Well fuck me sideways and call me Susan. What a palate cleanser! If there had been no HNR would I think this so amazing? Anyway. Doesn't matter...fucking amazing...this, Stare, Indifference (tho maybe that's a threeeyedgirl song?) - hope that lovely artwork sees the light of day (the watercolour). Hopefully Josh is locked under the stairs with his fucking owl.

biggrin wait till Josh gets back from lunch - we'll have Curly Fryz on it, lasers and chimp noises

Sounds like you're the one that needs to get over something champ. You're what, the 170th comment and everyone likes it and there's just two people who said they'd not be surprised if it was a vault track. Doesn't seem worthy of you getting your knickers in a twist eh? You need a hug?

Did I complain about the negative reactions to the song? I don't think so. Read a post carefully before commenting with bullshit wink

Totally diggin this song! Am I the only one who thought this song was going to be a guitar heavy song when they heard the title a few months back? In the end I'm glad it isnt that...

Also, now for some strange reason at the end of this song I hear U're Gonna C Me starting right after....it works quite well actually cool

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

If he can't do it himself there's always iTunes, Amazon whatever. Even Tidal if they want to add selling downloads without requiring a subscription. Just sayin', you want my money, at the very least let me download & keep the track offline. I'm not interesting in renting a stream and the issues with Tidal I mentioned above have done nothing to change my mind on this. But, that's cool. I'm pretty sure I'll still get to hear everything.

Not with the up-front payment Josh alluded to in one of his interviews. He had that freedom with the Kobalt deal too, but he walked away from it apparently because of the lack of up-front money (at least that's what Funkenberry hinted at in one of his Spreecasts). Also, Prince has shown time and time again that he doesn't have the patience or commitment to run a business long-term. Better to let a consumate businessman like Jay Z take care of that and just pay for Prince to produce his music.

Yep, very. It gets boring hearing people get really upset over other folks opinions on Prince music, particulary when those opinions are not even being expressed in the first place Totally unnessesary.

Wow! If you can't hear the 80's vibe you're not listening. It has elements of Teacher, Teacher, Splash, Neon Telephone and the main instruments: drums, synths, and guitar are screaming 85/86 outtakes.

oh i've listened smile but honestly, if i'd heard this track totally on it's own without knowing when
it was recorded or what the org thinks about it, i'd still say:

it sounds a bit 2012, it has elements of Rock n Roll Love Affair (which i love) and i can hear a
huge nod to Superconductor (which i like a lot). it has that prince with a slight twist feel to it
that he got from being around Andy Allo.

a nice track, a breezy track. but nothing about it screams 80s prince to me. what exactly is it
that makes people think it sounds so 80s? just the use of synths or other instruments?

the only thing it really sounds like is most of his post warners output, but with a little bit more

variety toward the end, changing it up a bit more. he's been doing that the past 4 years or so,
throwing 'weird stuff, like prime era prince' changes into the songs to liven them up. but all of
the 'weird' is still thoroughly filtered through the post 1995 aesthetic.

nothing wrong with that, i like that. it just seems rather quiet and demure after the assault on
the senses that is HNR. i'm really hoping for an entire album in the vein of RNRLA/Stare/FREE.
bring on 'phase 2' *yay*

fingers crossed there's actually 3 phases and we'll get a 3EG album too, with Indifference on it drool

My first impression was it had an 80's feel to it and the old school fans would like it but I can also hear what you say - a bit of RNRLA and Superconductor.
.
I don't think I've seen so much praise for a new song on here.
.
Would be great to get Phase 2 soon with this and the likes of Stare and Revelation.

You have to admit this was a smart business strategy, tho. Releasing something as God awful as HitNRun so we'd all think anything that came after is great!

Ok, I listened it a lot of times today. I think it is very poppy bubble gum 1984 bobble song.

I love it.

For some reason itt reminds me "strange way to say I love u".

The only part I love less is the "gospel" ending, but anyway.

Oh I listen quite well. I don't disagree that it has elements of those songs. Teacher Teacher was actully the 1st thing that came to mind when I heard it. Thing is I don't think those 85/86 outtakes had an real 80's vibe to begin with. They are and were in a genre of their own in my opinion. At the time it was a big departure from Controversy to PR. That's what was cool about those outtakes.

.

So yes it has a Prince 85/86 outtake vibe for sure. Just saying I don't think the song sounds like an 80's song in general. Just my personal take on it.

Your opinion is like death and taxes, inevitable. But on the positive side, you managed not to say "You lot" or "fams".

I'm touched.
