so between teh article and the roling stone blurb, she thinks Prince's irises disappeared (which is impossible) and that her one cover of his song, which was her only hit, financially saved Prince?

That part got me curious, too. lol

That single sold more than 10.000.000 copies.

Even that wouldn't make Prince as much money as the one single Batdance he released the year before where he was the actual performer. Not to mention the entire Batman album that sold 5 million copies. I would imagine he was also paid from the sountrack's use in the movie itself too.

The thing that irritates me most about this? Is Sinead O'Connor's use of the word effeminate when describing prince's voice. Whether prince is effeminate or not-at the end of the day this is a woman who tries to facilitate female/ non orthodox catholic rules/gay rights n has a nonconformist short haircut. These are all fine aspirations but when she talks of prince she is an utter hypocrite. She sounds like she just wants to say "fucking puff" coz she's not getting what she wants. Either be righteous or be a skanky bigot. It's your call Sinead

That bothered me too because everybody (but Sinead apparently) knows Prince's speaking voice isn't effeminate.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

You think she is truthful when she says prince's irises dissolved so there was only white left in his eyes?

I think it's merely descriptive. I'm gay, and I'm not tripping about it.

I was thinking the same thing but the bashing reminds me of females describing how they were abused/rape and no one is believing them and even in court they try to make the victim doubt their own story. They want to act like the woman is crazy or deserved it, but we don't know what all happened that night between her and Prince. He was younger then and we know how bratty Prince can get but we should never dismiss the case..we know there's two sides to a story and we know Prince has two...

"He lifts his face up to mine, as close as six inches, and stares into my eyes for like ten seconds. From the light through the open door I could see his eyes clearly. His irises dissolve in front of me, so that his eyes go pure white.

They don’t go up. They don’t go down. They don’t go left. They don’t go right. They dissolve. I see it clear as day."

No one wants to act like this woman is crazy more than she does!!!

Reading this again, maybe she's trying to say his soul or heart left his body.

I believe it. Prince can be creepy as fuck, and I don't doubt that he invited her over to terrorize her, for whatever reason. Since she is in fact an abuse survivor, I'm sure the fear she experienced in the moment was dramatically heightened, as it brought back memories of previous abuse. Whether or not she had/has other mental issues is up to her to reveal. I find the bit about the pillow fight to be especially disturbing.

In regards to the irises disappearing, as others have mentioned, maybe she imagined it, being so terrified, or maybe Prince put some creepy contacts in when he went upstairs the second time, just to fuck with her. Who knows? I think it's way too easy to call her a crazy bitch and dismiss the story as fiction. Prince has struggled with his "mean side" throughout the years ("I can be very cruel"), and even mentions it in one of his Tavis interviews. Maybe that's why he clings so tightly to his religion. He probably needs it.

How I take this story, I don't think it's a simple 'no Sinead is wrong this is the ramblings of a madwoman' or 'Yes Sinead is right this all happened'. I think it's a mix. Here goes:

Prince was slightly salty about the fact his song had gotten so popular but it wasn't him or one of his close associates had gotten it popular. It was someone out of his circle who he hardly knew, singing one of his most personal songs. And to top it all off it was a woman who could stand up for herself and didn't take shit.

We all know that Prince doesn't seem to be a fan of women who refuse to be dominated, just take a look at Mayte's recollections of her marriage to him- telling her what to eat, wear, not to call him he had to call her etc etc.

When he invited her up, he may of been in a good mood. Gemini's are notorious for changing like the wind. I believe that he invited her up with the intention to talk to her generally about stuff, maybe question her about her attitudes and stuff in interviews. But he ended up in a bad mood and started acting like a bit of an arse to her. I don't think Prince is completely innocent in this.

Now- judging by Sinead's past and her mental illness it's very easy for stuff to get blown out of proportion. What he may of seen as just being in a shit mood, she took as a legitimate threat.

Ie: the pillow fight sounds like he may of given her a bit of a crack by because he was in a bad mood, but her heightened paranoia made her think he had possibly put something in the pillow case to hurt her.

