Yes I changed the title when I saw the numbers... Very low numbers.

The numbers were 91% in, so thats not too "partial".

There was no confusion, PRINCE played his games again making a press release how it will be streamed only on TIDAL than by fans demand a "surprise" release with very little time to promote it. So the numbers are what they are, another full week of sales won't change anything, it still will be his lowest debut and probably his lowest selling album of all time. N.E.W.S only sold 40,000 in the U.S. and so far based on the first week's sales it will take a promotion miracle to even come close to the sales of N.E.W.S.

... and for the people complaining about they don't care about sales... Do you want to wait another 4 years for a proper PRINCE album to be released because he is having a hard time distributing for a physical release when his albums can't push any substansial numbers to make a profit for the other side... That's why sales are crucial at this point of his career, because it will dictate if he's able to release the music he wants when he's already a legacy act.

Changing the thread title is nevertheless intellectually dishonest, shows u were just hoping for low sales to change the title as soon as possible.

In other words, this thread was a pony trap from the beginning. It was never meant to list information about the album's sales but always meant to make a point that sales were low. This is manipulation and could even be considered trolling.

There is no need for the title of sales thread to mention whether they are high or low, particularly when the record's been out for less than a week and depending on how promo goes things could change (not that I think the album's gonna be a hit, just talking in general).

People are intelligent enough to decide for themselves whether the figures they read are low or high.

U can't tell me what i meant to post or not. You can't tell me what my intention or thoughts were... You're the one with a high IQ remember... Yet u think MPLS Sound is a good PRINCE album. lol lol

Even if they were mindblowing u'd still find an angle to say they're poor, or then u'd find a way to explain that they're good despite Prince. shrug

A certain amount of people are only on the org for this weird anti-Prince propaganda campaign. I don't really get it, what's in it for y'all. It doesn't mean u guys can't bring insightful contributions every once in a while, u do sometimes, Bart does often, others do, but overall it's just propaganda and therefore it's nearly impossible to have a non-biaised conversation with u guys shrug

I'm not really interested in this, I'd rather have a forum free of propagandists where we can have honest debates and get past KG level insults à la "u claim to be smart and yet u like NPS" rolleyes

But I'm the dumbest of all in the end because I fall for trolling games every time when I'd better ignore 'em the way other, wiser than me orgers do...

So my bad.

Peace hug

It would be unprofessional for a 'professional source' not to say something positive. That's how the game works. Usually the criticism is delivered in highly muted tones. The fact that some publications delivered whole paragraphs of negative criticism speaks volumes. That's the equivalent of completely trashing the album, no matter how much praise the album received in other parts of the review.

I could write a PhD thesis on reviewing -- this place was pre-pissed about Hit NRun and the Tidal deal, I don't think it's a good place to find balanced views.

It's on Prince to please his fanbase. It's not on the fanbase to please Prince. Nobody owes their objectivity or reason to Prince.

Prince is not on the radio, is not on tv, ergo his albums aren't going to sell Taylor Swift numbers. Whats the surprise? I don't understand your obsession with his sales. He's obviously happy with what he made from the deal that he's moved on to promote Judith's album.. so why care so much about it?

Strange whenever someone posts sales numbers on PRINCE it's always the ones who react in the "why do you care so much" way, are the real "obsessed" ones...

lol

My point is rather, why do you take it personally? Its not like it affects you personally right? But you write as if you're emotionally invested in his wellbeing. I enjoy Linus's chart threads quite a bit because for him the data is data, he's not treating it as though he's watching his own stock investments go up and down.

Change it one more time..

It's not personal to me. If I say HitnRun had low sales it's because the data and numbers show the sales are low. I research the data, get the sources and post it... Yet whenever I try to talk about sales people like you are the one's who take it personally, don't get it...

A stream cannot be sold?

How then does this count in the top-such-and-such?

The point I guess was that by definition Tidal users won't buy it and it may affect sales.

Anyway today with illegal downloads and pendrives I don't even know to which extent sales mean anything in terms of popularity. I know certain hip albums all my friends have, yet none of 'em bought the albums in the first place, they got 'em from friends or downloaded them illegally.

None of my friends actually buy records anymore and they haven't for a decade. Still they all listen to a lot of music. And I mean I know a shitload of people: save a few collectors who like nice shelves and usually buy more vinyls than CD's, none buy the music anymore. They go to the shows but they don't buy. Demographics of the people I'm talking about would be urban people, middle class, educated, both genders, 25-40 y.o. My dad is 76 and still buys CD's.

According to this article, 1500 streams counts as one "sale". So knowing that, even if there was a way to get that information from Tidal, it won't equate to large numbers of "sales". For there to be a high number of actual sales, those would come from physical CDs, iTunes, Amazon MP3, etc.

This is why what Taylor Swift did with 1989 worked so well -- she kept it off streaming sites so streaming would not cut into actual CD sales.

I won't say that streaming/YouTube/etc. is confusing, but it is complicated.

I rarely buy music unless I love the artist (like Prince).

If the streaming sites all band together and eliminate the free tier, that will change the game yet again. Would CD/MP3 sales climb back up, or fall even further?

Prince hasn't put out a GREAT classic album,since 1987..
Let's be honest here.. He was once the trendsetter from 1980 to 87..
His image & music worked amazing together during that time period..
Prince could do no wrong up until 1984..
In 1986 & 87.. Released the wrong second singles fron "parade" & sign..

Since 1989 on has been chasing trends ..
I think "lovesexy" bombing got him away from what he was doing creatively..
Prince lost people with that stupid name change & writing "SLAVE" on his face..
He hasn't had a top 10 hit since 1994..
When Prince lost his baby,in 1996, that lead to him being a JW in 1998..
He started to change lyrics & went nuts..

Prince used to have that mystic where he would stay quiet & not to interviews..
Now he has a big mouth about cops & race issues..

PRince will never have a great creative album never again..

He's had some good one's since 1990 but nothing groundbreaking..

The guy has no clue how to promote an album & is all over the place.

Yeah I also forgot to mention those people who don't even bother having a copy of the files at all and listen to Deezer and so on. The trend was growing but still small when I left France in 2010 but I assume it's grown a lot now nod

Prince should've done what Billy Joel did..
Stop recording new music when it became mediocore..
Billy has that mystic because almost everything he did was solid..
"River of Dreams" was shaky..
I'll stop right there..
Prince keeps putting out mediocore music at best..

It wasn't in last week's Billboard but will be in this weeks, probably debuting in the mid-20s. Unless I am wrong, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, album does not appear in Billboard the week it comes out but the next week. That doesn't make the sales any better but the album WILL chart, albeit briefly.

Naw- for the week of September 26 Billboard 200 is posted now---HITNRUN did not break the Top 200 sales charts.

I personally enjoy HITNRUN, but it has no future. Meanwhile, congratulations to WB's Duran Duran on scoring a Top 10 album with "Paper Gods"--an 80's act doing it the right way!
