Who do you suppose she is talking about here, in her song 'where have you been?'"Same when the friend of the prince spikes your smoke Hoping to make you a mess and a joke But you never were his, you never were his No matter what he did"

when some parts of the story are guaranteed to be false (his irises desolving), it's destroys the credibility of the rest. You didn't have to be there to know his irises didn't dissolve.

Fair enough, but I just don't think that she made this story up.What would be the point? She may have exaggerated certain parts (like the irises dissolving, lol) but I can't see her lying about everything else.Another thing is.....as others have pointed out,we know that Prince isn't always the "nicest" person, lol. That's no secret.I think it's safe to assume that there was some kind of misunderstanding/disagreement/argument going on here, between two people with strong personalities. For whatever reason,Prince was pissed at her and invited her to his home for the sole purpose of letting her know that.

but that's the trouble with destroying your own credibility. If some parts are completely unbelievable because they are impossible, what parts are you supposed to believe?

I don't think that she destroyed her own credibility, and there are parts that I do believe, like the ones she stated before, in her original story. I've heard about the aluminum foil that he keeps on his windows to keep the light out, because it was said that he is nocturnal and sleeps in the daytime, and is a night person, so I can see where that would be true. To be honest, I think that because her song Nothing Compares 2 U did so well, that Prince was jealous and mad, because it was his song, and she was getting all of the accolades. Also, I'm sure that her friends that were with her during this time, knows the true story, because they were there when this all began, and I'm sure she told them what happened when she went to see Prince, so someone should find them and ask them what really happened at that time. Like I said, maybe parts are being made more dramatic now because she's writing a book, but I don't think she's lying about her encounter with him.

so between teh article and the roling stone blurb, she thinks Prince's irises disappeared (which is impossible) and that her one cover of his song, which was her only hit, financially saved Prince?

That part got me curious, too. lol

That single sold more than 10.000.000 copies.

Prince must have gotten anywhere from 1 to 3 dollars from each sold single and album in the world. Dolly Parton made a killing off Whitney's version of I will always love you (written by Parton.).

I have no doubt that Prince tried to hurt her feelings and was angry about the song being recorded and probably jealous of the success. My only issue is Sinead O'Connor has told this story ten different ways and it gets weirder and more dramatic each time. Pick one version of the story and stick to it.

Yeah, that's what Sinead is trying to say.I remember in 1990,that song was HUGE...one of the biggest singles of that year. Her remake of "Nothing Compares 2 U" was more successful than any of Prince's own singles that year.Still,I think it's a bit of an exaggeration to say that it "saved his fucking ass" smile

Yeah,I believe that he was angry/jealous of that song's success. But he should have been grateful that her remake became such a success! Thanks to her,an old, forgotten song that he wrote...finally got the success and attention it deserved.Any other songwriter would have been thrilled.

It's really not remotely possible Prince was paid that much. He was the songwriter, they currently make about 9 cents per copy sold. I doubt it was any more back then and possibly less. So he made $1 million or so in an era where his advances from WB for each album were around $5 million and his tours packed arenas.

but that's not too bad considering it was an old, obscure song that most of the public had never heard before.

P behavior is very typical of an abuser who gets his way too often .. It would be nice to think sinead made it up but the events described certainly do not contradict other behaviors and attitudes we have witnessed from prince ... I think she is truthful and accurate and had every reason to get out of there ...
I was thinking the same thing but the bashing reminds me of females describing how they were abused/rape and no one is believing them and even in court they try to make the victim doubt their own story. They want to act like the woman is crazy or deserved it, but we don't know what all happened that night between her and Prince. He was younger then and we know how bratty Prince can get but we should never dismiss the case..we know there's two sides to a story and we know Prince has two...

I really don't think this is at all similar to those times when people blame or shame the victim. That shit goes on all the time, but this is different. There is no credibility to her story. No other woman has ever described Prince in this way. I like Sinead, but she's absolutely nuts and this seems to me like a case where she's taking a grain of truth and building a tower of lies on top of it. I'm sure Prince did criticize her. He may even have left her at 5 in the morning with no way to get home. But punching her and chasing her around the car? Sorry, but it smells like hardcore BS. I don't blame Sinead though because I know she's mentally ill.

but why was he was so concerned about her attitude in interviews? Or the fact that she cusses during interviews? She wasn't an employee/protege of his,so why should he care about this? I think its absurd that he invited her to his home for the sole purpose of trying to "put her in her place".

When he invited her up, he may of been in a good mood. Gemini's are notorious for changing like the wind. I believe that he invited her up with the intention to talk to her generally about stuff, maybe question her about her attitudes and stuff in interviews. But he ended up in a bad mood and started acting like a bit of an arse to her. I don't think Prince is completely innocent in this.

Maybe he's one of those people that feels the need to push his opinions on other people. I wonder why he didn't like girls dressing a bit masculine since he embraced his feminine side. I wonder if he thinks that everyone should be more feminine.

why do you think he was trying to put her in her place instead of simply trying to mentor her? Perhaps if she considered the avice she may have had a longer career than just the one song.

mentor her?? falloff Sinead doesn't strike me as the type of person who wanted to be "mentored" or given advice on how she should behave.Prince likes to control women and that's the problem.

Not Everyone will get along when they get together...

The deal is this: it's about a person's perspective in telling a story.

It might not be something that you're interpreting, based upon what you all have experienced but it still may be real for THAT person, in THAT GIVEN TIME....

Remember this: telling a story is merely subjective...

She may have taken it wrong, based upon what she went thru in her life,( let alone this story) but she has always been consistant....

Maybe she took it the wrong way...

Who Knows?

Move ON...

Batdance sold millions as did the batman sountrack and Prince got paid as the performer as well as the composer. The movie the music was used on was the biggest movie of the year, grossing over $400 million, Prince also got paid for his music being used there too. Even with the great success of Nothing Compares 2 U, it's really not possible Prince made more money from that than he did for Batman/Batdance just a few months earlier.
