They did studies and a majority of readers believe the headline even if the article says otherwise.

I don't believe that is as true when the source is notoriously dubious.

Boy George has done so many idiotic things Prince should come right out with an headline of his own:

EyE slEpT With BoY

-size pajamas.

I'd be surprised if P gave this any attention. He's been in the biz almost 40 yrs, he's totally blanked plenty of Shit along the way.

I'm hardly a fan of Boy George, but he really just made a goofy joke. It's the paper that really is in the wrong here, since they deliberately made a headline that was designed to be provocative and misleading. As anyone who knows more than a couple of gay men can tell you, this kind of comment is just meant to be silly and get a reaction. I'm not saying ALL gay men make jokes like this, but it's not uncommon in their culture. He was obviously joking, and the newspaper decided to make it into a salacious headline

Waitaminute!! Is the word "punk" now somehow offensive?!?

...given punk was originally a pejorative term used to describe homosexuals, and the article is about an openly gay man making an obvious joke, then I think the use of the word punk is at best naive, possibly homophobic, and offensive, either way.

I'm calling bullshit. Gay people are not "punks", that's just silly. People who try to limit language and think they have a right to not be offended, they are the "punks". bringiton

No it wasn't! Originally it was used to describe a prostitute, I believe.

I never heard any of this history. I do know this, NOBODY uses the word "punk" to denigrate homosexuals in 2015. Just sayin'...

True, but he should have had the common sense not to make such a joke in that type a setting. It was stated in front of a live audience.

There's something deeply disturbing about this type of behaviour, which goes way beyond any type of speculations on whether or not Prince might have had sex with men in the past.

I had not heard of Boy George's "kidnapping" incident before. However, it doesn't surprise me that consent might be a bit of a shady concept to him.

Either way, did George just make a flip joke to shut Paloma Faith the fuck up? She can be an opinionated self important little bint sometimes. Pretty funny. Shame the daily mail took a break from praising the Tories for tearing the country apart to run a misleading story. Jeremy Corbyn not doing anything to lambast today?

People are reacting to it negatively because they know that Prince don't play like that, and it reflects negatively on him, joke or not! If there's one thing that people know, it's that you don't mess with Prince, because he's not the one to mess with!

"EVERYONE IN GROUP: Please calm down. If everyone would take time to read the actual article, it says that Boy George was really referring to a Poster of Prince he used to have over his bed. Boy George was just being funny but unfortunately in these days people take things too literal to understand sarcasm anymore."

comment taken from fb, I just have to agree,

people don't read well if they are mad at BG because of a joke about a POSTER... eek

The idea that Prince sleeping with a man reflects negatively on Price is a solid example of homophobia.

What I probably find disturbing about these type of patterns of behaviour is just the complete disregard of others. He got his kicks out of saying that in front of other people without giving a shit on what Prince himself might think about it or how it will influence the perception on him.

Okay, I just saw this mess on my local news of all places. They reported that Boy George said he had sex with prince, which is an incorrect quote.

This is why I agree with Novabrkr. In any context what Boy George said was irresponsible because as the saying goes, a lie can travel around the world before the truth even gets its pants on.

Especially in the age of social media, disreputable journalists and a stupid pop culture driven populace.

BINGO! Finally someone gets it. It's always the people who aren't affected by controversial remarks that say "brush it off" or "it was only a joke". Empathy seems to be a lost concept on some people. Boy George's "joke" got him what he wanted: the biggest press attention not for his music, but for a crass joke that led to misleading headlines on sleazy online sites and Yahoo and in the proceess only casts aspersions on Prince and his perception. At the end of day, Prince is 37 years deep into a legendary career, releasing new music and playing shows while Boy George still doing community service and barely staying relevant on a reality show.
