Is Prince's Worst Music still better than 95% of current music? I used to always say that Prince's worst music is still better than 95% of the stuff out there. I wasn't a big fan of 20ten or Plectrum Electrum, but I would say that either album was better than 95% of any other albums that came out those years. I could say the same for Batdance or Diamonds & Pearls, which I would put near the bottom of his output.
I cannot say that about HitNRun. HitNRun is probably worse than the majority of albums that came out this year. I was listening to some crap on the radio by Chris Brown the other day and I said this crap is actually better than HitNRun.

How can crap be better than other crap , it's all crap right. Meaning all is none listenable. I agree with you HitNRun is a disappointment to me too, i would say most of the crap by Prince is about 75% better than most music today.

I would have said that before HitNRun.

It's really awful. A very sad time to be a prince fan.

Prince could break wind into a microphone and record better music than more than 95% of what is out there now. There is NO ONE even close to being his equal. This is why so much is expected of him and when he compromises the product with unqualified punk kids, it is disappointing. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

There is nothing wrong with going in a new and modern direction. Bowie did it with Let's Dance and it worked. This is the biggest failure of Prince's career. This is worse than Daddy Pop. Worse than the horrific raps on the symbol album. Worse than the Grafiti Bridge movie. Worse than all the Dougie Fresh nonsense at his concerts in the late 90's. All of those cringe worthy moments, were just moments but there were other redeeming qualities about those projects. I'm actually thinking that the song with the Curly Fryz might be best song on the album other than HardRockLover. That is a pretty low bar.

there is a LOT of good music out there I LOVE Prince music but in general in the last 20 years I don't think I can say just because it is Prince that it is better than a lot of other stuff out there. . still a huge fan of meshell ndegeocello Gary Clark jr John Mayer still does some pretty good music HUGE jazz fan in general and some feel good House music(love remixes) Black Science Orchestra, M.A.W. Louie Vega Peven Everett love Robert Francis stuff I LOVE FDeluxe music There is a LOT of good music out there.

Exactly. This is why I'm no fan of Josh. I like new music and young artists as much as anybody. Josh and Prince, production upgrades aside, just aren't writing good songs. I can think of at least 10 modern R&B acts that are light years ahead of this combo, and yes Chris Brown is one.

Anything that Prince does is better than the crap that Chris Brown releases

I never needed to tell myself stuff like that.
I'm interested in his whole career more than in any single album. And this is a Prince n Josh record.
He produced at least 35 albums on his own or nearly so. Compare that with other multi-decade acts, the guy has earned the right to give a chance to a young producer and piss off the Guardians of The Purple Legacy.

I think the problem right now is that Prince's latest music sounds just like 95% of the horseshit out there. Well, or whatever horseshit was out there in 2006. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I believe HitnRun is his worst ever, and I don't think it's better than anything out there right now.

I don't know if it's just because I'm a lot longer than a lot of the org, but I like a lot of music being released right now. Certainly there's a lot of junk on pop radio, but in 2015 there's been a huge amount of really good stuff released that imo is really pushing boundaries in a way Hitnrun isn't, nor a lot of Prince's material lately. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

It's Josh and Prince, just like PLEL was Prince and 3eG.
The way I see it is that he decided to give back and he's supporting young talent, teaching them the ropes just like someone taught him when he was himself just starting and released albums like For You and Prince -- two albums I have great affection for but that were not the best thing out there at the time
He's lending his name and fame and that might upset his longtime fans, but he's secure enough to do so knowing all but us Purple Purists will be a little upset. Everyone else that still knows his name will just keep on respecting him as the great musician he is and not judge him like he was a fledging new star about to foolishly ruin his reputation.

Josh won't be around for long. Nobody in Prince's camp ever is, even the best of the best.

Se7en said: Josh won't be around for long. Nobody in Prince's camp ever is, even the best of the best. Why would Josh be around forever? I don't think that's the plan for anyone, everyone expects to move at some point in a work relationship these days and even more likely as a Prince associate.

Exactly. I love Prince because he used to be different. Now he follows trends and records music that I always avoided like the plague. [Edited 9/16/15 19:46pm]

HitNRun is P's worst LP since Chaos & Disorder...that said...yes its still better than most everything else ive heard recently...which is not alot, since i avoid most of today's garbage music...D'Angelo's lp was nice but thats the only thing even remotely comparable...you know music is at a very low point when Drake and Kanye West and some clown named young thug are top dogs...

I thought about it the other day. If Prince was jumped from 1999 in Batman, I would never have heard Prince. I say this with great honesty. All production later, also interesting, as O +>, The Truth, NEWS, The Rainbow Children, live on the assumption that there is that core lucky album: Purple Rain, Around The World In A Day, Parade, Sign "or" The Times , Black Album, Lovesexy and derivatives. Those are the Albums of Prince. If today I'm still listening Prince, it is not because Prince continues to make music enviable as that of the past, but because, although it can not, can not, or has decided not to have more lucky that perfection of the eighties, however, he enjoys explore other areas, do other things musical, make me feel the "new directions" *compared to the heart of its production*. The Truth, NEWS, The Rainbow Children, The Gold Experience and all of our other albums make sense only and only because I can compare them with gold nucleus and I enjoy as the musician of Sign 'o' the Times is going to do an instrumental album symphonic jazz or ballet. With this in mind I enjoy HITNRUN. I see it as another solar ray that part away from that core, unattainable, lost, going in a direction that I never thought. Is not About To Stop is a fun song because I imagine that Prince starts doing something like forgetting all he has done it before. The gold nucleus is lost: Prince tried to mock it again from 2004 to 2010 and has managed very badly. At best have come out of the albums with songs photocopy, nostalgic, and fake already after a few listens. This new albums, co-produced, have already generated two or three new songs. Entirely new. Unexpectedly beautiful: June, Way Back Home. I prefer these errors that the autopilot of the "prince of funk".

I have no idea what the music of today sounds like. I have the music that I listen to and none of it makes a dent in any charts. I know I cant stand the kind of RnB that is so popular in my neck of the woods. Im not a big fan of the African beats we get around here either. Is HNR worse than that? No way.... well, except for FIL2N which makes a talentless, no rhythm bongo drummer sound like John Blackwell. But besides that, it isnt even Prince's worst album by a long way. That title still goes to MPLSound or Planet Earth. HNR is just a shallow, but fun, collection of songs with the entrails of a dead rat stuck in the middle of it.

U mean as a comparison to the 95% major acts out there? Doubt anyone listens that far, but most commercial music has been rubbish for years now- whether indy or pop. That said Hit 'n' Run is Prince's worst CD release yet. It's right down there with Xpectation c-NOTE Chocolate Invasion the Slaughterhouse (ya know NPGmc material)A bit of a generalization but this Josh seems to be like his wife- very extroverted and they don't tend to make the greatest music composers, less still producers. The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

I hope Prince comes to his senses and gives us quality music again but I'm afraid it won't happen until hes approaching 70 lol Welcome 2 The Dawn

I can't see him having the clarity, focus, self awareness, critical eye to put together a quality album anymore. He's way too self indulgent and lacks judgement to deliver a solid album. How long has it been? Let's face it--"PlanetEarth"/"Mplsound"/"20Ten"/"Plectrum Electrum"/"HITNRUN"--is a horrific run of albums.
