MrWilson

Feeluup you care deeply and I admire you for this. In our eyes Prince should be more relevant than he is but he just isn't. It is so sad but that's just the way it is. Enjoy what you've got like I do and if you want feel sorry for everyone that's missing out.

This should ring a bell with mr Prince if he is anywhere near-sane and aware of these numbers.

Are there any streaming figures available? How many hits did it get on Tidal?

'Stare' was suprisingly well-streamed on Spotify, so I think this is more a question of promotion, network and access than people actually caring or not.

Stare was much better than anything on Hitnrun (well, except for 3 songs). Stare wasn' targeted at young mainstream music listeners like the shitmusic on his latest album.

Hopefully he realises that young folks don't care about his attempts at being hip again. He should care more about what his fanbase expects, or else nobody will care about him anymore.

Yes last weeks first week streaming figures added 2,000 plus sales in addition to the 6,000 phsyical sales. I'm not sure how many streams = 2,000 sales, but it wasn't a lot.

I read somewhere that 1500 stream=1 album sale that would b 3,000,000 streams which isn't bad at all.... cool

It's listed in Tidal's top 20 albums for whatever that is worth or if it's even a true representation of streams played.

For streaming it fell off the TOP 50 in the second week, meaning the streams don't even bring 1,000 sales..

Not impressive by any stretch but not a bad drop from 70-75...and with 1000 X and O making headyway on Urban AC radio maybe this will be something that will sell 6000 or 7000 a week for a while.

At least it didn't plummet out of the chart in week 2.

Lack of awareness is the reason for the low sales. No promotion on front page of itunes and not in any fliers for Best Buy, Target, Walmart etc. Peope here and other hardcore groups know but without the awareness that came with AOA and PE it's not going to get big sales. I think the original plan was Tidal only but when he heard of the complaning he changed the plan.

I wonder if Tidal has any data about how often the album has been played on their service? I've been streaming it quite a lot, but I also bought a copy at Barnes & Noble.

I vaugely answered someone's question 2 this... While I don't have the STREAMING NUMBERS, it has already fell off the top 50 for streaming including in the sales chart... The first week of streams equaled 2,000 sales, so I'm not sure how many streams that would've been.

But 2 answer ur question... Not many people are streaming HitnRun based on the second week sales of it being off the TOP 50 in streaming chart.

Week 3, 57% of Hitsdailydouble album chart reported and no sign of HNR. Not an indicator yet that it has fallen off the face of the earth but not a good sign either.

Which makes one wonder about how streams count into chart appearance.

Considering it's only available on Tidal, it's never going to show up on a top 50 streaming chart, especially considering Tidal's comparatively lower user base. The important part is that it's still listed in Tidal's top 20 albums.

The fact remains that the only outlet where it's available for streaming, it's in their top 20. You can't really expect any more than that.

for the very casual fan, the cover is perhaps also too much like AOA. i get them mixed
up myself if i'm only glancing, when they appear on the computer as small thumbnails.

the whole project feels like it doesn't have an identity or a sense of purpose. and i like
the bulk of the songs, so i'm not saying that as some disgruntled fan lol

30,000 copies worldwide is just rediculous. that's nothing to do with the music itself,

because a lot worse sells a lot better out there. it's about people not being aware of
his product, combined with a lot of people who are sick of playing the prince game, at

least as far as i can tell. 2 decades of strange marketing, weird releases and games
seem to be taking their toll. it's very sad to see, but it's largely prince to blame.

So far the two week worldwide sales are: 45,934.

But yes still very low I agree, most cause of the lack of marketing as usual...

Week 2 Billboard 200 at #75, not too much of a drop from first week being at #70.

This is why I get so frustrated with the man. On one hand he makes music that he thinks appeals to the mass market, and on the other hand doesnt give a fuck whether anyone hears it or not. The concept of HNR is very clear: he wants to make an album for the mainstream. So fucking promote it to the mainstream then. Otherwise, make an artistic statement and move on. The sales will be no worse.

I think there is one of two things happening. 1) He cant get his upfront money for albums that make artistic statements so he makes commercial albums that do attract investors into the project. Or 2) he is so hellbent on trying to cover every genre he can conceive and now it just happens to be commercial EDM's chance to enter into the discography. Either way, the art is getting lost somewhere. Hopefully the Free Urself single is part of a "this is what I actually want to create" album that isnt trying to pander to anyone other than himself. Time will tell.

Prince clearly doesn't care otherwise he'd put more effort into playing the promotion game. That's why I always chuckle when someone says he's desperate for a hit. If he was desperate he'd do more to make it happen.

Thizz

I have a question that probably doesn't need it's own thread so for those of you with physical copies of the album perhaps you are able to help out.

My question is - if you look at the credits are all of the mixing credits under Joshua Welton? Or was another engineer used for mixing?

Also who has the mastering credit for the album?

As for the sales, The covers inherent similarity to Art Official Age doesn't lend to triggering the mental curiosity the mind would have for a new product from one of music's most legendary acts
