Romeoblu

At least it's the whole album. Stops him from doing one track from it each week for the next 10 weeks.

HAH, that is the first thing I thought to myself when I saw it was the whole album...."ok, at least that is all out of the way" smile

Free Urself was a great pick, but so far it seems Prince is only releasing things to Tidal that he plans to actually release in the near future. I hope we get some picks that have no intention of a wider release, ie. non re-recorded vault material.

Peace

.

I asked him to release him Free Urself on here and on twitter. I told him one week's access to that song wasn't eough. He retweeted my twitter post and then a couple of hours later deleted it. I think he probably planned on releasing the song prior to my tweet and it was just chance I'd asked him to release and he posted my tweet. I like that he makes them available later, or some of them, because just listening to that song a few times that week and then to never hear that song again? I wanted to be able to listen to it over and over again, not have it disappear into obscurity again. It's a great way for him to test the popularity of the song or album, how well it's received, by making them Purple Picks.

Looks like it's Judith Hill's album Back In Time this week, can't say I'm suprised.

I was wondering if he might do this, to not take away attention from this project.

.

I figured he would post the album as the Purple Pick of the Week. He's been really pushing the album on twitter and it would only make sense to pick it as the Purple Pick. Not everyone is on twitter and though it's the album of the week on Tidal, doesn't mean the Prince fans always check those out. Actually, the Purple Pick of the Week could work great as a promotional tool and/or to get the feel of interest in certain musical works he's developing and whether there is a public interest in that work.

None of the purple picks have gone away, they all get categorized as singles when the week ends.

I would rather it be used for it's oroginal purpose, before the word 'vault' was taken out of it's description.

Probably not, I have been jamming to this since last March when it was dropped.

Exactly... Was released on March 23rd... Why release it now, at all... And make it PPOTW? Makes no cents at all...

Well, outside the Prince community, and even a lot in the community, were simply not aware of it back in March. Prince is clearly trying to bring awareness to a larger audience with this official release. They will also be touring together very soon, so the release, the purple pick, the videos, the live shows, are all coming together to hopefully launch Judith in a new and more recognized direction. That is what Prince hopes I believe, hopefully it will work out for Judith in the long run, she certaintly is talented.

I hadn't noticed them being put into the categories, thus why I asked him. Plus, I can't keep paying for the streaming service so once I lose that, I lose access to the song. But I did appreciate him releasing it for download. Also, thought it was neat when he retweeted my request, later posted "Ask and ye shall receive" and posted the links to the t-shirts, and then an hour or so later, "Btw (link to FreeUrself) : )" Made me a happy girl any way, so now I'll have the song when I don't have Tidal any more.

I would love to hear some songs from the Vault too, but it could be a great tool for as I said. I think at this point, it's obvious we aren't going to get the songs from the vault. I know he's probably got some things in there that would blow my mind, but since he's changed it up, decided not to go Vault, then using this way isn't a bad idea.

Yeah, those millions of people eagerly awaiting his Purple Pick of the week would not have found out about this any other way.

Is this some kind of dig that he's not getting the money form Tidal which he hoped he would? lol

Completely something Prince would do.....saying something without saying it, he is a genius at that. Another wasted week.

I like the song, but I don't think that hardcore fans are the target audience for the PPotW. He's clearly trying to get the younger, streaming generation to find out about the back catalog. Maybe it works for him.

So much for Prince never looking back...

So many other older tracks to choose from too. Also why does this song say 2015?

Are they too dumb to go to Prince's Tidal page and listen to his back catalogue?

The target audience for PPotW is probably his oldest fans with dementia in some nursing home.

They are, in a way. People need gimmicks and shiny attractive stuff more than ever before. The younger generation depends on what's trending and/or new, hip and happening. Tidal is that for them, apparently. 1 million users is about 100,000 times more followers I have on Twitter, believe it or not. The lucky few enjoy good parenting and Prince is beaten into their system wink

The oldest fans have all the CDs and the middle aged fans know how to rip those to their digital devices, who of the old folks really cares about streaming? I know I don't...

Where can I get a hold of

Judith Hill - "Back in time" 24-bit HDAudio?

I've looked all over the Internet but without luck.
I have a subscription on Tidal but I want the 24-bit version.

Anyone have a clue?
