Let's fix Prince's career!

Let's face facts... Prince's commercial success is weakening year after year... His releases in the last 15+ years have been nothing great... I have been reading allot on Bruce Sprinsteen and how he's been reissuing he classic albums with allot of rarities...

Imagine Prince releasing a Dirty Mind, PR or SOTT with outakes, B sides, videos, live concert that supported the album and maybe even sneak in a few new tracks...

I would work w/ Warner Bros to release ahead of Christmas a re-master of PURPLE RAIN with the works - b-sides from the era, unreleased tracks from the sessions, alternatie versions, etc. - plus a pristine recording of one of the 1984-85 PURPLE RAIN TOUR shows. Then I'd reform the original Revolution for a few shows and TV apperances.... Then next year release a re-master of DIRTY MIND...then CONTROVERSY...then 1999..., etc.

fixing his career doesn't mean selling more old material, it means getting back on the radio.

He has made a small dent in that without even trying. 1000 hugs and kisses is #13 on urban AC radio with no visible promotion. Make a video, go perform on talk shows and push it up the charts and get it played on other formats.

he announces a new tour that is already stirring talk and people are still making threads about him putting out 30 year old music. there's nothing to fix as nothing is wrong with his career. it's exactly where he always wanted it to be...him in complete control doing what he wants when he wants. if that isn't the ultimate goal in the music industry, idk what is.

No point in "fixing" Prince's career. His career at this point doesn't matter.
He had his time in the spotlight... Isn't that enough?
What is actually important is Prince releasing new music as he wants to. Because that, along with everything from his past, will be his legacy. If humanity survives another 100 years, hopefully by then, people will remember Prince as the "Mozart of our time". And as the hard-worker who kept moving forward, which is what he always wanted to do.

how many copies did his last album sell?! less than 15,000?? Yeah, he's crushing the charts! but let me guess...sales dont matter..right? newsflash..keep releasing shit...all you have is your glory days...because no one is buying the new music...

There should some kind of support group for people who feel the need to fantasy manage a celebrity's career.

Until that day, I guess the Org will do what it can to help the afflicted.

As Mozart was the artist known for putting "too many notes",
surely Skiper will be remembered as the guy who put out "too many records".

Aside of showing your addiction to Purple Kool-Aid, it shows little knowledge of music.
But "don't take it so harsh, my young fellow", at least you deserve the KCOOL award :

Is Prince being held to a different standard than other artist who've been out as long as he has or longer ?

I think Prince wants to enjoy commercial success on his own terms and he isn't interested in exploiting opportunities that would help him sell more records. If you look at how Eminem, Rihanna, Drake their marketing brand is strong because of their consistent commitment to planning their career in the long term for their music and by extension, their fans. Prince's approach to dealing with fans, business partners and musicians is so haphazard and random. He could certainly sell more records but with said, what 57 year old musician is crushing the charts now?

He really should just skip the middle man and start his own satellite radio station. It can't be that hard if Eminem has one as well as Jamie Foxx.

More low budget approach:

use the intertubes, the interwebz or just the net.

But that thing was dead, didn't he proclaim?

Imagine Prince fans just buying his music when they like it, and not buying it when they don't, and not wishing for Prince to be what they want - a rising pop star. If he is cool with where he's at, be happy for him.

I would love to see the age and net worth of some of these people that are always counting Prince's beans.

Yes.

The higher the stakes, the higher the fall.

Ambition is in Prince's DNA.
Take that out, and you get a virtuoso poser.

Right now, he has no goals, no enemy, no purpose.
That needs a fixing.

Exactly. I'm not sure how releasing remasters of old music will fix anything. It will just spawn threads on this website: "He must be broke!"

He owns all his masters. I'll never turn on the TV and see a Frito Lay commercial with Computer Blue playing in the background (and if I do, I know Prince will have been paid handsomely).

He's making great music, still. I don't understand the haters of the new music, other than they're living in a "Raspberry Beret" world, and Prince has simply moved on to new and (to him) more important things. If the new music doesn't resonate with you, that says more about you than it does about him. I personally loved HITNRUN(!!!) and Plectrum Electrum. AOA didn't do as much for me, but again, that's on me.

As for radio airplay, it's over. That ship has sailed, and it has nothing to do with age or his music not being radio-friendly. Radio is 95% controlled by record companies, and he don't play nice with them (ie, he won't let them rape him like they do other artists who own nothing).

Now he's doing a tour in front of thousands of people who will have to *sit* to listen to the show. It will be a refined, classy, age-appropriate, "have a glass of wine" sort of affair. Who can pull that off? I hope he guest stars Elton John at one or two of these, and I wish I was going to be there.... hmm, maybe...?

LOL, and yet he probably pocketed more off HITNRUN than he did LOVESEXY. Made what moved him? check. Made a boatload of cash? check. I think it's all good.
