How come Anna wasn't a single, can't understand it. In my head i have imagined what would be an incredible video.

It's an amazing song, but I doubt that pop radio would have really supported that song in 1988.

That might be true, still, it's an amazing song. Even though what you say about the radio might be true, yet back 1971 a very unlikely song reached number one and that is "Family Affair" who would say that it would be number one.

It was the first album I played upon hearing of Prince's passing, and for good reason.

Sign O the times was always my favourite prince album until I was about 15 and then I found lovesexy in a specialist store.
I haven't looked back. It is a concept album (which prince loved to do) of the highest magnitude. I felt the concpt in this album was the pinnicle of the 80s run. I love how it (to me) tells the story of a religious reawakening with sexual conflicts and temptations. Religion and sex was infused so perfectly, that sometimes you can't distinguish the two.
The black album had all sex and is a funk masterpiece in its own right, but the best thing to come out of it was this album. Lovesexy is deeper and more provoking than the black album.
It also links everything he's done before this album and simultaneous works as a hint of what was to come in the 90s.

I feel this deserves more recognition than it gets.

I listened to Lovesexy for the first time in a while yesterday, and it got me thinking...
Jimmy Page insisted on Remastering all of Led Zeps albums... How can anyone but Prince oversee a remastering of Lovesexy? The production is insane! The layers of noises and chattering, all perfectly balanced with the music. It's a masterpiece!

Yeah. Prince said to Chris Rock that he used "Let's Go Crazy" as a metaphor for God, because you couldn't say "God" on the radio. Kate Bush had to change A Deal with God into Running Up That Hill to get airplay. So the chances of a song with a chant about "God is love" in it becoming a hit were pretty slim.

Yup, and according to L.A. Reid it was Prince who told him "the elevator is the devil". eek

Lovesexy was ahead of it's time in 1988 and it was recorded on analog equipment which it makes it more interesting when Prince put this all together in whole. The mixing of the dialog between Cat and Prince during the title track was unheard of and pure genius how Prince came up with this and it's epic.

The entire album has 9 different songs or 9 different genres... depends how it's put and it's a masterpiece in my opinion. Is the Black Album better than this one? no and Lovesexy isn't better than the Black Album either as they are two different records. Most importantly be thankful the withdrawn of the Black Album gave us Lovesexy and I am listening to side two of the record now.

The downside to the pressing of Lovesexy LP was it took four attempts for me to obtain a clean pressing because the first three copies had skips and it was pressed cheaply back in 1988.

To re-mix his released records without him would be really off IMO. Those mixes are tight and amazing--and a good part of his genius. To remaster them is really a seperate thing. The layers (and chattering, etc) would remain exactly as he set them--but the sonic balance would become fatter and wider. Prince's releases came out during the infancy of CD/digital mastering. Sound engineers have come a long way since then. I feel that the remasters (whenever they come out) will be a revelation.

He had said that in other interviews as well - and he is singing 'de-elevator' which makes the connection to 'devil' more obvious.
