EXACTLY. Nobody would be saying they hope Prince sues if it had been a woman making the joke...
Like I already said, last year Lil' Mo got her ass handed to her for her comments and she's a woman, so there's goes that theory.
I guess Imma have to show y'all....smh.
http://prince.org/msg/7/408874
Lil' Mo got the same treatment because she's "attacking" Prince, and some people here think Boy George is also "attacking" Prince. But if you think Boy George's joke was such a serious attack, then it's probably because you think being gay is wrong.
Lil' Mo wants to pick a fight with prince - that's an attack.
A woman jokes about sleeping with prince - that's perceived as a compliment (i'm sure that's how most would see it, anyway).
Boy George jokes about sleeping with prince - that's perceived as an attack, but really, the joke is insignificant.

Got damn! Has it ever occured to you that a heterosexual male does not think it's complimentary for a gay man to say he slept with him? Just like some gay men may not think its flattering for a woman to say she wants to sleep with him. Being gay is not insulting. But a gay person saying a provocative remark knowing damn well, how that "joke" would be taken is insulting because it's thoughtless. Some people defending Boy George are selective about what insults them but cry homophobia when someone gay is taken to task for something they should not have done. Play those homophobic cards all you want smh 3121 #1 THIS YEAR |

Ok so in order for this joke to be funny...it would have to have been by Prince saying he slept with Boy George? Jokes don't work both ways! Damn! I would think with the career and controversy Prince has had, you (not me) would find humor in it. Oh well. Back to class children... I guess Prince didnt teach you as much as he thought he was going to. I'm team George on this. Prince is above this shit, he won't reply or sue because he's not an idiot without a sense of humor. And if he does. I'll delete my account, and only get bootlegs! (That's funny right?) 😁

Yeah, I agree with this. I should have been more clear - I'm not saying Prince takes that kind of joke from a woman as a compliment, i'm saying a lot of his fans do. They get to say 'everyone wants a piece of my man Prince!' They want their hero to be all manly like that.
Anyway, regarding your accusation that I"m just blindly yelling 'homophobia' just because Boy George is gay... I think you just have to trust me that I'm not doing that? I dunno, I don't really have the energy to convince you that i'm sincere when i say that your tone in this thread has struck me as being homophobic. I definitely am not here to change anyone's minds on anything, I'm just presenting my point of view. You don't have to believe me when I say I've thought critically about this, but for what it's worth, I think I have.

I don't think I do agree. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that it's not the responsibility of gay people to manage straight people's discomfort around homosexuality or whathaveyou. Also, arguably, I think making straight people uncomfortable is inevitable, and is exactly what needs to happen for LGBT to become free. They are always going to be uncomfortable, they need to work through it, and stop blaming LGBT folx for their anxiety.
Some people want to argue here that what Boy said was really crass. I think it's obvious that wasn't really the case. It was an off the cuff remark. End of story. [Edited 11/1/15 20:09pm] |

Did you even read the article? He said it as a joke - oneupmanship after one of the other judges said "I worked with Prince", so he said "oh yeah! Well I SLEPT with him". Blame the Daily Mail (who are a worthless right-wing shit-rag) for making it a headline, not Boy George for making an OBVIOUS joke.
THANK YOU! I don't understand why Paloma wasn't just like "Well, so did I!".

Long as those in the LGBT community who have lack of empathy for the way their words or actions can have on people who are straight then the LGBT will continue with these divisions. Gay people are falliable like anyone else and to frame dissenting opinions as homophobic is cowardly. The power of the spoken word is a powerful tool and it's clear from BG's "joke" that the truth isn't important as much as perpetuating innuendo that fit their movement's narrative. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR |

LOL....I don't know who the hell you think you are but you need to grow up and understand that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to defend Boy George's mischaracterization by mischaracterizing people you don't even know.
It's even more pathetic for you to resort to outright lying. You have been around long enough to have seen some of the numerous threads where females right on this forum have been dragged because of whether or not they slept with Prince. Try being honest.
FYI, Lil Mo got attacked because she wrongly said Prince had something to do with the NOPD detaining her when he didn't. In other words, what she said was irresponsible and untrue.
Not that I owe the likes of you any explanation but since you don't know me imma put your ass in check right quick. For example, when my state was trying to push a DOMA initiative on the ballot, I got up off my straight ass and went to the polls to vote it down when I could have stayed home but I have this little habit of advocating for EVERYBODY'S rights.
That's the problem with extremists like you who reflexively and hysterically label and alienate even those who are on the side of equality.
Therefore you can take your bullshit ASSumptions and go fuck yourself.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. |
