Loving it, loving it, loving it. I also have the track on repeat. On such a purple high I also bought the new shirts from 3rdeyetunes & even the Baltimore one!! Let's hope HitNRun Phase 2 comes out very soon & he doesn't change his mind. An extended version of this & HardRockLover would be good choices for him to play at the forthcoming Tidal gig. Great promotion for him & Tidal. I'm sure the viewing figures will be huge!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Keep Ur Mind In A Vertical Motion Always Looking Up.

As someone posted earlier, it might be wise to distance this one from HnR and let it live on its own proper Prince/Prince-produced album.

I had posted something similar in reply #135. I agree that this is his way of saying that this home is only temporary, eventually we do move on to a more permanent "Home" - makes me think of "Way Back Home"

3rd apartment from the sun, just another way to say "earth" but with the idea that we are merely renting this planet, we are not permanent residents.

It's not atheist. It is spiritual in nature, but things he has said before. This fits with eastern teachings. "Heaven on earth, right here" being present in this moment, no thought for tomorrow, no thoughts for yesterday. NowHere.

My bad...i wasn't trying to say it was Athiest. It just seems a man who thought he knew all the answers cuz he knew God has questions again...and questions similar to mine.

.

BobGeorge, I'm sorry. I know you weren't trying to say that this song was atheist in nature, but just did want to point out that is a very spiritual song which fits with the eastern teachings. I think everyone, regardless of religion or no religion at all, asks those same questions.

Dunno what's funnier:

- mister "I-don't-live-in-the-past" desperately trying to imitate his 1980s sound,

- or all the fans who accuse me of wanting Prince to repeat his 1980s sound (which I don't) falling over themselves to praise this not particularly remarkable track.

What's funniest is the person that always takes dumps on Prince and goes out of his away to post about it on the ORG, is the one that studies his musical legacy avidly and listens to the new songs, while still dumping on Prince everyday for 13 years.

Strange lonely lonely lonely man.

.

Amazing how much shit you made up just there. All because apparently my opinion is so important people were already waiting from it early in this thread, yet you can't stand that I dare to post it here.

.

Note that of course you failed to prove me wrong, and instead you launched a baseless personal attack. I'll take that as confirmation that I'm right.

I've been here since '98 (initially under another name) and Bart was here then. He's never been anything other than negative and disparaging about Prince's output in those 17 years. Speaks for itself really. I don't appreciate sychophants but if an artist hadn't remotely satisfied me in nearly two decades I'd be long gone.

I think I have one of the oldest avatars here.

Bart has toned it down considerably over the years his range of opinions on Prince's music has been:

pathetic

terrible

boring

half assed

botched

ruined

half decent

Not particularly remarkable

That's more or less in order so his opinion on this song is truly one of his least critical.

Free Urself must be a pretty good song.

Thanks Bart!

What I find really interesting, is that, the upward trajectory Prince was on, Purple Rain, Parade, SOTT, it seemed that with age his music would be getting that more sophisticated. I mean Paul McCarthy had a good long run after the beatles releasing so interesting tracks. Much more so Jhon Lennon.

So to see Prince go from a genius to fallinginlovetonite-like tracks after his 87 zenith is quite jarring. I always felt he suffred a stroke or something becasue that stuff is so far beneath him and really any artist without an extra chromosome 21.

I feel ya.

But also...fallinlove2nite is not the only kind of music he's in the middle of making. Not to long ago he finished putting Judith's album together...he recorded more than a rock albums worrth of music withna couple of rookies and a bass player...indifference included. Supported Liv. Made a party record with another rookie. Had a jazz act in the works. Blackwell split for a tour so I suppose NPGQ is done with...

One could say he's spread himself too thin. But I see it more as instead of going from deep in one idea and making one piece of über complicated or complex music, he's living music. Different kinds, constantly. Day in day out with seeming little rest. Creating, producing, rehearsing, in all manners of generes. Challenging himself in a manner of breadth vs. depth. That amazes me as much as one super Crystal Ball. I don't suspect at all that all we've heard is all he's done. Don't forget he threw Groovy Potential at us for no reason other than it was damn good.

It's easy to look at hitnrun and be like this sucks...that mess was tailor made for Tidal. Scope all He's up to...that's what amazes me. From princes perspective... It's one measly record out of more than forty. Not everything gotta be career defining. Rest assure his short attending soan and ego will bring him back around to a focus on depth vs. breadth.

But I totally understand your complaints and some of the work he does that I'm not into...frustrates me. But...apparently.. Some people love that fallinlove2nite shit...he's still making trax like Groovy Potential tho...

Uplifting, positive and on point through the funky conduit which continues to be Xperimental Prince in my opinion. Love how he still keeps us busy with deciphering his lyrical delivery as in "3rd apartment from the sun". (Thanks to those who shared this concept btw.) I myself dig the track. It's a breath of fresh air from the electronical HITnRun, although I've somewhat grown friendly with it. Definately think it's a prequel to Phase 2 and I don't think he needs a buffer from HnR to release. Bring it on, Purple One - come wit' it!

I, like others, thought of "3rd Rock From The Sun" when I heard the lyrics... lol
