Don't know where you are getting those numbers...

It debuted on #70 on Billboard you can check the link:

http://www.billboard.com/charts/billboard-200

and it sold 10,562 first week sales.

No,

10562 includes streaming and it comes from Hits Double Daily.

It has sold 6437 first week according to the official source Soundscan. Soundscan =Billboard.

Ok but it still entered at #70 on BB200, and the soundscan numbers are not including the streaming.

The most common response when it comes to sales... It doesn't reflect the quality of the album... NO ONE SAID IT DID!! Sales are sales. Sheesh.

Yes, #70 on B200 (Sales + streaming)

#34 (just Album sales)

I can't tell if you're trolling or not.

Multiple disc albums count as 2x or 3x the sales. That's how it's always worked. That wasn't Prince's idea.

The Musicology/ticket idea was a stroke of genius and led to Billboard having to re-assess how they count sales. Plenty of people have followed that model since.

Either it was the Slave Trade dvd or another that said otherwise.

So does that mean that 1999 and SotT counted as double sales too?

If so, I was unaware and stand corrected.

I believe the Musicology CD with ticket purchase was just a way to inflate album sale numbers (that could be considered genius) but has he done it since? hmph!

And I never troll so you don't have to wonder. kiss2

I believe the idea started with double CD's, but I could be wrong. 1999 was released on a single CD (in fact, the original CD omitted DMSR due to time constraints! Before longer duration CD's existed).

As for SOTT....

Multi-disc albums are counted once for each disc within the album if it is over 100 minutes in length or is from the vinyl era.

SOTT was 79minutes, so even though it's a double CD, it counts as one.

The Musicology model, he has indeed followed since. "Planet Earth" was included with all 21 nights in London ticket sales - hence why I've got about 10 copies of that album lol - However, after Musicology, Billboard changed the rules so that these type of sales don't count towards official figures. Yep - they changed the rules because of Prince, which I think is pretty awesome.

IMO if what you do causes an official body to have to change one of their rules, then there can be no doubt that this was an innovative move on his part.

I'm curious to know how much money Tidall lost on Hitnrun. They had to pay Prince a lot of money for it and they probably will never make their money back. He was supposed to be helping them, but I think he certainly got the better deal. They did not know that he was going to serve them a hot turd of an album.

I'm no cheerleader for HnR, but I honestly think this analysis of sales is a bit silly. Aside from the fact that so many diehard Prince fans checked it out on Tidal, many of the reviews and articles related to HnR discussed it as a Tidal exclusive. No mention of a CD for sale later. A member of the general public who has only a passing interest in Prince would likely ignore HnR in this case. Does anyone know whether and how offline listening from Tidal counts toward the streaming portion of the album's "sales"? I downloaded the album on Tidal for offline listening and never once streamed it per se. Does Tidal count how many times I listened to my offline download and then factor that into streaming counts? Or does it count one offline download as one sale? If offline downloads aren't counted or nobody knows how they're counted, this is really apples to oranges.

i am not sure, but i think i counts everytime you hear the record...did that myself too...

And it counts towards the album sales...because the sales in the US are just 8000 something and with streaming it is 10 000 plus...

I posted earlier that 1500 streams equates to one "sale".

My point is rather, why do you take it personally? Its not like it affects you personally right? But you write as if you're emotionally invested in his wellbeing. I enjoy Linus's chart threads quite a bit because for him the data is data, he's not treating it as though he's watching his own stock investments go up and down.

It's not personal to me. If I say HitnRun had low sales it's because the data and numbers show the sales are low. I research the data, get the sources and post it... Yet whenever I try to talk about sales people like you are the one's who take it personally, don't get it...

You say you don't take it personally but your continual threads lamenting, crying and whining about sales and chart performance says otherwise no?

Change it one more time..

My bad. I've read so many hoxes on here that I've become suspicious by nature.

However I still have no idea on what grounds you declare Tidal will lose money. Tidal cannot calculate the revenue generated by one single album given that people subscribe for a global service. There certainly was a boost in subscribtions with Prince fans but whether people who got a membership just to hear HnR in advance and a few exclusive Prince tunes will renew or not depends on their satisfaction with the service as a whole, unless maybe Prince keeps addinge xclusive tracks on a very regular basis, which we all now he's unable of doing because of his short attention span, unless maybe he's contractually obliged to. And I'm pretty certain it was agreed from the beginning that Tidal would only get an exclusive as in "before proper release". Prince said I believe that it took "only" 3 months for him to reach an agreement with Tidal, so that would mean there was in fact a lots of lawyers talk around the technicalities of the contract.

The fact that Prince delivered a "hot turd" of an album is irrelevant, since you have no idea whether Tidal executives feel that way about it or not (unless one declared it was a "hot turd" in an interview, that is).

I don't see the point in assuming things like that. It's not very constructive in a debate.

Prince Scores 25th Top 10 on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart With 'HITnRUN: Phase One'

.

Prince earns his 25th top 10 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with the debut of his latest studio album HitnRun: Phase One at No. 8 on the Oct. 3-dated chart. It sold 6,000 copies in the week ending Sept. 17, according to Nielsen Music. The entrance comes 36 years after he first landed a top 10 rank, when his self-titled album reached No. 3.

Among all acts on the 50-year-old chart, the only artists with more top 10 sets areAretha Franklin, the Temptations (both with 32) and James Brown (28).

Hitsdailydouble numbers are in and for week two, HNR sold 6467, 26% drop from last week. Don't know how this will equate with Billboard. A release and promotion of a single would be helpful.

25 38 PRINCE
HITNRUN PHASE ONE
NPG 6,467 -26%

This is good. It means the album sold around the same on its second week.

The album is still Top 40 on Amazon. So it will probably be Top 50 for a 3rd week thanks to physical sales.

A mainstream streaming independent release... Still the numbers speak for itself, which are very low... 22,467 world wide sales as of now.
