Prince's Last Great Moment Was "Mountains" . I don't want to bring anyone's head down, I don't want to spoil the party here, but Prince has not written a great song since "Mountains" -- that's thirty years ago!
. I just listened to "Mountains" today and it is monumental. It is mighty. Majestic. MAGNIFICENT! What song since "Mountains" can you say that about? Sure Prince has written many, many fine songs over the past thirty years, but nothing has come close to the masterpiece that is "Mountains." . "Mountains" - Prince's last masterwork. . Yeah, "1+1+1=3" is great, "Face Down" is fantastic, "Sign O The Times" is out of this world, "Space" is superb, and "I Wish U Heaven" is wonderful, but Prince was never able to come close to "Mountains" in thirty years. (In all honesty, no musical artist has been able to come close to "Mountains".) It's time to finally admit that from 1986 onwards, Prince never wrote a song better than "Mountains." . It's only mountains and the sea.... . Come on, sing along to Prince's best. "There's nothing greater...."

You are entitled your opinion, but of course he had a lot of great moments and masterworks after 1986. Maybe I would agree none after 2006, but 87-88 were awesome and so were 93-95...plenty of classic jams in there that are better than the song Mountains which I would give a 7.5 out of 10. Mountains is my all-time favorite Prince single, but he wrote plenty of equal-to or better-than material afterwards. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

. Yeah, it's Prince at the peak of his powers. Everything was in sync -- his talents, his contributions from band members, his passion, his ambition...

This song sort of sealed the deal for me. I had never heard anything like it before and have not really since. But I don't agree it was his last great moment.

Thank You Prince | |

I agree, it is a wonderful song, although I think he has done loads of other fantastic stuff since then. His style has changed several times though. Some people tend to select and pick what they like out of Prince's music, depending on their mood or personal taste while others (like myself) enjoy the variety of his musical styles !

Sorry, didn't quite get it... Do you like Mountains or not?

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely "Mountains" but... I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

9 replies and no one gets the joke? (I hope it was intentional) It reminds me of the Paul McCartney quote: 'Frank Sinatra once said 'Something' was the best song Lennon and McCartney ever wrote. Thanks Frank!'

I love Mountains! It's probably one of my top favorite songs from that period but for me he did alot after that I love. Personally for me there is no peak with him because I honestly enjoy him in every era he was in.

I would like to draw attention to: Your deliberately troll like thread title... You could have used a title such as "The best Prince song EVER... Mountains". Just an odd thing for a fan to do... just sayin'.
Moderators? "On the one..."

No. I'm pretty hard on Prince's later output, but I think songs like The Breakdown and Black Sweat were pretty great. I don't really get the point of posting such a definitive statement on something so subjective. What do you hope to achieve with this thread?

Nothing I have read by Cloreen indicated they are actually a Prince fan. Most of the posts I have seen have been super negative. Last great Prince song... Lol the next album had If I Was UR Girlfriend. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

This thread is completely preposterous. Mountains is an ok song, but I've never understood the love it gets here. The song glides along in a sweet non-offensive kind of way, but it lacks any bite, urgency, or transcendence. Check this out ... Mountains was the first single where I thought Prince was slipping a bit. It was just so tame. Please, please, please can somebody explain to me what you like so much about this song? Lyrics, beat, guitars, vocals, arrangement, what is it? "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

One of the most pretentious statements I've ever seen in my years on the Org.

He's trolling. Even in these circumstances.

For me - it's one of the rare times he talks to the band during a studio track. It's always been a joy to behold him playing bandleader on stage. It's kind of rare on records... Without knowing off the top of my head when/how the song was recorded his callouts for the girls to sing, and the guitars and drums gives the impression slash, creates the illusion that it's a live studio cut.

You say it's his last great moment, then go on to list other moments with synonyms about how great they also are. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.
