how little of Madonnas art is shaped by her. This reeked of her desperately wanting to inhabit Princes realm....I even believe she's desperately grieving but this was badly concieved and executed.

She did look amazing but I just felt all 'ew' about it....

Yes, the throne should have been left empty.

I might be wrong, but I believe both Stevie & Questlove are black. And maybe Prince related artists have more respect for themselves to appear on a god awful show -- being forced to share the stage with someone who had next to nothing to do with Prince.

Who knows. This show has as much to do with music as Greys Anatomy has to do with how a hospital actually runs.
