I think we all knew it was coming though, Free Urself was too good to be true, but at least we finally got to hear it

Prince has probably thrown his toys out of the pram. HNR was a disaster. This Tidal thing may still have legs in Prince's mind, but it is doing absolutely zero for his interests. His music is reaching the least amount of people it ever has in his career. If/when Tidal fails, if it hasnt already, I wonder if there are any mugs left in the industry willing to pay upfront for new Prince music? Its hard to see why anyone would at this juncture.

Im not so sure. If you looked at these facts, would you invest a million of your own money in his product?

Last album sales count - approx. 40,000

Prince will not perfom any promotional duties

Prince will not embark on a world tour

Prince will not play any of the new music at any of his haphazard live gigs

Prince's interest in the project will cease the second you pay him

The album you get in return for your money will not be what you expected

He would have no problem getting a record contract whereby he gets a cut of the sales. But to get someone to pay him upfront for product that just isnt selling? I have a feeling that boat has sailed. Perhaps WB are still at the party, and maybe Tidal isnt a dead duck, but beyond that all I see are burned bridges.... And the thing that surprises me more than anything is that I actually dont really care. I think he deserves to be shown where rock bottom is because at this point in time, it might be the only thing that saves the music.

I think his lowest ebb might have been the likes of Purple Music when he released Rock'n'Roll Love Affair. What I mean is he'll always have somebody like that willing to release something even if the actual promotion they can afford is next to nil.

What he's asking for upfront is probably too much though, you're not wrong. Can't see him being willing to accept less.

A couple of super-rich fans who are willing to pay upfront, they're out there...

maybe we'll finally get remasters once those are the only thing that any company

WBR has the license for the foreseeable future, and the one remastered & expanded release they announced almost a year and a half ago(!) hasn't happened.
