This is my opinion. Remember that. Opinion.

I am not happy at all that Madonna is paying tribute to the one and only true king Prince. She may be a legend and might be the best selling female artist of all time but I still think she's not worthy enough to pay tribute to our guy. I'll admit that I was a fan of hers years ago but that was years ago. I can't stand her attitude and potty mouth. Madonna is no where near the same league as Prince.

I'll admit that nobody will ever be good enough in my mind to pay tribute but we should have gotten someone that Prince worked with or at least a legendary musician like Paul or Bruce or someone with a good voice like George Michael. I know Billboard wants someone the kids like me will recognize so they could've also gone with Bruno Mars.

I don't know if I'll watch the tribute, I probably will since curiosity always gets the best of me but I already sense in my consiousness that this tibute will not be pretty. I certainly hope it's better than Lady Gags tribute to David Bowie where she tried tomake it about herself. That's also another reason why I don't want M to do the tribute. Attention seekers should never be allowed to do tributes to anyone.

Not looking forward to it, I must admit. Just brought back the image of that awful Lady Gaga tribute to Bowie. sad

I dislike Gaga and everything about her, and her using the LGBTQA community to get record sales, and be some false beacon of support. That Bowie "tribute" (I use the word loosely) was rushed, and more about Gaga dressing up like Bowie, than Bowie's genius.

Back to Madge:

yes

It is a perfect choice. She was the perfect choice for MJ,d too. The three of them ruled the 80s, all were born within weeks or months of each other, and one greatly influenced the other. It was a healthy competition among all.

prince

The ill sentiments aren't necessary. We're mourning the greatest musician and songwriter in history. It's not about musicianship or record sales - it's about the man who left too damn soon.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Madonna did work with Prince on the duet Love Song on her album Like A Prayer. I think Billboard wanted someone people of all generations would know not just kids. Older people don't know or care who Bruno Mars is, but like it or not everyone knows who Madonna is!

Despite what people say Madonna does have a good voice. Plus, let's be honest. Prince was more than the music, he was also style, fashion and sexuality as well as the music. Madonna is one of the few icons who combine both. Paul and Bruce, however talented don't really have that other dimension. Their style of music also has little in common with Prince. Madonna's music over the years has incorporated all genres in much the same way as Prince's did.

If attention seekers can't be allowed to do tributes, that would eliminate all famous successful musicians since they by definition are attention seekers by performing in front of the public.

I didn't mind Madonna's tribute to MJ at MTV Awards in 2009, I'm sure it will be ok, I just wonder what she is gonna wear? hmmm

Probably those assless pants Prince wore during his Mtv performance of Gett Off. She kind of gave an sneak peek at the Met Gala:

You have a point right there in her being more than just music, but still. I wish she were more talented.

By attention seeker I meant that she will more than likely try to make the tribute about herself and not about Prince, like Gags did with her tribute to Bowie.

The MJ tribute was more about Madonna than the person the tribute was supposed to be about - 'look at me.. look how close I was to MJ...even though he hated me and took the piss out of him...we were the two biggest superstars and we went out for food…just like regular people…’

It was the most disingenuous and self-publicizing piece of crap I ever heard.

Prince really didn't respect Madonna as an artist, but billboard understandably wants ratings - Stevie Wonder or George Clinton aint going to get that. Are they?

Prince and Madonna did work together back in 1988 or 1989. His guitar was even on the title track. Madonna is not on his level as a musician or vocalist but she is on his level as an influential and moving entertainer and icon. She is last of the big three 80s stars to be alive and she seems like an obvious pick for a tribute.

I am so over people writing off Madonna. It is just the result of sexism and ageism. She is not anymore attention seeking than other celebrities. If anything, she seems sweet and just likes to keep it real.

Rolling Stones greatest artists of all time ranks Madonna at #36, Michael Jackson at #35, and Prince at #27. She is right up there with them.

I am not writing her totally off,

if she is singing Prince's ballads, his slow songs it might turn out ok good..

IF she is singing Purple Rain with a band, someone playing the guitar there... OH NOOOOOO.....

That might turn out very pain- and awful... eek sad
