This is so GROSS and ridiculous.

Without any sales figures at hand u post a thread titled "poor sales".

U're trying to disguise a propaganda thread into a facts thread.

No matter the figures that come-up u'll obviously find excuses to claim that the album sells poorly because that's the point u have decided to make in the first place and the whole thread is an excuse for you to make ur point.

No offense but this is just so dishonest, so intellectually disgusting sad

I changed the title once I saw the first sales figures of HitnRun which I did post if you didn't read it before jumping to conclusion...

So according to Hits Daily Double 91% of the sales have been calcualted so far and the first week sales of HitnRun at this point are:

#36 HitnRun: 4,481

So yes regardless if you make an argument saying it's only been released on Monday, you can add another week or two weeks the sales will still be LOW. Yes HitnRun sales are and will be poor. No propganda or disguising anything to make my point. There is no point, I'm not Bart. I'm just stating facts. HitnRun is and will be a commercial flop regardless if it sells another 20,000 copies, it will still be his lowest selling debut of all time. That's not opinion, it's based on the numbers that are coming in.

The sales are low because of many different reasons:

the strange date of release worldwide..monday

no promotion...except some interviews in the US press...focusing on Tidal streaming

no single, no video, no tv appearance

no iTunes start site banner ( for AOA there were a lot plus pre order possibility)

I think for Prince HitnRun is like a bonus album, not meant to be a big major Prince release (despite

his statement in interviews)

I can only speculate that Prince is working with 3RDEYEGIRL for their second album and I actually don't care about the sales figures of HITNRUN because Prince unlike a lot other artists doesn't have to tour to support a new album. He can release an album do a round of interviews with the press to promote it, repeat the cycle with each album etc. I Like HITNRUN as an album but Prince got paid upfront by TIDAL to stream the music exclusively for a week then release physical copies the following week. He has the freedom to walk away from promoting an album, especially an album that is so electronic based it would hard to reproduce that music with a band anyway. I'm surprised it sold as many copies as it has so far.

I agree...

The total sales of AOA for it being 2014 was not bad at all, sold an estimated over 200,000 world wide... Plectrum Electrum sales were real low... But HitnRun so far is looking to be his lowest seller, even lower than N.E.W.S.

An artist can't put out as many mediocre, self-indulgent, throwaway albums as Prince has the last 20 years and still expect to sell.

That's not to say there's hasn't been some good work over that time. But Prince wants to play by Prince rules, and Prince wants the freedom to release what he wants- simply the public isn't paying attention anymore.

Now, if Prince did what's best for him to get "sales"--he would have been active with "Purple Rain Remastered", and reassembled The Revolution and toured.

Instead he has "Plectrum Electrum" and "Hitnrun" and the results are what they are.

Also, the Prince community is one of the most piracy-adept there is and as a whole, the hardcore feels quite badly about Prince straying from the "Produced, Arranged, Composed & Performed by Prince" model.

It's too bad this album is selling so poorly but I ceased caring about his sales a long time ago since he clearly does not care to do the whole promo bit proper.

I hope sales are super low for HnR. As few people need to listen to this horrible album as possible. Why would I want more people to think that THIS garbage represents Prince? HnR should be buried in a landfill like that E.T. Atari game.

Isn't Amazon.com i a big seller of music? If so, I would think that to be in the top 10 would be considered very positive.

My local record store won't have it until tomorrow. So if an album is not widely available, it's not going to sell, right? I never thought Prince intended this to be a hit, more of a way to get rid of some stuff that was lying in the vault. Anyway, I'll give it a listen tomorrow and maybe I'll push up sales to 4482. wink

Final numbers show it at number 25 with 8762 units sold. This is only after 3 days sales right? How does this reflect where it will chart next week in Billboard, I forgot how HitsDaily Double worked.

Number seems low but albums in general don't sell any more. Top seller is 50,000 plus with a precipitous decline downward out of the Top 10. Prince is 57, not really on the cultural radar for his new stuff, and no singles equals no value proposition for the casual album buyer. 8,762 is certainly a big fall from the 3 million strong Prince army of a couple of decades ago but has the CD been mass released? Are there tons of copies in stores or 3-4? Are the hardcore dowloading it on Tidal and not buying the physical CD? I guess my question is how many hardcore Prince fans who will buy anything the man releases are still out there and are they buying the CD if available, not buying the CD but downloading it, or boycotting because they hear this or that or the other about it and they are sitting out this one?

He should have never promoted its "exclusive" release on a failing music streraming service, and by proxy associated himself with Madonna, Beyonce, Jay-Z and other 'elite' artists from the point of view of consumers. People are still turned off by the TIDAL launch earlier this year. An artist like Prince known for being a fringe artist with mass appeal now looks like part of the establishment he railed against. Sure, from his point of view, he *is* going against the system by supporting TIDAL. But, from the average consumer's point of view, TIDAL is an expensive, unremarkable streaming service meant to make rich artist richer.

He should have released this through traditional channels along with iTunes (still the world's biggest music retailer), Google, and Spotify.

There is no reason on earth that an artist of Prince's callibur should not have CDs of any album EVER released through global channels and made as widly available as possible.

At this point, Prince just needs to keep release high quality material that critics like, consistently. Eventually, the masses will catch on to it again--he insisted on released garbage for 10 or 15 years--that was his main problem.

Agree that is pretty huge and seems weird. My thought it that there has ALWAYS been the hardcore group (i.e. us on the Org) that has always bought first week, even the CDS we may have been reluctant about. The hardcore seems to have drifted to the 40-50 K level, makes sense that AOA sold 52,000. I could understand HNR selling 26 K, maybe the hardcore split in half somehow but there is no logical, rational reason why it should have just sold 8K. Can't wrap my head around it. This is not a quality issue, I know the Org is split in half (as most critics are) about how good or bad the album is. This number just does not make sense for anyone who follows Prince's sales.

All good things they say never last...

LMAO. Go ahead, Prince. Keep selling out to an audience who:

A: Barely know who you are due to your war on the Internet
B: Fucking hate Tidal and it's "help the poor, starving millionaires" attitude, so it makes sense to you to put your music there
C: Would rather listen to artists their own age over a 57 year old embarrassing himself (seriously, "thots"?)

...and continue to alienate your hardcore fanbase (pretty much the only one you have left) and watch your sales dwindle. Soon, the "sell CD's through the mailbox hole at Paisley Park" joke Jay Leno made might be a less a of a joke...
