Bluu

I have six times on the cover of Rolling Stone:

  1. 04/28/1983 | RS 394 - PRINCE's HOT ROCK (Prince & Vanity)
  2. 08/30/1984 | RS 429 - PRINCE SCORES A Hit Album A Hot Movie (portrait, shirtless w/ arm raised)
  3. 09/12/1985 | RS 456 - PRINCE TALKS The Silence Is Broken (clip of P. from "Raspberry Beret" vid)
  4. 04/24/1986 | RS 472 - Wendy and Lisa PRINCE'S WOMEN
  5. 10/18/1990 | RS 589 - PRINCE TALKS (partial profile, beard)
  6. 05/27/2004 | RS 949 - Faith! Funk! Sex! PRINCE ON FIRE He's Still Got That Red-Hot Magic (Portrait, white suit w/ red polka dots)

Not sure if there's more but I think that's it for RS. This does not include any year-end RS covers (e.g. the RS 1990 yearbook, dated 12/13-12/27/1990 issue No. 593/594, featuring the 1990 Prince cover among a number of RS covers featuring other artists).

Would love RS to do a Prince - the Rolling Stone Files book compiling every article and review over the years.
I'm not holding my breath tho.

I'd never heard of the RS Files til you mentioned it. What a great idea it would be if they did one on him. Certainly enough news on him over the years to fill a book. If U2 can get their treatment, Prince certainly can. cool Keeping my fingers crossed!

U2 sells, Prince doesn't. Simple as that.

Actually, the real reason is this: Prince hasn't done a lot of RS interviews to warrant a RS Files. U2/Bono/The Edge have done a shit load of interviews and covers for RS over the years....Nearly 15 covers.....

Just saying....

RS isn't going to collect all those things for shits and giggles, they'll put out such a collection because they'll know it'll sell. Which is also why U2 have been on the cover more than a dozen times: because they sell copies.

.

They published this Nirvana edition -- and it's not like they had a ton of material for that.

.

Hey, I'd love a compilation of Prince articles form all kinds of magazines, especially the ones that have now vanished. But it's extremely unlikely this is ever going to happen unless Prince starts shifting copies.

.

Now defunkt UK monthly The Word once put out an overview of all their covers with a bit of comment, and they singled out two of them as "their worst sellers ever": Dido and Prince.

1. The Nirvana compilation also contained post death Kurt Cobain pieces...Also, there are other interviews from members of the band post Nirvana...Also write ups about the cultural impact of the grunge movement...It's not just Nirvana interviews....

2. The number of actual interviews Prince has done for RS fits on one hand....In fact, there are cover stories amongst the bunch that don't even contain actual Prince quotes...They are essentially write-arounds....That's not enough to warrant a special issue...

3. You have a hard-on for Prince....And its weird...
