Great album, but worst album cover ever! Embarassing then, and embrassing now, my kids can't understand it and I don't even know where to begin on it...
A very cool album cover would have done this album a lot in terms of sales.

Thats the problem for some , as a guy i have no problem with the cover. But was thinking if a female artist had done the same sort of album cover with her parts slightly covered, but with crap songs on it. Would of sold like pancakes. Strange world this.

Oh believe me, I understand the "pureness" of the cover and I know what Prince was doing and he obviously had every right to do whatever he wanted, but how many casual fans passed on buying this album because of the cover?? I would imagine a hell of a lot.
To me, it still looks like egocentric nonsense, even today. Too bad, because that album deserved so much better and also because most of his album covers are classics IMO

Too bad, because that album deserved so much better and also because most of his album covers are classics IMO You probably know this but at the time of release several big retail chains like Walmart refused to carry the album...and that severely hampered sales! 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

Since 1988, each and every year, I listened to this truly great and brilliant album (well for me it's the best in music history), the 12 inches, the B-sides and the concert on this very day (May 10). Not today, I just can't...

Since Prince's death, it's been my most played album by him. Lovesexy was sadly one I neglected for a long time (thanks, skipping vinyl!), but, I've revisited it since and am disappointed in myself for ignoring it, cause jesus is it fantastic (and better than The Black Album imo). It might have the best bass and drums I've heard on any of his albums. I've needed Positivity more than anything else these past few weeks...

It's a great album...but doesn't reach the heights of Sign or the funkiness of Black Album, imo.

He has played Anastasia several times, most recently at Paisley Park for the innagural Piano and a Microphone show. Also Alphabet St. has been done at many shows. Beyond that I don't think so.
The Lovesexy Tour was also a major US tour. I saw it in both Chicago and Detroit. In fact, I think it was mainly a US tour to make up for not doing the Sign of the Times tour in the US. It was his first major US tour since Purple Rain. [Edited 5/10/16 15:29pm]

The album is a classic; there is no denying that. Every album between 1982-1988 is in one way shape or form. With Lovesexy, I love the album but I am not in love with it. For some it seems to be more than music but an experience. Sign O the Times is like that for me; it goes beyond music; I'm carried through the whole thing which is a collage of styles, emotions, etc. Lovesexy is a theme album, if you buy into it and are open to it I think it takes you somewhere. If you look at it as a collection of songs, and songs you can't even fast forward because it is all one track, I think you can appreciate its greatness without being truly affected by it. It's the difference between appreciating a painting and truly being moved by it. Alphabet St is a classic, Glam Slam is a helluva ride musically but the lyrics always seemed a little underwritten. The title track is a technical wonder. I love Anna Stesia but other people seem to next level level love it. This is a CD I wished I loved more, I wish I could take it in like others have. All good things they say never last...

I'd like to share a little story with you:
Me and my friend who were really hardcore fans at that time (we were 24), had just read about the cancelled release of the black album in a magazine, I think it was "Controversy". One day on the radio, we heard a song...we knew it was Prince of course, but the new album (Lovesexy) was not released yet. We turned up the volume to listen better, and there it was: When 2 R in Love. We knew right away that the radio HAD to have a copy (bootlegged or whatever) of the Black Album, cause we knew that song was in it!!! We called the radio, talked to the guy on the consolle at that moment, telling him: How come you have a copy of The Black Album? He said: How do you know that??? We know, period. . We went to the radio, and he prepared for us a copy on tape! And that's the first time we heard that. "No one plays the clarinet the way U play my heart"

By the time of 'Lovesexy' I had been pretty much obsessed with Prince for 5 years, and the album holds a special place in my heart for a variety of reasons. I was exactly a week short of my 19th birthday the day it was released and 'Lovesexy' was truly the sountrack to my summer that year. Oh to be 19 again, driving around in my car, windows down and singing 'Heavy feather, flicka nipple' at the top of my voice thinking I was oh so cool.
I had just become an assistant manager in a new local convenience store, and the manager and I (who 28 years later is still my closest friend) used to put Lovesexy on over the tanoy system and watch the faces of some of our more senior customers on the CCTV from the office as they heard Cat rapping about jerking your body like a horny pony would. We used to be in tears laughing. So very juvenile and silly but if ever there was an album that takes me back to a period in my life it's this one. My first job, my first car of my own, the first time in my life I had real money and real freedom, and a summer teaching my 22 year old boss and new best friend every rude Prince lyric I could think of.
To think, it was this very week, 28 years ago that I was learning the amazing last few minutes of 'Positivity' for the first time. It is my birthday again in a few days time (May 17th), and that will be the second anniversary of when I saw Prince live for the last time. He performed in Manchester, my nearest city, actually ON my birthday. He was amazing, and there was another memory born, one of my wife and I dancing and singing with thousands of other Prince fans, mesmerised by the man and his music.
For a couple of hours that night I was a teenager again, instead of a middle aged married man with a sensible car and sensible job. It's for the great thread that Prince wove through my life that I cried when he passed. He was a part of my youth, and as I listen to Lovesexy right now with my headphones on, he takes me back to a place in my mind in a way no other artist can quite match.
Thanks for posting about Lovesexy

I haven't seen anyone here mention this yet ... so am I the only one who owns the one-track version of this CD? "Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."

SOTT and LoveSexy are top of my list if I had to have one... I hard a hard time with my profile for that reason. Anyway- I haven't seen the LoveSexy tour at all but I just found a Prince picture book I had of that time, holy wow. In another thread someone said PR should be the new Rocky Horror. In another thread where some lucky Canadian orger is going to see SOTT on the big screen- how would a midnight showing of LS work? If there is a concert film as such. Like high quality. In my mind it makes sense he filmed a story like that for every album. In some way or another. I wonder if there would be enough to do a different one each month. Dreamin... Anyway. How was that in comparison to SOTT cuz the pix I've seen- very cool. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

There is no concert film (like Sign of the Times) per se but there was an official, legit VHS release of the Lovesexy show he did in Dortmund, Germany. It was , to my knowledge, also available on laserdisc. The odd thing about the VHS tape was that part 1 and 2 got mixed up...so, in order to get the real experience and to get the right storyline (yes, the concert had some sort of storyline) you had to watch tape 2 first and then tape 2. There was a little guitar malfunction during Anna Stesia but Prince didn´t let that spoil the show and remained very relaxed about it and whispered something into Miko´s ear. Make sure you watch that concert somewhere online if you can. Great album, great concert. . Some think it is a tad overproduced. Mr. Eric Leeds once said that he never really got the idea behind that album, and that it sounded much rawer and better first, before Prince decided to add things here and there. I love it as it is and the way Prince intended it to sound but I´d love to hear the unpolished version that Mr.Leeds talked about. And I think it is one of his best album covers but I can see why it sold so poorly because of it.
