Everybody on the org say it is the best: Lovesexy

Well, not everybody of course, because there's always going to be people who don't like this album and that's cool, but if so, this thread isn't 4 U.
No, this thread is for people who looooove love the Lovesexy album! Words fail me to say how much I love this LP, but I'll try anyway. It's got everything: all of the things Prince sang about: love, sex, God, world peace, it's all put together here in one word: Lovesexy. All the influences are there: Sly Stone, Miles Davis, The Rolling Stones ("just a kiss away"), yet they're all rolled up into something totally unique. It's heavenly, but at the same time the beat keeps your feet nailed to the floor and your ass shaking. It's got everything. It's got an uplifting message: Positivity. Love. That's what it's all about: love.

That's the first album that hooked me in 25 years ago. Love it. Complex sounds and wonderful lyrics

The whole ONE track thing also made you listen to album complete.

"Lovesexy" was, is and always will be my favourite album, not only by P but by every artists I will know in my entire life.

It is simply perfection. It is simply art.

It is simply the quintessential P, more than any other of his album.

My favourite album by anyone, ever.

The songs, the art, the iconography, the clothes, the attitude... pure bliss. cloud9

It helped me find God again, but I don't think it's his best album, that title belongs to SOTT imho. But it is definitely up there.

I agree this is one of my favorites. I have a hard time calling any of them favorites or putting them in list form. I don't even know what I would do if say I could only bring one CD with me for all time... I'm not sure which I would pick. LoveSexy would be a finalist but I would probably end up picking one blindly.

I used to listen to it every Sunday morning as an alternative to church.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

It's an album that puzzled me becauseI thought SOTT and Black Album were better, but it's also because of that puzzlement, the album I listened to over and over to try to get it.

Such a great album. Perhaps more than any other Prince album, Lovesexy has no genre other than PRINCE.

I love the album and it's in my top 5 for sure, but it always sounded kinda cheesy to me, some of the songs like Glam Slam and Wish U Heaven sound like they could be on the soundtrack to an '80s Jim Henson movie.. of course that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I think this is his best, most cohesive, and most inspired album. This is the first one that truly hooked me, as a child, and I absolutely cherished my cassette copy of it. If there was any kind of crack or ding in the case, I wanted to buy a whole new copy of it. It had to be pristine ALWAYS.

The pure ecstatic joy of eye No. The Ball (original version of eye No) doesn't even come close to capturing what this song does. It sounds unfinished in comparison. Sorry.

The tight funk of Alphabet St., that oddly sounds both layered and lean.

A song like Glam Slam?! It's such a musical trip that it almost defies adjectives. A song that sounds like nothing he ever did, before or after. It could almost be its own album within the album. I was secretly hoping he would shock us on the ThirdEyeGirl tour and let a rocked up version of this song go. I think minds would have been blown.

The deep, soul-stirring Anna Stesia - easily of the best things he's ever done period. It's right up there with Joy In Repitition for me.

The urgency of Dance On, with those sick, firecracker drums. This one still hits me like a freight train.

Lovesexy - another genre defier. What is this song? Rock? Funk? Soul? I keep hearing about another version of this song, that Eric Leeds thinks is better because it has less tracks. Well, I don't want to hear it. This song is perfect.

When 2 R In Love - I love Prince when he lets his sensitivity and vulnerability come through. A man saying things like, "Come bathe with me - let's cover each other with perfume and lotion," is both bold and beautiful - a quality that makes songs like this, and If I Was Your Girlfriend, so special. There's almost a plaintive quality to it, as well, that kind of peeks out during the outro. Prince's backing vocals on this song sound like they were recorded in Heaven. Unbelievable.

eye Wish U Heaven - This song almost sounds lightweight in contrast to the rest of the album, but it's deceptively simple. I think it was Jon Bream who ironically described it as a kind of purgatory, which is perfect. It's like a beautiful limbo before the epic finale.

Positivity - yes. Almost an eastern vibe with the xylophone, but funky. I love Prince's deep, monotone vocal delivery, contrasted by the soul of Boni Boyer. Tons of great tension, with a gorgeous ebb and flow, that finally climaxes with the whole band chiming in, "Hold on 2 your soul. U got a long way 2 go." Finished by the sounds of rushing water for purification. Perfect.

"That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

This album is just timeless. It sounds as fresh today as it did back then. If you played it to virgin ears today they would not be able to pin point what decade it was made. This album and Parade sit side by side as a testament of the genius that was Prince. And to think how quickly he put it together after pulling the Black Album is simply mind boggling. Oh, and the tour that accompanied it was like someone threw Beethoven, Tim Burton, Funkadelic, The Sex Pistols and Freddie Mercury into a room and said "Now, perform!".

Correct me if I'm wrong...he did not play ANY of these songs live after 88, right?
There wasn't even a leg of the Lovesexy tour in the States, right?
I love it too...although SOTT and Parade are definitely my favourites.
