Xpectation is interesting - it was only released as MP3 files if I remember right. Hi-fi on Tidal would be the best quality ever released for that album.

Oh man, great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

***

I've been digging the HI-FI versions of Prince albums on Tidal. I generally listen to music on my iPhone, and the sound quality of mp3 downloads from my CDs pale in comparison!

Yeah. And this would be the case for Chocolate Invasion, Slaughterhouse and C-Note too...

Yeah, they are all available to stream now.

C-Note sounds amazing in Tidal Hifi. Especially Empty Room.

It sounds crystal clear compared to any previously available versions.

Why would he give them mp3's when he has the masters?

Weird that they still can't sort out a proper album version of 1999.

I think that's correct if you're playing in browser, I downloaded the app for my Mac, i think there's a windows download too.

Holy shit.... The War is on tidal! One of my all time favourite tracks of any artist.

Have to say, aside from the track 'June', HitnRun is a terrible album. But the hard-to-find back catalogue stuff on Tidal is great.

Was that cover photo for The Truth ever released before?

If this pans out I proabably will pay for Tidal. Seems like he's excited by this new method of getting his music out there at the moment. Will it last past the end of the week though?

If Tidal provides metrics (playcount stats), it would be interesting to see how many listens the NPGMC tracks get vs. the new album/stare/indifference. I wonder if Prince would make those NPGMC tracks available for HD download directly to fans?

The most remarkable thing about all this is that for the first time ever we have official cover art for C-Note, The Truth, Xpectation, TCI and TS! Note how C-Note is, in fact, credited solely to "The New Power Generation" on the cover: seems it is, in fact, the 4th NPG album (5th if u count The War).

.

Does anyone know why Cream is credited "Cream (W/O rap monologue)" everywhere? eek

.

Notably on Prince, Still Waiting is still from the CD, the original LP version hasn't been restored.

.

Finally i find it a bit silly not to include Mpslsound and Lotusflow3r as 2 separate albums, when they were originally clearly considered as such.

Really, The War's up there? Sweet. The fact that Prince actually bothered to make that little oddity available digitally (it was cassette only originally, is that right?) gives me slightly more hope that there might be more rare old stuff coming up in the future. Obviously the Tidal situation is far from ideal for those of us who like to own our music, but a glimmer of hope in amongst all the bad news about the apparent mediocrity of the new album (I haven't listened yet.)

Okay, I'm still resisting Tidal, but you people are making it harder (I know I'm not going to keep paying for it, especially not the higher tier, so I don't want to sign up even for the initial). But are all of these now in HD quality? Do they sound better? Really? Ah man.

Well. I just really can't justify the extended commitment, but this is... well, it's more than I expected, honestly. I didn't count on him putting those albums up, at all.

But why not just sell them to me (and all the rest of you, of course. I'm not asking for an exclusive)? I can justify a one time expense (for better quality), but I can't justify paying for them over and over again, every month, just to continue having access.

Okay, return to the fun.

I dunno if they sound better but maybe I'm just not listening on good enough gear. You kow you can sign up and cancel straight away, so you still get the month but don't have to worry about forgetting to cance.

So Prince could have released this shit digitally a long time ago and didn't? Hmm.

He wanted his masters back didn't he? I think he wasn't doing anythinc because WB would have been making bank and had no reason to give them back. If he does his best to kill everything off they aren't going to make any noney so there's no reason to hold on to them. Maybe.

None of the newly available stuff was released on WB - why would they have made any money?

But isn't most of this stuff what he owned. Because it was after he left WB?
