I'm addicted to Free Urself! I keep playing it back-to-back with Stare on an endless loop. I'm totally digging the effortless, unforced funk of both cuts. My head bobs and I smile ear-to-ear every time I play them. If they indicate the sound of the next album (PLEASE!), I cannot wait to get my hands on it because it has the potential to be something really special.

It's now available on iTunes

So what we're saying is, there really is no need to pay for a Tidal subscription unless you want to hear stuff first. At least I won't have to feel bad about doing trial memberships if I can actually buy the stuff elsewhere.

Yeah. Me too. On all counts.

I like it but am not playing it any more to avoid it being over played when it turns up on an album. Hardrocklover and X's face seemed to be well received at the time and I'm sure Hitnrun would have been better received if people weren't already so familiar with most of the 2nd half.

I haven't heard this song yet and it's stressing me out because everyone says they like it!

My laptop is in for a repair atm as I spilt tea on it (idiot, I know lol) so I have no desktop to go looking for it, I'm stuck with my ipod.

It's there for me, but make sure you search for free urself prince.

Also make sure you're in the iTunes Store app and not the Music app if you're on a verison of iOS which has Apple Music.

Yeah, it won't come up if you search for Prince or look at his catalog. You have to specifically search for Prince Free Urself.

Yes! I put it before Stare on my iPod & they go really good together.

Yeah I was thinking it sounded similar to Act Of God in places.

but prince already had that freedom a while back, in fact pretty much since 2000, didn't he?

it's probably fastest to have your own website, like he had 3rdeyetunes.com and he put up
"that girl thing" the day after he recorded it (or so they/he claimed).

i guess with tidal it would take at least a little bit to trickle through the works onto the site.
although with tidal he does reach a bigger audience i guess.

yeah 3rdeyetunes.com reaches a much narrower audience than TIDAL, plus TIDAL is for life if it sustains, and my guess is that Prince will be dropping bombs on us weekly/monthly for the next year!

Tidal is for life?!? I wouldn't count on that. My guess is that over the next year there is no chance you will get 12 releases from Prince, much less 52.

Stare, Free Urself and The gold standard works well together imo smile I hope the next album will be released next month already and it would be a good idea if they wants us to stay on Tidal

I was in the Itunes app store and when a made the search it only came up with some podcasts about relieving your self, spiritually. I tried both 'prince free yourself', 'Prince free urself', and even 'free yourself prince' but it was a no show. Maybe I am closet luddite and don't even know it lol

V10LETBLUES

I love the the extended end. I have always liked the open spaces he creates on his extended cuts. The song itself sounds forced and claustrophobic. His vocal delivery now alwasy has this "reading it from cue cards for the very first time" feel to it. Just doesnt flow.

I played it a few times so far, but only after the 2:26 mark. Yes his singing and lyrics and arrangement are sorely lacking. But what else is new.

This song was played for us on the Paisley Park tour at the Hitnrun International Party. I asked the studio rat if we'd hear a live per4mance later tonight and he said, you'll have to wait and see. We waited til 3am to see.... nothing...

Great song though!

This was played for us in the studio at Paisley, and we were told it was brand new. Probably wasn't done before hitnrun was released.

Loving it, loving it, loving it. I also have the track on repeat. On such a purple high I also bought the new shirts from 3rdeyetunes & even the Baltimore one!!
Let's hope HitNRun Phase 2 comes out very soon & he doesn't change his mind.
An extended version of this & HardRockLover would be good choices for him to play at the forthcoming Tidal gig. Great promotion for him & Tidal. I'm sure the viewing figures will be huge!!

"Third Apartment From The Sun"

Obviously referencing Earth (which Hendrix had used before on Third Stone From The Sun and a sitcom Third Rock), BUT . . .

The way I interpret Prince's specific apartment lyric is that -- like most apartments -- this (Earth) is only a temporary home for us before finding a more permanent home later (afterlife). If Prince did that by accident, perhaps to differentiate from the Hendrix line, then kudos to him.

I was hoping that it was recognizing that other apartments in other neighborhoods may be housing some one ... As apartments are ripe with neighbors.

I also like the where we've come from and and how far we've gone lines. They seem to reflect all of mankind/life as well as 'this that and the other relatively more recent' struggles.
