Just like some gay men may not think its flattering for a woman to say she wants to sleep with him. Being gay is not insulting. But a gay person saying a provocative remark knowing damn well, how that "joke" would be taken is insulting because it's thoughtless. Yeah, I agree with this. I should have been more clear - I'm not saying Prince takes that kind of joke from a woman as a compliment, i'm saying a lot of his fans do. They get to say 'everyone wants a piece of my man Prince!' They want their hero to be all manly like that.

I don't think I do agree. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that it's not the responsibility of gay people to manage straight people's discomfort around homosexuality or whathaveyou. Also, arguably, I think making straight people uncomfortable is inevitable, and is exactly what needs to happen for LGBT to become free. They are always going to be uncomfortable, they need to work through it, and stop blaming LGBT folx for their anxiety. Some people want to argue here that what Boy said was really crass. Long as those in the LGBT community who have lack of empathy for the way their words or actions can have on people who are straight then the LGBT will continue with these divisions. Gay people are falliable like anyone else and to frame dissenting opinions as homophobic is cowardly. The power of the spoken word is a powerful tool and it's clear from BG's "joke" that the truth isn't important as much as perpetuating innuendo that fit their movement's narrative.
