Last year, I predicted Prince won't never enter BB200 again

...And once again I will be proven right.

I also said Prince won't release any physical album anymore. I was right again, because this release is a so-called exclusive Tidal. The physical album is only available in France, with a release date that changes everyday...

37 minutes of music, most of the song last about 3 minutes. Prince hopes by then to maximise his profits, because the casual listener won't listen more than that.

Really sad to see Prince on a jay Z streaming service. IF Prince hadn't screw up his own business it should have been Jay Z nowaday being released on a Prince streaming service. What a failure.

How can you AGAIN be proven right when you said he won't EVER enter the BB200? You'll need to wait forever to be proven right just once.

Have to say, you have an odd view on Tidal. Was Prince ever interested in setting up a spotify-rival streaming service? Why should he have focussed his efforts on that?

...that's another prediction that we'll need to wait forever for until you're proven right (or at least a couple of weeks for you to be proven wrong!).

Otherwise, way to go. Do you attribute your stunning insights to mystical powers or good old fashioned hard work?

Also, not sure what the point of the "37 minutes" comment is? Conciseness has it's advantages. If you don't like the album, fair enough, but merely criticising an album on it's length (and, I feel by implication, holding yourself up as somehow better than a "casual listener") seems flawed - there's a fair portion of what I would say are some of the greatest albums of all time (Revolver, Pet Sounds, ...hell, ever Dirty Mind) which clock in at less than this!

Love and hugs!

Because they sold the full versions to the CIA. They're going to use them as a replacement for waterboarding.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I love your logic.

Prince releases an album via Tidal and you decide you're right... not just once, but for the rest of time. While also acknowledging there is a planned physical release - which is what you said wouldn't happen.

The U.S. release is Sept 14... So there will be a PHYSICAL RELEASE.

Prince had two BB top 10 albums just last year and you really think he'll never crack the top 200 again? This is the kind of thread people bookmark to bring up later

1. No mystical powers, just logic. He won't have any promotion anymore, and BB200 rules have changed, it is now in part based on streaming and that's why good digital and physical sellers are let down in the new charts. id'like to be proven wrong.

2. You are quoting albums that were released at the time when vinyl was the major format, and a vinyl lenghts is about 47 min. Nowadays, CD's lenght is 80 min, and digital allow you to put infinite music on it. When an artist in 2015 is not able to put more than 37 minutes of music in a disc, he hasn't much to say artistically. And HIT N RUN is not SGT PEPPERS lol how can you compare that to the Beatles ?

Moreover you didn't cease the signification of it. The songs last about 3 minutes in order to increase the numbers of listenings, because nobody in TIDAL would listen 6 minutes of Prince.

Love and hugs too !

BB 200 rules changed some weeks after that, it is now based in part on streamings.

The PRR could have been a huge success if it was released in 2014 for the 30th anniversary with good marketing. But it will never happen. I also said that Warner wasn't interested in releasing PRR in a physical format since Prince is not involved.

Moreover, with the new Billboard rules, if people listen to streaming services songs from the album (let's say WHEN DOVES CRY), nobody knows exactly where the numbers will go : to PURPLE RAIN, or to to THE VERY BEST OF, or to another best of ? This isn't clear.

A release that were not planned, then scrapped, then planned again, and finally the release dates change everytime. I will buy it when it will be released, but I will believe it when I see it.

The album likely won't chart just off of Tidal streaming numbers, but a physical/iTunes release would put "HitNRun" on the BB200, possibly even top ten depending on the week. Streaming can make the difference between certain positions (like Madonna's "Rebel Heart" outselling the 'Empire' soundtrack but still finishing second thanks to Empire's high streaming numbers) but sales are still the biggest factor on the BB 200. That will eventually change as streaming becomes more dominant, but for now Prince is fine. His albums will chart lower (maybe top ten pure sales but only top 30 or so on the BB 200) but they will still chart. The sky hasn't quite fallen yet, Chicken Little.

It's funny another internet social media made teen star Troye Sivan just released an album and even though he has hundred of million youtube views, millions and millions of twitter instagram vince and social media followers, his latest album debuted at #5 with only 45,000 copies sold...

AOA sold more in it's first week and Prince has almost no social media exposure... It shows you he can still outsell some artists even when they are at their own primes in terms of exposure and popularity.

lol some albums lost 50 or 60 ranks in the BB200 because of the new rules.

Which albums? lost 50 or 60 places in the rank? The ones at the bottom of the top 200? The ones selling a couple of thousand copies?

Of course they did! because why would you rank an album selling 2,000 units above an album getting 10 million streams?

I remember having this conversation with you at the time. The chart is only partly based on streams. They need 1,000 streams to count as 1 "unit sold". Do the maths. An album would need 45 MILLION streams in ONE WEEK to equate 45 THOUSAND units sold.

When broadband becomes ubiquitous and 100% free. That might happen.

Seems like an independent NPG release... Will this count towards the BillBoard charts and be released on iTunes as well?