Regarding his treatment of Duane- again Prince has always been rather distant from his family. He probably just saw Duane as an employee of Paisley Park. It's probably worth noting that Duane and Prince had a strained relationship when he (fired/left??) Paisley Park and Prince even filed a restraining order against him.

Some other stuff that smells in this interview is that she mentions him stroking his chin 'as if' he had a beard. If this was 1990, he would of had a beard for definate. Didn't she also say in the past that this happened as Paisley Park, not at a random house in LA??

Just my thoughts.

It is her ONLY hit in the US where it was a huge hit, her folloup single peaked at 60, no other song she released cracked the top 100. She is a one hit wonder. Cartainly nobody thinks taht's the only song she ever recorded, but for the vast majority of people that's the only song anyone ever heard her sing. If not for that one song, nobody would even know who she is.

People are saying that it's hard to believe anything in an account that claims Prince's irises dissapeared when everyone knows that's physically impossible.

The USA is not the world. Besides, we all love when someone says about Prince "he's still around? the purple rain fella? When's the last time he released a song" right?

Problem is that it's too easy to say "oh all geminis are like that" plus "look at the number of times he had a strained relationship" --- and boom "yeah I think he's an abuser".

For those who are not around bipolar people or those who have even more serious conditions with schizophrenic features, it's not at all uncommon that they misinterpret ordinary gestures. At one point, one of my relatives couldn't do her job because she was convinced everyone at the office, men and women, were propositioning her non-stop. One of my friends actually performed an impromptu exorcism on me because apparently Satan had taken hold of my soul. So you have to separate what is maybe factual, maybe just nerves.

Since we can't do that here, maybe best not to jump to conclusions.

Her story does not contradict other stories we've heard about Prince from staff, or even journalists who wrote critically about him whom he later tried to intimidate. Minus the eyes white-ing over, her story about this incident has been pretty consisent over the years.

[Edited 12/30/15 8:41am]

/// I have never heard anyone say anything about him threating them in a public forum. I could see him putting a bodyguard on someone and their are stories about him cursing people out. Her story has changed because she said before that got into a altercation when in this story it is more yelling at each other and Prince trying to stop her from walking down a dark canyon by herself when he wanted to give her a ride. Did he invite her to start some shit sure I can believe that and I think he was pressed to give her ride because he knew he would be in a shit load of trouble if she got hurt going down that canyon by herself. Most of the story is Mrs. O'Conner being dramatic and feeding into stereotypes. Any way you can be sued for putting something into writing you cannot prove.

First of all, terms like bonkers, nuts, crazy, etc. are not helpful, she's been very public about her mental health being poor.

Second, I believe her when she says she had a very poor time with Prince, except her perception of these events is so highly dramatic with all the elements of ah horror movie that you can't help but wonder in what state she was as every little thing is described as creepy and she goes as far as saying his irises changed suddenly. Sounds to me like her fears shaped her perception like when you go to a so-called haunted house and every little creak is a ghost. This can happen to anyone under the right circumstances but I think her account is typical of someone who is bipolar experiencing an unpleasant event far more dramatically as others normally would.

--- Exactly in her mind an unpleasant experience can turn into a horror movie. That feeling story for Dwayne she must not he went to jail for beating a woman and then firing off a gun in a police stand off. Prince could have been pissed off at him for any numerous reasons.

Great perspective. I tend to agree with your points. This episode was most likely an attempt by Prince to straighten out Sinead in a playful way, but gone horribly wrong.

Prince we know can be and dramatic and silly. Wendy and Lisa talk about him using made up voices, loving pranks, having a real sick sense of humor, etc. And remember when Patti LaBelle said he invited her over and then disappeared for hours, only to show up again in a completely different outfit?

My guess is that Prince didn't like Sinead having a hit with his song and his not being in control of her art, persona, etc. So he invited her over to try to "take control" in a weird, playful, dramatic way, "straighten her out" , with Duane even playing along, and it didn't take well at all. Of course he meant it - he didn't like how she talked to the press, or how she swore so much in interviews. But he approached it kind of like when he gives the landlord his Bela Lugosi look in Under the Cherry Moon, all play and acting with "himself" totally in control. When his charade didn't take well with Sinead, he didn't know what to do. So he got into pimp mode (I can see him stroking his chin, acting like Ike Turner) and even threatened her. I think he probably chased her and followed her to try to make it right all of the sudden.

