It's a bomb all right. As film makers go, Prince is a hell of a musician.

you think Diamonds and Pearls is too corny and "Strollin" is the hill you choose to die on with that record? It's the goofiest, corniest song on the album, including "Jughead". Speaking of Jughead, if that song were an instrumental it would destroy. It gets way too much hate.

I prefer the new, slowed down version of Little Red Corvette to the original.

I've thought long and hard and I can't find anything that I like that's potentially embarrassing.
Of course Violet won't agree.

"Strollin" is probably my favorite song on that album! it's a nice, mellow, mesmerizing little track.

Prince saw his first horse with an erection in 1987. It took him by surprise and he obsessed over it for a couple of years. You should Google it, it is well documented. Prince is secretly a Brony. For those who don't know what that is, urban dictionary it. You're welcome. As for my most embarrassing Prince fan moment...I once filmed myself with a fake beard I drew on in eyeshadow dancing to the song Graffiti Bridge. It's on YouTube but it's on private. I sent it to my friends when they are down in the dumps And before anyone asks no I'm not linking it here lmao it's a cringefest and a half.

hahaha. I know, it defies all logic! Seriously though, Strolling' just seems to have an air of.... I guess honesty would be the word. No boasting, no bragging, no "I'm a sex machine" or "I'm a guitar rock god" posturing, just a simple song about having an easy going day......

i NEVER listen to Purple Rain, on CD or wax or mp3...i like "Take Me With You and Computer Blue and When Doves Cry...but not enough to play them on my own...only time i really hear these songs is when im watching the movie for the millionth time

NPS is the album that solidified my Prince fandom. I'll listen to any track all the way through one I find out he ends it with screams, squeals, etc. I really don't understand why Emancipation discs 1 & 3 exist. Disc 2 as a standalone is one of Prince's most powerful and focused efforts.

I'm not that crazy about the song "Purple Rain".Like someone else said,it works well in the movie, but I don't listen to it anywhere else.I never liked big arena rock ballads....those bore me.It's too long and overblown.

Hmmm, I love Emancipation but disc 2 isn't without its flaws. Emale, Lets Have A Baby and Sex In The Summer are all filler imo.

There was a thread about controversial opinions, didn't post, seems like the thread to do it in now. Outing myself. I absolutely despise Around The World In A Day and Parade. Save for a few songs on each, but as a whole...

The flaws are what give me an air of superiority over his creative direction, which gives this longstanding relationship its balance. And anyone who would seriously consider buying a full Tony M album, please let it be known. It would save me the heartache of even attempting to be your friend. [Edited 9/27/15 14:25pm]

Now if that ain't poetry ... When he says "the syncopated rhymes are at their peak/when"'I always hear "the syncopated rhythm of the penguin". To this day I maintain that a). The Syncopated Rhythm of the Penguin is a metaphysical concept that has inspired all of Tony M's music, and b). that somewhere deep in the vault is the recording of a 25-minute Prince and Tony M freestyle rap battle, of which penguins and their syncopated rhythms are the only subject. I'm not joking. OT: I don't think Prince is substantially worse as a songwriter than he was in the 80s. Far less daring and innovative, sure, but no less capable of doing what he's already good at. Of course, whether he should stick to what he knows or try to do something completely out of his comfort zone is a different matter.
