A Representative For Britain's The Voice Has Played Down The Furore Surrounding A Quip Boy George Made About Sleeping With Prince, Insisting The Singer Was Joking.

The Culture Club star hit headlines on Friday (30Oct15) after allegedly stunning his fellow judges and the studio audience with the racy admission during a recent taping of the hit show.

The comment was made as the 54 year old and fellow panellists Paloma Faith, will.i.am and Ricky Wilson chatted about the most famous people they had collaborated with.

Boy George said, "I have duetted with some of the greatest soul singers in history including Luther Vandross and Smokey Robinson", with Paloma responding, "Well OK, if we're throwing big soul names out there, I've performed with Prince."

Chuckling, the openly gay pop veteran shot back, "Forget that, darling, I've slept with Prince!"

Tabloid reports suggested the bombshell admission prompted crew members to halt filming and race to the singer to discuss his comments.

"Production staff had to come up on stage and speak to them," an onset source told The Sun. "After that, Boy George started backtracking, saying he hadn't really slept with Prince and that in reality, he just had his poster on his wall. But as far as the crowd were (sic) concerned the cat was already out of the bag."

Now a spokesperson for The Voice U.K. has moved to clear up the claims, defending Boy George's cheeky chatter as just a joke.

"He just went, 'Oh darling, I've slept with him,'" the rep tells People.com. "He went on to say that he had Prince posters on his wall as a kid. He was never being serious."

The publicist goes on to insist filming was never delayed, as widely reported, adding, "(The) whole drama of the show coming to a halt didn't happen at all."

U.K. fans will have to wait until January (16) to view the drama for themselves.

Boy George recently replaced Sir Tom Jones on The Voice.

A spokesperson for Prince has yet to comment on the controversy.

I think most people realize Boy George was being cheeky, as the Brits say. The thing is, this whole trend of D-listers spewing bs in a desperate attempt to become relevant again his getting very tiresome.

This guy's last gig was cleaning toilets on the prison chain gang. He's another has been trying to get a come-up with a lame attempt at manufacturing a controversy. Media needs to stop enabling these losers.

This drama is beyond silly and really brings out the homophobes...

He said it as a joke! Plain and simple... in the context of what happened it was nothing but a laugh and a bit of fun. It's the media and the people getting bent out of shape that are looking foolish.

i have a hard time believing that boy george and that woman were having a back and forth, and in the middle of it, boy george thinks to himself, 'what luck! A chance to get some media attention by saying something scandalous about a more popular figure!', and then says his joke.

The Daily Mail are definitely the people who are making a scandal out of this non-event.

Boy George in 1985: "[Prince] looks like a midget dipped in pubic hair."

Boy George in 2015: "Darling, I slept with Prince!"

Don't try to move the goalpost now. You are implying that anybody who criticized Boy George's irresponsible statement is doing so because he's gay and I gave an example of how dumb that logic is....GTFOOHWTBS.

Your example made no sense both because Prince hasn't publicly corrected Boy George and because questioning someones sexuality and questioning someones gender are different things.

A person is either telling the truth or they are not, regardless of their orientation....period, end of.

My goodness... Do we really need a 7 page discussion about a joke making a joke? Even if it were true, who'd even care? Many (pop) artists are either gay or bisexual. Jagger, Bowie, Mercury are just the first who come to mind.

Before this, no man has claimed to have slept with Prince, at least not any that I've heard of. Prince has made it well known that he loves women, and never have he even hinted at loving men in any sense.

Um... Prince stole my X's boyfriend in the late 70s (maybe 1980 even), and he used to hang out in gay bars in Minneapolis and pick up guys. Also, I was friends with his assistant during the gold/come era, and he was gay. Prince used to flirt with him and his boyfriend at paisley parties and such. Prince also absolutely has hinted about sleeping with guys in his songs on occassion.