The whole story reeks of bad press and the way Sinead tells it, Prince comes off like a monster, a perpetrator, a real phyiscal threat to her. It was probably in his best interest to "fix" their meeting when she fled, but the way she reacted, it wasn't going to happen. And his chasing her only exacerbated the situation.

Long way of saying that, in my humble opinion, all of this did happen. But maybe Prince was half-joking, and Sinead is not one to take or get or appreciate the joke, and it all went south in the worst possible way.

Or, maybe Prince is just a monster and a bastard and an abusive person. biggrin

Do the people who actually believe this woman not look at the fact that her story has changed multiple times and gets wilder each time? Is that not the least bit suspicious? And didn't she once say the whole story was "blown out of proportion"? I feel sorry for her because she DOES have issues, but at this point her behavior is dangerous and irresponsible. Add the fact that she usually has something that has either just came out or is about to come out, whenever she brings it up.

There's plenty of damn good reasons to believe and understand that Prince can be a complete and utter dickhead. Sinead's ever changing fairy tale just is not one of them.

Prince is not the kind of person to waste his time correcting every fabricated story. Sinead herself gave both accounts. I have the Rolling Stone issue that scarier encounter was published. I really don't know what to believe.

Fargnoli was her manager starting in the late eighties? That might explain the Prince slander.

i don't think it would be hard for p to roll his eyes up so that only the whites showed .. i've seen some pr live pics where he looks almost demonic in his eyes .. i also imagine if p were standing cross armed with his chin down (in effort to be intimidating) while needing to look up or strait across to sinead .. that less of teh pupil would be there to see at that angle .. prince was mocking sinead name in various accents so perhaps his effeminate tone was another part of whatever headfucking he was doing .. last of all .. i was always under the impressing that sinead had accused p of beating her but never came out and said those words .. it was almost implied .. or i garnered it that way .. it was relieving to hear what the altercation was and the fact is that for me ... if she was lying .. she would have just said he punched her .. but she just said he grabbed her arm and mostly intimidated her .. and she was scared and acted accordingly and simply was not going to take his headfucking shit .. i was a fan of sinead back when lion and cobra came out ... really like a few tunes on that record .. i thought i do not have what i havent got was not as good at the time .. save the p song .. but have now grown to love a lot of songs from that record ... sinead was a force on her own who was pushed into the pop sphere with her outstanding cover tune .. she was a respectable talent and took brave steps towards moral justice that prince would never dare ... i remember her ripping up a pic of the pope on snl because the pope was declaring homosexuality a sin .. she was right on that one .. then at the bob dylan tribute the entire audience booed her off stage because of the pope incident .. she quoted bob marleys song "war" and walked offstage .. she was morally in the right there too with thousands booing her in the complete wrong ... everything about her story fits with who she is and wanting to do right and everything about how she described prince fits the prince personality we all know and have seen .. suing fans .. bullying websites .. yanking chains .. not showing up or keeping interviewers waiting .. pulling interviews he doesn't like .. etc ........ yes the pupils sounds more descriptive than literal to me but even if it was literal just google the undertaker wwe if u wanna see how easy it is to roll your eyes up all wierd .. and p was definately acting weird that night and obviously something all hush hush happened that night and I think sineads account is verly likely spot on ..

The shit pile keeps stacking up. First the Ebony interview, now this. December hasn't been Prince's best month so to speak. Makes him look like total clown shoes actually. sad

Don't flame me but honestly this sounds like how my friends and I treated each other at sleep overs when I was in 3-5th grade. Except for the chasing each other around a car at dawn. It sounds like P was mostly fucking with her but she took everything super serious.

Imagine the scene in UTCM when he tells the waiter "Garçon! You forgot one!" It's like faux angry and faux demanding. Trying to be funny. IMHO that's how I saw his tone with Duane in the story.

Read my full post, I pretty much outlined everything you just said wink

And with paragraphs too smile
