Great album, but worst album cover ever! Embarassing then, and embrassing now, my kids can't understand it and I don't even know where to begin on it...

A very cool album cover would have done this album a lot in terms of sales.

Start with it's just a naked body. We all have one of those.

.

I never saw the fuss. It's a great album cover. Stylistically, artistically it's bold.

Correct me if I'm wrong...he did not play ANY of these songs live after 88, right? There wasn't even a leg of the Lovesexy tour in the States, right?

Thank you very much.

When I first heard Lovesexy, I was going through a crisis or two, my world seemingly falling apart. I listened to the record on those giant Polk Audio speakers amplified by a MacIntosh tube amplifier and I literally gave myself some musical therapy listening to that record. It has a mix of regrets and redemptions that is just what the shrink ordered.

Agree. No throw aways. I love that you can't skip around easy. Perfect like his bare naked human body on the cover.

Why are we all such prudes? I felt silly buying it too. Probably not now but at 12, yes.

"I wish we all were nude..."

I like listening to him chew gum. Or whatever he was doing.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Why are we all such prudes?

We're not, it's only North America that had a problem with it.

Is that why albums like this soared to #3 or higher in the US?

Well, I was talking about the USA, not Canada, don't know about RiotPaisley. Maybe most of the USA are fine with a dumb, easy to understand soft porn shot from 2 Live Crew, but not with something that is actually artistic, as in the Lovesexy cover. The fact of the matter remains, it was parts of the USA who had the record cover in paper bags, no where else.

I think the actions of a few store owners in a country of 320 million doesn't warrant stereotyping the states as prudes. I brought up 2Live not just for the cover, but the content of the album ... no chance it would have done so well on the US charts if America consisted of a bunch of "prudes".

It's a simple matter of preventing children from being exposed to nudity while in stores, and my guess is the majority of the stores that covered the cover were located in the Bible Belt.

I know you didn't, Riot did. wink Thanks, and I do agree the cover was artistic.

The tight funk of Alphabet St.

Prince had a ton of minimalist funk tunes, but this is one of the tightest. Only the beats that mattered, and everything in place. Been digging this one recently, and the "this is not music, this is a trip" b-side.

Before I wrote the exact same thing, I knew some would disagree with me. lol

Is there ANY Prince song that EVERYONE agrees isn't so great? I doubt it.

I bet even "Purple & Gold" has some fans here ... giggle
