Apart from the fact that it's cringingly embarassing to have people lusting for jewel-boxes, Prince only goes and uses his first one in aeons with a sleeve design that really should be in the 'cereals' section of Tower Records (sorry...showing my age there)

What is this I see? A CD? In a shop? My eyes must be deceiving me....!

Omg...an actual jewel case and no paper sleeve!

I love your logic.

Prince releases an album via Tidal and you decide you're right... not just once, but for the rest of time. While also acknowledging there is a planned physical release - which is what you said wouldn't happen.

A release that were not planned, then scrapped, then planned again, and finally the release dates change everytime. I will buy it when it will be released, but I will believe it when I see it.

Well, Rod I hope your eyes are open:

No...didn't you hear....there's an app that fakes pics like this . these r all fakes...like some of the pics of promos people have taken....lol.

People r so jaded by Prince, they insist real stuff is actually fake so it still fits in their world of disdain.

It's sad.

ROD may have a small point though...

I don't think this is a mass distribution deal rather than an independent release. Meaning it hasn't been available on iTUNES, etc...

So it will be interesting to see what position debuts on the Billboard 200 if it makes it on at all...

I'd be surprised if he was counting on this being a big hit since Josh said this one was for the hardcore fans, with zero irony.

If Prince is about to release one or two more albums I'd be surprised he was counting on this one to bat one right out the park.

The prediction seems wrong since Prince charted 2 albums last year and is releasing a CD on Monday. So this thread seems pointless . Next!

He is releasing a CD where it's not on iTunes, amazon, or any sites. Only TIDAL and a surprise unannounced release... It's independent release as well so we will see if it does indeed make the BB top 200 in the first week of sales.

Also let me add Plectrum Electrum was off the BB 200 chart by it's 3rd week...

Isn't it possible the downloads & the cd will pop up on Amazon & iTunes on Monday?
I mean that makes sense to me.

That seems likely. Prince gave Jay and Tidal and black-owned businesses all the publicity, and now he's going to quietly slip it into the physical and digital shops to make a small bit of extra cash. Oh, and as it relates to the topic...if Prince sells as few as 10,000 copies (less than a quarter of what AOA sold) he will be in the top 40 of the Billboard 200 next week. The #40 album this week did just over 9,000 copies, INCLUDING STREAMING. So there.

2. You are quoting albums that were released at the time when vinyl was the major format, and a vinyl lenghts is about 47 min. Nowadays, CD's lenght is 80 min, and digital allow you to put infinite music on it. When an artist in 2015 is not able to put more than 37 minutes of music in a disc, he hasn't much to say artistically. And HIT N RUN is not SGT PEPPERS lol how can you compare that to the Beatles ?

Moreover you didn't cease the signification of it. The songs last about 3 minutes in order to increase the numbers of listenings, because nobody in TIDAL would listen 6 minutes of Prince.

Love and hugs too !

[Edited 9/11/15 0:48am]

...yes vinyl enforced limitations but I fundamentally disagree that length and quality equate. Also, show me where I compared Hitnrun to the Beatles in any artistic sense? I never even mentioned Sgt Pepper (which, as an aside, is way over-rated!).

P.s. I've just streamed The War on Tidal...all 26 minutes of it, so there's at least 1 person on Tidal who would listen 6 minutes of Prince (and more!).

It was distributed by NPG and ROC Nation, so it wasn't like he did this behind Jay's back...

Yeah...I love it when people think up these somewhat malicious speculations, only to have them blown outta the water when the whole story comes to light. I get that we, as fans, like to know, or think we know what's going on. I think it's best if things are let to play out vs. pretending we know. Otherwise, we end up looking like more of an asshole than Prince.

He still will be on the BB200 at least for this year... But in a couple years if he keeps making it hard to find his music online, social media, etc... He will just be obsolete to the NEW GENERATION, not talking about his legacy, or w/e but to the new generation he will be completely lost in time...

For now HitnRun will debut on the BB 200 but making it his lowest debut of all time:

According to Hits Daily Double 91% of the sales have been calcualted so far and the first week sales of HitnRun at this point are:

#36 HitnRun: 4,481

Ok...so things that don't make a lot of money is what he doesn't sell a lot of....awwshucks.

meanwhile...his tix for shows sell for sizable amounts and they sell well and often sell out...with no notice...or as little notice as is possible.

So much for rodserling's ability to predict Prince's career.
Predicted no physical release and HITNRUN would
never be in the Top 200.
WRONG on both accounts.

The album likely won't chart just off of Tidal streaming numbers, but a physical/iTunes release would put "HitNRun" on the BB200, possibly even top ten depending on the week. Streaming can make the difference between certain positions (like Madonna's "Rebel Heart" outselling the 'Empire' soundtrack but still finishing second thanks to Empire's high streaming numbers) but sales are still the biggest factor on the BB 200. That will eventually change as streaming becomes more dominant, but for now Prince is fine. His albums will chart lower (maybe top ten pure sales but only top 30 or so on the BB 200) but they will still chart. The sky hasn't quite fallen yet, Chicken Little.

Yes, HITNRUN finally charted ! Holy miracle. My bad. i bought it on day one on store.

But we are far from top 30. It shows the discrepancy between "real charts" (#34) and "streaming added charts" (#70). A difference of 36 ranks is not a little thing, especially on first week of release.

Anyway, the sales are even worst than that of AOA and PLEC ELEC last year. Maybe this week it will chart at # 130 or something. Nothing to brag about.

I should have stick to the "won't make the top 40" but I wanted to create some controversy, because nobody here except feeluup and me care about sales. But the truth is that the fanbase of Prince is about 20.000 people worldwide.

Now, I'm eager to see how things will turn for this doomed deal between jay Z and Prince.
